Right … it’s officially official.

I’ve lost weight!

As long term readers will know, I’m overweight: and on a weight management programme that’s designed to help me lose weight.

I was at my most recent meeting, yesterday, in fact.

Usually, I’d join the Warm space hub, next door to the weigh-in room: but it was a bit noisy, yesterday!

At any rate: and after the wait?

I had myself checked by the volunteers who run the service: to find I’d gone from 100·1 kilos, last week, to 98·5, this week.

A loss of some 1·6 kilos, in other words.

Considering I’d done up, last week?

And had a cheeky fish supper, on Friday?

I was pleasantly surprised … !

It’s also official: that I’ve had a delivery from Amazon.

One that’s turned up when they said it would.

Which is nice.

Part of the delivery?

Is a bluray copy of The War Between the Land and the Sea, being copied as we speak, some leather cord for my waistcoat, and a leather cutting blade for the cord.

The blade?

Was advertised as a skiving knife, I should add.

I’ve not heard the word, ‘skiving’, for a long time: and it’s the first time I’ve heard it in that contest.

The last time I heard it?

It was getting used very differently!

Oh, just in case you’ve seen today’s introduction video, at the top of this post?

I made it with the rentable version of Final Cut Pro, Apple’s pro-level video editor.

It’s not as good as the ones I’ve made with DaVinci Resolve, or iMovie.

But, in my defence?

I’ve a lot of experience with iMovie: and, despite its steeper learning curve, plenty with DaVinci.

At the moment?

And right now?

I have some learning to do: especially about Final Cut’s transitions, and colour-correction.

As a last thought, before moving on … ?

Yes: I have seen another episode of Stranger Things: episode three, “The Turnbow Trap”.

And, yes: I’ve finished reviewing it.

It’s officially the case … that I’m getting a certain amount of interest.

I’ve just reset my sister’s laptop: and have listed it on Facebook, this morning.

I’ve had about three people asking.

About it, already: including one who seems VERY interested!

We’ll have to see how that goes.

Which means … I’m possibly going to be doing stuff!

One bit of stuff?

Is prepping up my sister, Ruth’s, laptop: so it can be sold on.

Selling it could be tricky: more people are using their phones and tablets.

We’ll have to see what happens.

Yes: I went shopping, yesterday.

And yes … 

There’s always something I forget!

Tea bags and sugar.

Saying that … ?

I’ve got enough for now.

But given I’ve learnt how to use the shopping list app on the relevant shop’s App?

Yes: I’m kicking myself!

You know … I’ve a question in today’s set: about Russia’s invasion of somewhere, a year ago, today.

It should be obvious where I’m talking about: but I don’t want to give you too many clues!

At any rate?   I sympathies are with the invaded small nation.

And, try as I might … ?

I’m thinking I should try and find a copy of the old 2000AD strip, Invasion: about a Volgan — ha! — invasion of Britain.

Thinking of that story is inevitable, given the day.

At any rate … ?

I can remember that many I knew were showing support for the country: by adding the now familiar blue and yellow flag to their profiles.

Something I’ve personally not done: and don’t see myself doing.

Why?   Outside of thinking it’s virtue signalling, and groupthink*?

I don’t think it serves any useful purpose.

It’s not sending bullets, tanks or planes to the invaded country’s army, after all.

Hmmm … 

I’ve got to admit: I’m taken mildly by surprise.

Russia’s invaded the Donbas region of the Ukraine.

Which took me by surprise.

I couldn’t see Vladimir Putin ordering something so … extreme.

Apparently?   Whilst Mr Putin’s said it’s a ‘special military action,’ in the area, explosions have been heard in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

Indeed, BBC reporter, Nick Robinson, is in Kyiv: and heard jets go over.

I note the British government has ordered sanctions: ones criticised by the official Opposite as being too little to late.

I’m wondering if the Government — in line with others — will authorise military action.

I hope not … 

It could — given Mr Putin’s warned the West that that would not be a good idea — would not be … sensible.

It’s official: when I recorded that video, there was birdsong.

Not that the microphone on my iMac could pick it up.

But there was birdsong.

There still is birdsong: I can hear it, right now, once the noise of passing cars dies down.

It’s nice to wake up to a dawn chorus …

It’s definite: I’m rushed!

I’ve officially got an appointment … at the Job Centre, at 9:30.

Which would be lovely … if it was still around the corner, from my place!

It’s not: it’s now in Brentwood’s Town hall.

Yes: I know I need the exercise … but even so …

Just as a quick point … ?

Remember I’ve been trying to turn a cheap USB memory stick into a Ubuntu installer?

And been having issues doing so?

A quick Googling told me that balenaEtcher, the app that’s supposed to make making these things easy … is having issues under macOS Catalina.

Wouldn’t you know it.

At ANY rate … ?

I’ve finally managed to borrow my sister’s PC, last night: installing the Windows version of balenaEtcher, and converting the stick into the installer.

Then getting into the BIOS system, so I could re-arrange the boot order.

And then double checking it, to see if it worked.

I think we can say it did.

Roll on my birthday …

Which … ?   Well it usually means I head for my family’s place for Sunday dinner.

Have you ever heard of the Crucible Curse?

In case you’re not a Snooker fan?

The Curse takes its name from the venue: the tournament’s been held there since 1977.

It refers to the fact that no first time winner of Snooker’s World Championship has won the title the year afterwards.

And it’s generally held to be something psychological: attributed to weight of expectation after winning the biggest title in the game, tied to a lack of experience of winning the game’s biggest title.

The reason I mention it?

Is because I’m not a football fan.

But was shocked to hear the Leicester City FC have sacked manager, Claudio Ranieri: the man who’d steered them to winning the Premiership, last year, after many years out of the game’s top tier.

Yes, I know the team’s in the relegation zone.   Yes, I know there’s talk he’d lost the dressing room.

But I can’t help but think the team — manager and players — been suffering with football’s equivalent of the Crucible Curse.

For the owners to ignore the possibility?

Represents short-termism at its worst.

And bloody stupid.

The Daily Teaser — 24-2-2016

Right … that’s that done … 

I mentioned, yesterday, that I’d managed to buy myself a cheap second hand hard drive: which didn’t work!

Which surprised me: CeX normally check these things!

Still … despite having lost the recent?  My local branch was decent enough to give me a refund: AND give me a good price on a replacement.

Which is good: it means I’ve got manoeuvring room: and extra transport.

All good …
