Hmmm … 

I’ve had some bad news.

Well … I … and every other Dr Who fan on the planet!

Yes: in a recent press release, the BBC have announced that the planned, and previously announced, 2026 Dr Who Christmas Special has been cancelled.

And have also told us Russell T. Davies has stepped down as show runner, and Bad Wolf has stepped away from its production role.

The BBC has also told us that they’re looking for new production partners: and have started the search by putting things out for ‘competitive tender’.

But not told us when to expect any news.

Russell T. Davies has also told us that — contrary to earlier statements he’s given — he’s written no script.

I’m … 

I’m disappointed: as is every other fan on the planet.

But I can live with that: after all, I’ve survived the last cancellation!

I’m disappointed, yes.

But more upset that I, and other fans, have been lied to to.

It’s the dishonesty that hurts.

In other news … ?

I — like others — have had my issues with macOS Tahoe, the current version of macOS.

From what I and others, can see, this overheating seems to be triggered by using Pages with other apps, and is caused by processes called corespotlightd and spotlightknowledge.updater hogging resources.

Why, I don’t know.

I had managed to correct it by emptying specific folders — in ~/Library/Metadata/CoreSpotlight/ — but have also posted to Apple’s Community pages, to give myself a reminder on how to do this.

Hopefully, that will help.

I am also aware that Apple’s held its annual Worldwide Developers Conference.

And announced in a recent live stream that they will be making adjustments to Spotlight in macOS 27 Golden Gate, the upcoming version of the operating system.

Indeed, they say so in this video: at the ~13·26 mark.

There’s a couple of points.

One?

I hope that works.

Two?

I wish Apple would issue that sooner: this is getting ridiculous!

Right … it’s now Wednesday!

And the fact Wednesdays used to be called Hump Day on Twitter?

Is possibly irrelevant … !

The fact today’s themed question set is about the film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, probably is.

I can still remember seeing for the first time: on an extremely dodgy VHS that fell off the back of a van.

I may just have to rewatch it, at some point.

The quality of that copy definitely left me wondering what all the fuss was about …

The US president’s actions in sending in the Marines to LA, and authorising the use of rubber bullets leaving me with an earworm … I’m also aware there’s trouble at the proverbial mill.

Or, at least, trouble in Northern Ireland.

There’s riots happening in Ballymena: baton rounds are being fired at rioters using fireworks, cobbles and petrol bombs*.

After what we’re told is an alleged sexual assault.

Growing up in the 1970s and ’80s?

This sort of thing always reminds me of the Troubles.

Did you ever see a show called The Prisoner: an 1960s series about a spy who resigns his high security job, only to find himself trapped in a mysterious village from which there’s no escape … ?

To this day, it’s still worth watching, I think.

It turns out Inverlair Lodge, one of the places that inspired the series, is now up for sale.

Has anyone got £1, 300, 000 … ?

Is that we’re celebrating with a finally meal, tonight: at a newly opened Japanese restaurant in Brentwood High Street.

That’s going to be an experience.

I’ve never had Japanese food in my life: and wouldn’t know how to use chopsticks if you paid me!

Yes: it was the start of Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference, yesterday: the Conference where Apple announces a whole range of new stuff!

OK: Apple’s new AI features — branded under the name Apple Intelligence — sound like they could be either useful: or a nightmare.

But hopefully won’t take up much space*.

About the only thing that caught my eye as being handy?

Were the new wind tiling features.

As someone with just one monitor?

That strikes me as useful!

I have a weird class of dreams, sometimes.

Or possibly a dreamy class of weirdness … 

At any rate, I dream: we all do.

And, like most of us, don’t necessarily remember the in the morning.

Occasionally, I do.

I did, last night.

I dreamt I was trying to hold my front door shut, against someone trying to get into my flat: whilst yelling “Get out, get out, get out!”

Only to wake up at one-thirty in the morning, yelling “Get out, get out, get out!”, whilst rattling the bedstead.

I’m tempted to say I have no idea what’s going on.

I’m also thinking that the last dream I remember having — someone who looked vaguely like Mitch Pileggi was trying to climb into my back window — was about my flat getting invaded.

I think the rough sleeper I had back in 2020?

Has left a few mental scars.

I now have a copy of the New Hart’s Rules for writers.

It’s a relatively hefty guide to the mechanics of writing: lay-out, spring, punctuation.

How much use I’ll make of it, or English Grammar for Dummies, I don’t know.

But at least I have copies I can refer to.

I think I can say I had good reason.

I’d no movies to watch: nothing was grabbing me on iTunes, and frankly?

Frankly, Black Panther has spent a long time as a ‘Pre-order’ only movie.

Which I can’t help but feel has given Pirate Bay users a field day!

At any rate, I’ve actually managed to catch the opening three episodes of American Horror Story, sixth series, Roanoke, last night.

It’s possibly the best series, yet.

I certainly know this.

It also looks like it’s going to be giving Angela Bassett a run for the money.

Well, it’s official … 

We have to wear hairnets at work!

I can’t complain, there.

Really.

Health and Safety’s an important thing: as those of us on the front desk are food handling, at SOME point, we have to wear them.

Especially if our hair’s beyond a certain length.

But … ?

Well, yesterday was payday: which was good.

Hairnets, as far as I’m concerned?   Aren’t bad.

But I had a haircut.

Hairnet’s aren’t bad … 

But don’t half itch … !
