Did I mention Mikey the Rabbit … ?

Mikey was my nephew, Jude’s, pet rabbit: and sadly died on Saturday night/early Sunday morning.

Jude is 14, and owned Mikey for some eleven years.

Like any one that age, utterly heartbroken.

I’m saddened, myself: it’s amazing how close we can get to pets, even at one remove.

Hopefully, though … ?

Jude will recover from this.

But … ?

Mikey will be much missed.

I’ve a job interview — via Zoom — this afternoon.

And a doctor’s appointment — by phone — this morning.

I’m not sure what I’m more nervous about: the appointment, the interview … or using Zoom for the first time!

It’s a Saturday: obviously.

Anyone looking at the calendar would be able to tell you that.

It’s also 14th April.

Again, the calendar would be helpful, there.

There’s also … been Allied airstrikes against selected targets in Syria.

Complete with an announcement from President Trump.

I’m …

Not sure I approve.

The three governments involved have kept things to an — apparent — minimum: by limiting strikes to alleged chemical weapons sites.

And?

Personally?

I don’t like the fact we’ve done this: just on general principles.

Nor do I like the fact we’ve done this with no apparent mandate from the United Nations.

And, while I can understand — indeed, approve of — the UK’s expelling Russian diplomats, post Salisbury, I can’t approve the fact that a British government is acting — on this — under US government instructions.

What’s more?   I think the President’s language — at least in the video announcement, above — to be very emotive.

Too emotive for this situation.

However?

What’s done is done …

I, personally?   Can only hope airstrikes don’t lead to further involvement.

Dr Who Xmas Special 2017: Twice upon A Time — Thanking Mr Moffat

25th December, 2017.

You know … 

You can — sort of — guess I need to be up early, for work, tomorrow.

I’m writing this, for heaven’s sake: rather than doing something more Christmas.

But, to be fair?

I have spent a lot of time with my family, today: with lots of presents given and received.

Of and at least one smashed plate, one dropped glass, and a lot of frayed tempers!

But that’s Christmas for you.

Happy … with grotty bits …

The extraneous bits of Christmas?

Well, I think I can say the gifts I’d managed to get my family went down well.

And one or two gifts I got given caught my eye.

There’s an iTunes card in there: from Ruth and Jude.

An Amazon Gift card from my mother.

And a copy of the newly remastered Tom Baker era Shada: famously never finished because of a strike.

All gratefully received, I should add.

Dr Who — Series 10: Episode 12 — The Doctor Falls

Yep … 

It’s a Sunday, again.

It’s a Sunday, and, to distract myself?

I’ve managed to play a game of backgammon on my tablet.

Whilst playing three games of a Scrabble clone via Facebook Messenger, and add audio to the video versions of some Teasers for later this month, AND, after recoding this week’s episode of Dr Who, editing the resulting bits together.

All that?

And seriously wanting cough mixture!

Is that I’m a busy little bee.

Or, at least, trying to multi task.

Rather distractedly, as it goes.

If you can imagine an overweight, distracted bee, that doesn’t have a clue about pollen?

Yep … 

That’ll be me … 

And, yes: I’ve no clue about pollen.   But DO have a clue about this twelfth episode of season ten of new Dr Who.

The Doctor Falls, effectively the middle episode of a three parter?

Has left me waiting for Christmas.

It’s late …

At least, it’s late … for an ageing blogger with poor health, worse dental hygiene, and a tendency to fart.

And who’s got back home from work to a Marmite sandwich, and a bag of crisps.

You’d think that maybe heading for bed would be a sensible idea, wouldn’t you?

You might think so.

I couldn’t possibly comment.

Actually?

Yes, I could.

It would make sense: if I wasn’t a Dr Who fan who missed this weeks episode when it was originally broadcast, last night.

From where I’m sitting?

I’ve just seen World Enough and Time.

And?

I’m thinking it’s an absolutely delicious nightmare of an episode.

Did I ever tell you I have windows?

No, I’m not doing the dirty, and suddenly bough a Windows based PC: good gods, no!

Nope, Mac fan still, thank you … !

No … I meant windows in my flat.

Some of which?   Are south facing.   They catch the sun, in other words.

And on one of the hottest days of the year, so far?

You can bet I’m glad I opened them.

Frankly?

Watching The Eaters of Light, this weeks episode of Dr Who, with them shut?

Would’ve meant getting just a little bit … you know … sweaty … !

Oh, now don’t you just HATE getting old?

I do.

If there’s money involved.

I managed to get to Brentwood High Street today: to a cash machine.

• Shoved my card in the thing.
• Check my balance.
• Requested a tenner.
• Took my card out.
• Walked away from the machine …

Having forgotten to take the money, when I took my card.

By the time I got back to the cash machine?   (A short fat guy running down the High Street was possibly quite a site.)

The tenner had — understandably — gone for a burton.

I’d kick myself.

Except I’d very probably miss.

Dr Who — Series 10: Episode 8 — The Lie of the Land

You’ve possibly realised — by now — that I’m a fan of a few things.

In amongst the various bits and bobs?

I’ve been happily glued to Dr Who for quite some time.

And religious watched its spin-off, Torchwood, as well.

I missed out on The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Frankly, it wasn’t my time slot: even though I’m perfectly aware it had the late great Elizabeth Sladen played A central role in the series.

I also know I thoroughly enjoyed the latest spin-off, Class.

Worryingly?

Patrick Ness, the show’s writer and showrunner, has issued this statement: announcing he won’t be helming any more episodes, and that Aunty Beeb was unlikely to be making a second series.

If that is the case, that Class is to go the way of The Fades?

Then that seems a terrible waste of an opportunity.

I may as well: I’ve been doing that for quite some time.

It’s this.

Do you watch Dr Who, at all?

I have: for much of my life.

Ever since I was a child, remembering the vague nightmares the Jon Pertwee Inferno gave me.

Which possibly explains a lot … !

At ANY rate?

“Do you watch Dr Who?” is rather rhetorical.

If you do … ?   You’ve possibly seen this weeks episode, Extremis.   Or, at least, have it lined up on iPlayer.

If you haven’t?

You’ve missed possibly the weakest episode of the series thus far.

But in saying that?   It’s possibly a lot stronger than quite a lot of what’s gone before it …

Dr Who — Series 10: Episode 5 — Oxygen

I’ve seen something special, tonight.

Hmm … 

I’m just staring at that initial opening.

And thinking it seems just a little bit gushy.

Unlike the TV show I’ve just watched.

I think I’ve should explain myself, shouldn’t I … ?

I’m old enough to like sitting down with a TV show: rather that — say — play hard-core computer games.

Although I’m ALSO of an age to appreciate casual games like Tetris and Space Invaders, but let’s not go there, shall we?

At ANY rate?

My given choice of entertainment is a film, or a TV show.

Or possibly a radio station.

I’m happily listening to an online station called LeCandyLab which is playing a lot of Technohouse that I find great to blog to.

The reason I’m writing?

The reason I’m writing, is simply this.

I’ve JUST seen Oxygen: the Jamie Mathiesen penned, fifth episode of series ten of Doctor Who.

I think I’ve seen something both watchable … 

And terrifying …

You’ve worked out I’m a fan of Dr Who.

At least you have, if you’ve been following me for a while.

You’ll possibly have guessed I’ve been watching, and enjoying, the rebooted version of the series ever since it started, back in the day.

Following the twists and turns of a series for a decade or so.

Of course, working Saturday nights has its downsides.

It means I get to watch my favourite show …

On Sunday nights.

Frankly?

I’ve seen possibly Peter Capaldi’s best episode.

It has to be said … I am felling tired … !

But there you go. 

That’s what getting up at six in the morning does for … you …

I work, on weekends: as I’m sure you’ve realised.

I usually finish at ten, on Saturday night, and start at eleven, on a Sunday.

And, given I work in Chelmsford?

Means I spend more time awake than, on Saturday night, than I do asleep.

And get to value the few nights I get to go to bed, early.

Equally, usually?

That’s Thursday and Sundays.

Except, of course?

Sundays, at the moment … ?

Well, as I’m working, on a Saturday, when the show I’ve been following for a lifetime is on?

Means watching Doctor Who …

Doctor Who — Series 10: Episode 1 — The Pilot

You know, I’ve … … 

No, no, no, no … !

I was going to give you my usual line: my “I’ll confess to being a Doctor Who fan,” line I trot out … 

Any time I’m going to tell you something about the show.

I can tell you there’s talk.

Several newspapers have already announced that Death in Paradise actor, Kris Marshall, has been cast as the 13th Doctor.

I’m blowed if I could tell you.

Bookies notoriously stopped taking bets on his being named in the role, some time ago.

The only other person that’s happened to?

Is the current star of the show, Peter Capaldi, way back when.

I couldn’t tell you one way or the other.

Although I think Marshall would be a good choice.

Personally?

I still feel the time is right to maybe break the mould: and maybe cast a woman.

I DO know the Sun’s headline on the story?   Say Marshall will appear as the character in the last episode of this season: something I felt was going to happen the minute I saw those Cybermen.

Those ones?   From Tenth Planet?

Yeah, them!

Say no more!

A day, when — after a heard day’s work, a quick family meal, and a lot of chocolate — I finally got to sit down with the latest episode of my favourite TV show.

Yes, I’ve said it before: and, yes, I’ll say it again.

My favourite TV show.

And frankly?

The Pilot is rather impressive.

Well, if you haven’t heard, by now?

You will soon.

Actor, Peter Capaldi has announced he is to stand down from the role of Doctor Who: at the end of the 2017 Christmas special.

Personally?

As sad as I may feel about it — Capaldi’s done fantastically well in the role — I can’t say that I’m surprised.

After all, it wasn’t that long ago that Chris Chibnall was announced as Stephen Moffat’s replacement.

Again, at about the same sort of time.

The trailer for series ten?

Also suggested it: at least to me.   After all, it focuses on a new companion having tons of questions and facing a whole new world of adventure.

And … ?

Well, frankly, none of the modern doctors have stayed in the role for more than about three years.

Sad, yes.

Surprising, no.

Which, of course, leads one to ask … 

Who on Earth will be the next Doctor.

Personally?   I would love to see someone black in the role.   Or a woman, come to think of it.

I think Patterson Joseph would be good.

So would David Bowie, having played aliens: but given his death, last year … 

No, Tilda Swinton!

Tilda Swinton would be IDEAL: and, having played the title role in Orlando, could easily handle a gender hopping Timelord.

It won’t be, though.

The BBC will play it safe.

Put you money on someone white, male … 

And about the six foot mark.
