Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd January 2026. (Six Questions)

23rd January, 2026.

It’s official: I get paid, today: so … ?

That means I can afford a couple of things on Amazon.

Including a new air fryer.

The old one’s getting a bit … … well … it needs a decent burial, let’s put it that way.

But the one thing I have learnt … ?

Is that it’s very good at home made chips, and roast potatoes.

Remind me to thank my mother: she got me my original model, a few years ago …

~≈🍳≈~

Apparently?

There’s a new, charity, album out: called Help(2), that’s raising money for War Child.

I don’t know that there’s a song on there that’s grabbing me.

And I’ve only heard of three of the acts: Depeche Mode, Wet Leg and Pulp.

So nothing I’m buying.

But … ?

The original album, 1995’s Help, has a cover of Bobbie Gentry’s “Ode to Billy Joe”: by the late Sinéad O’Connor.

It’s a superb song … and the late Ms O’Connor did one hell of a version … !

~≈🌁≈~

Just as a last thought … ?

I caught a film called Sinners, a while back.

It’s slow: but very good.

It’s ALSO broken an Oscar record: and earned itself sixteen Oscar nominations.

It’s a horror film: they never win more than the craft awards.

But … ?

I can only hope it at least backs the Best Music gong.

The music is superb … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd January 2025.

23rd January, 2025.

Right … I had the occupational therapist teams, in yesterday.

Measuring up for cupboards, wouldn’t you know?

I’m feeling pleased about it.

As the pair have agreed that, yes, my cupboards should be lowered.

Now … ?

Now all we need to do is persuade my landlord it’s wosname thing something they should do.

Here’s hoping!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd January 2024.

23rd January, 2024.

Yay!

It’s Tuesday!

Which, basically means it’s Tuesday!

Oh … and pay day, as well.

That’s a good thing.

Getting the bills paid, and putting food in the fridge … ?

Is generally a good idea.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-1-2023 — Rorke’s Drift.

23rd January, 2023: Rorke’s Drift.

It’s official: it’s Monday.

And payday.

Frankly?

I’m fully expecting my gas and electricity meters chew up a lot of cash!

~≈Ç≈~

Talking of which … ?

The BBC tells us that Ofgem — Britain’s entry regulator — is considering investigating energy companies habit of forcing people onto prepayment meters.

And — the important point for me — is that the regulator is talking about encouraging more social tariffs.

I hope that can be done.

Cheaper fuel would be VERY helpful.

~≈Ç≈~

Ha!

I’ve JUST talked to my energy supplier, SSE: to see if I could get a cheaper tariff for my Pay-as-you-go meter.

Apparently?

I’m on the cheapest available tariff.

Unlike BT, they don’t have a current social tariff.

That’s … not helpful!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd January, 2022.

23rd January, 2022.

Right … I am actually feeling … well … non-tired.

Which is surprising.

I had something of a late night: doing the review of the last episode of The Evil of the Daleks.

It’s fantastic stuff, I think.

About my only complaint with the box set … ?

Is that there’s no Behind the Sofa watch along.

Granted those are only usually a feature on the blu-ray box sets of later seasons.

But I think that could have come in handy for The Evil of the Daleks.

Heigh ho!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd January, 2021.

23rd January, 2021.

Right … I’m officially going to be watching what’s left of my money: given I got paid, yesterday.

I’ve got the bills paid … and a couple of bits and bobs from Amazon.

Marmite, toenail clippers … and, in the wake of the aerial repairman’s statements, an extra aerial cable.

We’ll have to see what happens, there.

~≈†≈~

You’ve probably worked out I follow the news: and been following stories about laptops for schools.

Or, at least, the stories about underprivileged kids who can’t get online, for online lessons.

Half the problem?   Are getting online in the first place.

There’s moves, I’m told, to make sure educational resources — BBC Bitesize and Oak Academy seem to be the main ones under discussion — will not count towards data limits.

That’s going to help.

What doesn’t … ?

Is this piece on the BBC’s News Website.

It seems a number of laptops sent to schools by the government have malware on them: a worm known as Gamarue.I*.

And tells us “Ideally users should reboot into safe mode and run a full scan with an anti-virus product.”

But also: “… it is advisable to seek professional assistance in order to ensure it has been correctly removed.

I’m curious, though.

Why whoever’s organising this, at a government level, didn’t think to check the machines, before handing them out.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23rd January, 2020.

23rd January, 2020.

OK … I was expecting the electrician out, yesterday.

And was told — when I phoned the office — he’d be with me, today: between eight and five.

Five o’clock would’ve been the point where I’d complain.

Except, of course, the man’s right here: fiddly around with a thermostat and a screwdriver.

One of these …

Screwdriver

Rather than one of these …

Screwdriver

Hopefully … ?

He’ll be quick: where the later’s involved or not^ …

~≈¥≈~

On a sad note … ?

Yesterday saw the announcement of the death of Monty Python star, Terry Jones.

The man who directed Monty Python’s Holy Grail … ?

Gave the world much: and will be much missed.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-1-2019: Django Unchained.

23rd January, 2019.

Yes: we officially have no snow, today.

At least here in Brentwood.

Frankly?

Given the projected temperature, today?

I’m actually grateful.

I get paid, today, so I’m off shopping.

Frankly?

I’m glad it’s not snowing …

~≈§≈~

Either way … ?

Either way, I have to confess to feeling a little tired.

It’s my own damn fault: managing to stay up late, watching the wrong movie.

I got The Living Daylights mixed up with License to Kill.

It’s still a fun little action-adventure film, with a Bond who looks entirely the part.

Well … it does show its age, in some respects.

What grabbed my attention was the scene where Bond … slaps Moneypenny’s rear.

You couldn’t do THAT, today … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 23-1-2018: The Royal Exchange

Oooohhhhh, but a cuppa’s a good thing, first thing in the morning … !

Yes, I know me, drinking some tea, possibly isn’t something you want to see, first thing in the morning.

But … ?

Well, I’m blowed if I know what’s happening.

But having a clip of video seems — seems — to have a positive effect on the amount of visitors.

Thanking you if you’re reading as a result!

~≈§≈~

One other thing … ?

I’ve got the radio on, at the mo.

And … ?   Radio Four’s news bulletin has just announced that — despite putting its prices up, at the tail end of last year —Netflix has managed to increase its subscribers.

Good for them.

Frankly?

I think it’s show us the way technology has changed our world.

 Frankly?

Original, award winning, content?   Few, if any adverts?

Streaming is the new aerial, I think.

The fact it’s let me watch a new episode* of Star Trek, broadcast purely online?   When, twenty years ago, it would’ve had to go via a regular channel?

Could not have been broadcast without, in fact?

Possibly makes my point.

The Daily Teaser — 23-2-2016

Hmmm … that’s odd …

I managed to pick up an internal hard-drive, yesterday: just an 80 gigabyte one I could use as transport, and working space, connected through a docking station.

Which promptly didn’t show up, when I got it home and connected it!

I THINK I’ve still got the receipt.   At any rate, I’m a regular at the shop I bought it from: so I don’t think taking it back, today, will be an issue.

But boy …

Don’t you just love buying second hand … !
