It’s officially official: fish, chips, chicken nuggets and onion rings were had, last night.

Yep: my nephew was over.

And managed to make a video!

You’ll possibly realise that long time regular, Trevor, hasn’t been stunningly well.

And is now back in hospital.

Apparently, he’s gone down with another infection!

Here’s hoping he recovers, soon.

There’s going to be a performance of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” at the Proms, tonight*.

So, of course, the damn thing’s been earworming its way through my head, all morning.

Or, at least, the “Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango?” line has.

I don’t mind: not as such.

But … ?

I’m blowed if I know how to fandango … !

It’s vaguely amazing to me that Ferdinand Marcos Jr — who I’ve quoted, today — is also known as Bong Bong.

Why?

I don’t know.

But it must be true: it’s on Wikipedia …

I’ve got to admit, I’m rather proud of my nephew, Jude.

He was over, last night: making a video, so you know.

When I went to get dinner, he managed to spill a glass of water I keep on my table: but cleaned it up after himself.

He both let me know — over WhatsApp — and apologised.

He’s a good kid.

I’ve caught the news, earlier: floating around the BBC’s news website, as I do.

And couldn’t help but notice that a serious assault on Ingrave Road has now turned into murder: after the assaulted party died in hospital.

I’m shocked: as I recognised the place the policeman’s posted outside.

It’s what used to be Brentwood Maternity Hospital, and is a mixed block of bedsits and one-bedroom flats called Four Oaks.

I’m shocked … because I used to live there!

OK, the place always had a few dodgy residents.

But finding out a murder’s been committed, there, was shocking*!

Right … it’s Wednesday.

And you’re possibly aware I’m trying to claim Personal Independence Payment: or PIP, as it’s also known.

I’ve had what’s called the MRN, the Mandatory Reconsideration Notice.   Which has also been refused.

So I’m trying to lodge an appeal with the court service.

I couldn’t get through on the website, yesterday: as it kept telling me the site was “experience difficulties”.

Indeed, using that link give the same answer, today.

However?

I DID manage to get through, yesterday — once! — using my spare computer.

And the initial stages seem to be showing up.

However?

I think phoning the courts, to make sure of this, could be wise.

It has to be said: I’m off to Chelmsford, to meet my Restart Case worker.

Who I’ve met a few more times than my Job Centre worker, but there you go.

At any rate?   I’m having something of an extended stay.

As they’ve also signed me up for what they call a Job Club.

By the sound of it?

That’s going to be sixty minutes worth of using their computers to look things up on Indeed: then emailing myself any results.

Yes: my nephew, Jude, was over last night.

For a good chat, as much as to make a video.

He’s finding his new school tough, as he doesn’t know many of his new class mates: so a natter with his uncle — and making a video — helped out.

I’ve got an official meeting with the Job Centre.

Especially as I’ve not got the fare to Basildon.

At ANY rate?   It’s with my regular case worker: as she’s now back from leave.

Which is nice: I finally get to see what she looks like!

I have to admit, though: I’ve got this bad habit — following the silly nicknames given to the Spice Girls — of giving various band members as a silly nicknames.

I’ve been thinking of the Bangles as Happy Bangle, Sad Bangle, Pouty Bangle and Wiggly Bangle for years, for example.

Much as I’d love to go out, I really don’t have the cash.

Not that I’m that worried, either way.

I’m happy to stay in.

Going up Warley Hill — in either direction — really doesn’t appeal!

At least, after going into town — once — to go shopping, and then a second time for a meeting.

Saying that, we’ve new trainees at work.

I’ve mixed feelings.

As — inevitably — my hours will suffer.

On the other hand … ?

I’m buddying at least one new trainee: who’s nice enough, and seems competent.

And the simple fact I’m helping train a new member of staff?

Is flattering.

Oh, well … 

We’ll have to see.

Oh, now, that’s a pain … !

Or, at least could’ve been more of a pain … or less … 

You’re wondering what I’m on about, aren’t you?

Frankly?

My router went down, last night: flashing up the by-now-familiar sequence of purple, orange and green flashing lights.

With a certain amount of resigned annoyance?   That was something the got me phoning my Internet Service Provider, BT, to see what was going on.

The router … ?

Is now up and running, again, after a reset.

But, apparently?

There’s some sort of issue with the cabinet that distributes the signal to local homes: which, at least, they’ve told me will get seen to, by tomorrow.

Wouldn’t you know it.

In OTHER news … ?

I note that Apple have released their new iPhone X: with the X, much like the X in OS X, standing for 10.

Frankly?   It looks rather good, I have to say.

And, yes, before you ask … 

I want one!

Although, to be honest?

The new Apple TV’s much more affordable: AND plays that suspicious pile of 4k videos I have.

If anyone wants to buy me something for Christmas …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 13-9-2016: Mario & Company …

Oh, BOY … !

I’m … vaguely nervous … 

And vaguely grateful for my luck.

Luck, you say … ?

I got a call, yesterday morning, telling me I’ve got an interview, today.   At a local pub.

Five years ago?   Non-drinker that I am, I wouldn’t have considered it.

These days, I’m not so fussy!

There’s more.

I got a call, a bit later: when I was at a friend’s, not far from mine.

That was a second interview: on Thursday.

I get back home, a little later, and check my email.   To find I’d been invited to a third interview, next Tuesday.

I’m VERY aware that I’ve put some work in.   And will have to put in more, to land one of these.

But … ?   I’m quietly hoping I get one of them.

It’s not just the money.   It’s the psychological effect of having a job that’s the appreciated bit.

In all this … ?

In all this, I mentioned, yesterday, that I was going to look into a local bookshop: to see what had happened with my CV.

Well … 

Not much.

However, the manager told me he’ll be passing it along to the recruiter for the area.

Hopefully?

That’ll lead to something … 

I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed.

Even temp work, over Christmas, would be good!
