5th February, 2026: Sir Robert Peel.

Right … I’ve officially published a couple of videos.

The one about leaving X … isn’t doing well.

But then, I wouldn’t expect it to.

That said … ?

My review of Ralph Bakshi’s version of The Lord of the Rings has done better in the same time-span.

That’s pleasantly surprising: given I no longer having access to X/Twitter means I can’t promote it, there.

We’ll have to see how it goes.

One point in that review … ?

Was it’s version of Gollum.

Which struck me as … well, as problematic.

I can’t help but think it sounded like a caricatured version of Shylock, or Fagin.

Mildly anti-semitic, in other words.

I’m just grateful it’s not something Andy Serkis repeated …

I’ve had Kate Bush’s “Wuthering Heights” earworming its way through my head, this morning.

So … ?

Have had a version from Spotify, playing: in an effort to get rid of it.

One that’s been repeatedly interrupted by adverts from a firm of solicitors called Irwin and Mitchell: offering to help get you compensation, if you’ve had an accident at work.

The thing’s featured an actor: playing a character who’s lost his leg in an accident at work … but who’s then told us he was “… in the military”.

Without actually telling us he’s had his leg blown off in combat.

Which I’m assuming is the inference we’re supposed to be drawing, here.

But?

If you’ve joined the Army, I’d imagine you’ve joined knowing that you could be killed or injured in combat, killed or injured on active service and killed or injured as a result of deliberate enemy action.

I have to ask, does getting your leg blown off as a result of stepping on a landmine count as an industrial accident?

Especially if the risk of coming back in a box is part of the job …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-2-2025 — Take Five.

5th February, 2025: Take Five.

In an overnight press conference, the US President has announced his intention to ‘… take over Gaza’: in what he’s called a “long term ownership position”.

And spoke of re-settling Palestinians in Egypt and Jordan.

The international reaction hasn’t been favourable, from what little I’ve seen,

To be honest?

Former real-estate developer that he is, I think he’s looking at this situation as a hotel builder’s paradise.

As something he, personally, can make money from.

And not as the political mess it actually is.

I have questions.

Is the man nuts?

Is he aware that he’s looks like a modern Hitler, demanding sovereign territory the US has no claim to?

Where is Janey Godley when you really need her?

Which means it’s the day after Tuesday.

And yes: my nephew, Jude, was over.

It’s official: it’s Monday.

And?

As ever, I’m up early: so I can get to my weight management class on time.

Hopefully?

I’ll find out whether I’ve lost some weight.

Getting up as early as I did … ?

Means I caught Radio Four’s Tweet of the Day: the (extremely brief) show that plays a bird call at listeners, along side a drive few facts about the bird in question.

Today’s Tweet?

Was presented by Chris Packham: and informed us about the bird making it, the (male) Great Bustard,

The one thing that struck me as funny — funny peculiar, rather than funny ha-ha — was the bird’s call.

I know ornithologists and bird watchers will define the word ‘tweet’ differently to me, and millions of Twitter users: but, for me, it’s got a light sort of feel to it.

It describes the sort of sound made by budgies, rather than anything else.

So, hearing the sound made by Great Bustards?

The only way I could describe the sound, is ‘Fart’!

My Mac — like most of the ones I’ve had over the past few years — has a feature that lets me find symbols, and emojis.

So you know?

‘💨’ is the emoji that comes up when I search for ‘fart’.

Someone’s got a bit too much time on their hands: and it’s not me!

And, thankfully?   No exercises to do.

After I’ve been up town for another dental Hygeniest appointment.

There’s a possibility I may not have gotten the job*.

There’s been a possible problem with my references.

Partly, I suspect, because the deadline was late last night: a bit too tight.

Partly, because I’ve not update the contact details for a while: it’s been a while since I’ve needed to.

Partly … ?

Well, LORD knows!

But … ?

If anyone wants to volunteer to be a reference, I’d love to hear from you … !

JUST as a thought … ?

You’ve realised I’m job hunting!

And on Universal Credit: receiving twenty pounds extra a week, as a result of an increase caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The increase is due to be withdrawn in April: which is something many are complaining about.

Many are also complaining about the proposed replacements.

Which, so far, have included a five hundred pound one off payment: and a one thousand pound one off payment.

I think these are nice ideas.

But the cash itself?

As I know from my own experience, the cash would last five minutes.

The £20 extra a week?   Would cost only a little more, per person: and would make life far more manageable, long term.

Surprisingly?

Pleasantly surprisingly?

Therese Coffey, MP, the current minister in charge of the Department of Work and Pensions, the department that administers Universal Credit?

Agrees: telling MPs that a “steady sum of money,” is her department’s preferred approach.

Personally?

I’m glad to hear one government minister sees sense.

For All Mankind — Series 1 Episode 8 — Rupture — A Review

5th February, 2020.

You’ve possibly realised this, already … but I’m job hunting.

So … ?

So I have little cash … but plenty of time.

Just to give you an example?   Last night, I manage to rip a Blu-Ray I’d … um … acquired.

Partly, I wanted to watch the contents, and don’t have a blu-ray player to do so.

Partly?   I wanted to see if I could get my ageing MacPro would be able to rip a file of the given resolution.

3840 by 2064, so you know: what they call 4k UHD.

I also wanted to see how the MacPro did against my more recent iMac.

Both machines about eight hours: both boiled the files down to an acceptable 2k file size.

Hmmm … 

Isn’t it funny, what we find entertaining?

Because, frankly?

I had other entertaining things to do.

Yep: after catching a superb series one episode of For All Mankind, last night … ?

Yes: I’ve done it, again: I’ve had a late — ish — night: catching up with the Apple TV+ show, For all Mankind.

Frankly?

It’s really rather good.

I know Apple’s better known for its hardware: I am sitting in front of a Mac, after all.

But, with For All Mankind, they’ve managed to make a very watchable series!

Remember, a few days ago, that I got that ever-so-slightly odd call: apparently from BT?

And that I’d had trouble resetting my password from BT’s end: meaning I couldn’t access they’re recruitment site.

I actually managed to sort THAT out.

Partly by checking my passwords … and partly by deleting unused passwords from my Keychain.

And get back onto BT’s recruitment site as a result.

Filling in a form for a job, as a result.

I had a missed called, yesterday.

And a voice mail.

They’d like to talk to me about the position … 

Well, finally … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th February, 2018

5th February, 2018.

No, really, it’s true.

I’ve actually managed to see the Denis Villeneuve directed, Blade Runner 2049.

Last night, so you know.

Frankly, and for all it’s glorious imagery?

It’s just a bit too long: by about forty-five minutes.

There’s more: it occurred to me, while I was in bed — after I’d written my post, wouldn’t you know it? — that the focus of the plot was wrong.

It focuses on K — Ryan Gosling — in his attempt to find the impossible child of a replicant, in a quest to find his own identity.

When maybe it should have focused on Niander Wallace’s (Jared Leto) search for the same child.

Two hours and forty five minutes of Ryan Gosling wandering around looking bloody miserable … 

Could’ve had a lot more plot.

And a lot more villain.

Just as an extra thought: I’ve got the radio on: as ever.

Set to Radio 4’s Today programme.

Who’ve just announced there’s snow warnings for the southeast: something I’ve double checked with my weather app.

It’s true, there’s warnings.

I’ve looked out of the window.

It’s looking bleak …

Blimey … 

That seemed to go … um … 

Well … 

You realise I’ve recently started a new job: one I rather enjoy.

And, yesterday?

Did my first twelve hour shift.

Which went rather well, I think.

But, boy, that’s a long day!

About the only downside?

Was the trip into and out of work.

Under normal circumstances?

I’d get the train from Brentwood to Shenfield, then from Shenfield to Chelmsford.

A relatively quick trip.

However, for the next few months, and starting from yesterday?

The rail replacement buses are in play at the week end: whilst more work’s done on the Crossrail route.

For now, that means my trip into work is:

• A bus from Brentwood to Shenfield.
• A bus from Shenfield to Ingatestone.
• A train from Ingatestone to Chelmsford.

OK, it’s a trip between the same two towns.

• But it takes about ten minutes longer.
• It’s a major pain in the proverbial.
• It goes on until late May.

Sheesh … !

Payday, again … 

Which reminds me of a couple of things.

First up … ?   I’m going to have to put a few quid in my savings account.

It’s not something I’ve ever made a habit of, of the past few years: and is something I want to keep doing.

I’d LIKE to buy a newer model Mac, at some point.

On top of THAT?

Well, I wanted to get myself a copy of Liverpool: Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s second album: but JUST found out it’s cheaper on iTunes.

And to think, I didn’t think they had a copy.
