4th January, 2026: Burj Khalifa.

It’s officially Sunday morning … and?

I’m up, about and cold! 

But, more importantly, very aware it’s colder, outside.

As I write?

The BBC’s Weather website is telling me it’s -3ºC, out.

I’m grateful I’m indoors: my thermostat’s telling me it’s 21°C!

Warmer than outside … although my feet are complaining it’s nippy!

I’m just grateful I’m not next door to an old friend: who lives in Finland.

She’s just told me it’s -16°.

‘Nippy’ is possibly not the word … !

I mentioned, yesterday, that the US President was bombing Caracas, the Venezuelan capital: in a move I felt was an illegal act of military aggression.

You’re supposed to declare war before you do these things: and have a pretence of an excuse for doing so, if nothing else.

Former president Obama did, when US special forces violated foreign soil, to kill Osama bin Laden: the Bin Laden had organised the 9/11 World Trade Centre attacks.

The 47th President’s excuse?

Was that Venezuelan President Maduro was a drug trafficker, and should face US justice on US soil.

The US President also says the US is going to ‘run’ Venezuela for the interim: until stable government can be formed.

I’m angry.

The US President has violated US history — a history fighting for its independence from an empire, from Britain, its history of fighting evil regimes — by kidnapping a foreign leader, and attempting to take over that leader’s country.

Behaving as badly as some of the regimes it’s fought, and breaking laws it helped set.

And behaving like the sort of empire it’s always claimed not to be.

Personally?

I believe the 47th president of the USA is several things.

But I’ll let you use your preferred insults, about now: I’ll start with the words ‘evil’ and hypocritical, and work my way up.

Right … it’s now, officially, Saturday!

Yay!

Again!

At any rate, it’s not a day where I’m planning to do much … beyond wait.

I’ve applied for a bus pass that it seems I’m eligible for.

Only the site I’ve applied to keeps reject my documents.

Why?

I don’t know.

Frustrating, eh … ?

Right then … 

It’s officially Thursday: and I have nothing planned for today.

Beyond a little light shopping.

I am running out of spuds: so having a few more could be an idea.

Especially as the air fryer I got for Christmas seems to do them so well.

Did I mention I caught a film, last night?

I caught a film last night: 1997’s Event Horizon.

It’s not something I’m planning on reviewing: as I’ve covered it a couple of times, already.

Frankly?

I know there’s criticisms of the film: Sam Neill’s performance is good, but mildly schizophrenic.

I suspect Neill’s performance — along with the film’s other flaws — can be blame on the studio — the studio, rather than director, Paul W. S. Anderson — insisting it be cut from a one-hundred and thirty minute version to an hour and a half.

But what we get on screen, from the design of the ship, the effects, to Laurence Fishburne’s hefty performance as Captain Miller?

Is still quite something to watch!

4th January, 2023: Sir Isaac Newton.

It’s official: it’s Wednesday.

Which means … ?

It’s the day after Tuesday: obviously.

A day both I, and my nephew, Jude, posted more videos.

I’m not working, right now: or, at least, not in regular paid employment.

I’m on welfare benefits as a result: specifically, one called Universal Credit, one that covers my housing, energy, and food bills.

It’s not exactly what we call enough.

But the extra cost of living payments the government has provided over the past few years have helped.

Last year?   These included a £400 payment to cover every costs: and — for those of us on benefits — and extra payment of £650, paid in two lump sums.

Late last year?   The government announced it would be scrapping the £400 energy payment: and replacing the £650 with a £900 payment.

Yesterday?

Saw the announcement of when it would be paid.

It’s going to be in three instalments: the first in Spring of this year, the second in Autumn, and the third in Spring of next year, of 2024.

In other words?

Over the course of the tax year for 2023/24, rather than the calendar year, 2023.

I’m assuming it’s being done that way to offset some of the costs with next years tax revenues.

Personally?

I would rather have had the payments over the course of 2023.

That would’ve made the calendar year a lot easier!

4th January, 2022.

Yep: I’m up early.

Because of urine.

In other words, I’ve had to do a urine sample: and need to get it to the surgery, comparatively early.

Then get shopping … then get home by twelve.

I’ve got a repair man coming to fix my birth room light at twelve: and a job centre phone meeting at one-thirty.

I can only hope they’re done quickly!

Today’s intro includes a rather sad joke you can pull off with a pair of tongs.

On an upside?

I boil washed my teatowels, yesterday: the tongs come in handy for fishing them out of the big pot.

On an equal upside?

The earworm’s gone: after a bout of the Barron Knights.

Nope, I’m not telling you what the original earworm was: you’ll never get rid of it!

While we’re at it … ?

You’re possibly aware that I listen to Radio 4’s Today programme: and, usually?   I don’t expect it to collide with Dr Who, one of my favourite TV shows.

It did, this morning.

With the presenter telling us that — according to a few UK tabloids — Jodie Whittaker will be leaving Dr Who, after the thirteenth series.

That’s a disappointment, if it’s the case.

Covid 19 — and, I suspect, budget reductions — have meant she’s done a lot less work than her predecessors.

We’ll have to wait for an official announcement from either her, or the BBC.

But … ?

I have to ask what the odds are for a very competent black British actor being cast in the role, full time?

Considering one has already been offered the role, and apparently, turned it down?

Waiting for the delivery of something I ordered with my last bit of Christmas money.

Yep: I’m waiting for The Leopard from Lime Street to turn up.

Yes: you’re right … I’ve time for the second episode of Dracula.

And it’s not one by Ireland’s best known dead rock star.

It’s an obscure piece of Canadian synth pop, called Living on Video.

And it has to be said that — in the video — the lead singer looks EVER so concerned … 

As opposed to the backing singer: who’s bored out of her skull and wondering when she can stop dancing … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-1-2017: World Braille Day

Hmmm … 

I actually looked in on CeX, yesterday: to buy a cable.

The reason I mention this?

Is my hard drive.

Over Christmas, I managed to buy myself a new, larger capacity, internal hard drive: to use as storage for an ever increasing library of TV series.

Four whole terabytes, so you know.

The result?   I’ve a two terabyte one to sell.   One I’ve owned since new, is verifiably in good condition, and shows up on several machines.

I’m actually tempted to go back, today.

And ask them to retest the thing.

The last time I did … ?

Their caddy — hard drive enclosure, in other words — wasn’t working.

The REASON I point that out?

Is that I’m seriously thinking go heading up there, again, today.

And, to counter that problem?   Taking my own caddy in, and asking them if they’d like to borrow mine.

Whether they’d be allowed to, whether they’d go for it?

I don’t know.

I’m happy to try it, I’m that twitted off with them.

Frankly, it’s that …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-1-2016

Well, THAT was odd … !

As much as I complain about the router I have — a BT HomeHub3 — my internet service provider, BT … ?

Usually manage to do a good job of making sure the signal from the net keeps coming down the pipes.

Even if I wish those signals … you know … moved a bit faster!

Last night, though?   After I got home from the office?

I was faced with a ‘You are not connected to the Internet’ message.

With no problems at my end: at least, my bills are paid, I’d cache cleaned my browsers on everything, restarted the router, modem and my devices … 

Still not a sausage.

It was only after waiting for a while, that things righted themselves.

I did manage to contact BT, though.

Apparently?   They’re having issues that they’re working to resolve.

But are going to be affecting lines, intermittently, over the next forty-eight hours.

JUST in time for my two days off.

Yeah …
