Did I mention I have a blu-ray on order?

I’ve got a blu-ray on order: of the classic 1980s comedy, The Young Ones.

Why?

Especially given it’s on the BBC iPlayer?   And I bought a streamed version through Apple’s TV.app?

Well … 

One: the version on the iPlayer is edited to remove language now considered offensive.   The streamed version hasn’t.   I’m hoping the bluray version hasn’t, either.

Two?

The blu-ray version has extras both the TV.app and iPlayer version doesn’t.

Finally, three … ?

I’ve been watching the science-fiction/horror series, Alien: Earth, just recently.

The series features Adrian Edmondson — Vyvyan, from The Young Ones — as a corporate heavy.

I’ve had Vyvyan’s “I don’t want my forehead to rust” line banging through my head, since I started watching it!

Argh!

I have to admit, I can see why the … … 

Actually, no I can’t: I can’t see why the iPlayer version’s been cut.

Well … I know why: it’s some offensive language in the episode, “Flood”.

Which has always struck me as mildly hypocritical of the BBC.

Especially when the iPlater release of Porridge released on iPlayer at the same sort of time as The Young Ones, just had a content warning: rather than heavy handed editing!

It’s officially official: it’s Friday.

And … ?

I’ve picked up — and taken — the Mounjaro I’ve been prescribed.

Hopefully, the blood tests I’m due to have, next week, will show what sort of effect it’s having.

I think it’s doing something.

Unlike the Trulicity I was on — but much the Ozempic I was originally using — I get a case of the jitters once I’ve had a dose.

I’m taking that as a good sign.

I don’t know if some things are wise.

I’ve done a few things over the years, that definitely weren’t!

But … ?

I’m thinking about politics, here.

Seemingly?

Donald Trump has confirmed that — should he win this year’s US presidential election? — he’s planning to appoint X owner, Elon Musk, to what Trump calls a ‘government efficiency force.’

After Elon publicly endorsed Trump’s campaign.

Outside of the fact that that sounds like a ‘Cash for Honours’ arrangement?

I don’t think that’s wise.

It’s whiffy, rather than wise: smelly, rather than sensible.

But if appointing a man who owns a media platform is wise, is sensible, is — ha — a good thing?

Then Silvio Berlusconi’s appointment as Italian PM — despite his owning three of Italy’s biggest TV channels, despite his alleged links to the Mafia, despite the many controversies — was very wise, indeed.

Right … it’s officially a Wednesday.

And?

Unless the Department of Work and Pensions suddenly decide to give me a ton of cash?

One I suspect is going to be both hot: and quiet.

Yes: my nephew, Jude, was over last night.

Yes: he’s uploaded another video … 

And yes: I’ve managed to help him set up a new Playstation 5: one with a blu-ray drive.

Yes, that was expensive: but gives me an idea of what to get him for Christmas.

Yes: we now have Liz Truss as Prime Minister.

And, frankly?

I’m not sure I’m keen on her.

Even though he never made it permanent, at least Rishi Sunak introduced the £20 uplift.

So … ?

I’m not convinced she’s going to benefit me: or the UK.

The next election’s due in 2024.

It can’t come a moment too soon.

Stuff, stuff, stuff … and more stuff!

Believe it or not, I’ve got a phone meeting, today: with my Work and Health Programme case worker.

That’s at ten, so I’m feeling slightly rushed.

I’ve also got to get to my GP’s, to get a Fit note.

THEN get a little shopping: I’m thinking Chilli con Carne would be good, so I’d need peppers.

All that … and get back for six thirty.

The new series of Just a Minute, with Sue Perkins in the chair, starts tonight.

That should be good.

I have to admit, I’m not usually a big music fan.

But was saddened to hear, yesterday, about the death of Girls Aloud member, Sarah Harding: at the age of thirty-nine.

That’s way too young!

RIP Sarah.

Yes: I officially have stuff going on.

Officially?   I have an interview on, at four o’clock: for a local bookies.

Yes, it’s the one I had reservations about, yesterday.

After a lot of persuasion?   I’ve decided to go along.

What’ll happen, whether I’ll get the job … ?   Considering I didn’t last time?

You’ve probably worked out, over the years, that I’m something of an Apple fan.

Hadn’t you … ?

At least, certainly a technology watcher.

So … ?

Something grabbed me, yesterday: this piece informs us that Amazon are planning to introduce their own branded smart TV: and sell it in the UK, at Currys/PC World.

I’m … 

I remember — around the time of Steve Jobs’ death, in 2011 — that there were rumours that Apple were going to introduce a Smart TV: rather than the streaming box we see, today, and at a time when Smart TVs were a lot rarer than they are, today.

I believed that, after reading Jobs’ biography, and from the various bits and bobs from various Apple watchers.

In the wake of his death?

Nothing happened.   Not a thing.

We saw the upgraded streaming box: which is great, I should add, and very different to earlier versions.

But no actual Apple Smart TV.

I concluded that the Smart TV was a Jobs lead project, and one that died with him.

Which is a shame.

And, from a company with a reputation for innovating, and making innovative devices, a seriously dropped ball.

Fast forward to today?

Fast forward to today, and — seemingly — Amazon are apparently planning their own smart tv: following the likes of Microsoft, and Apple itself, in making hardware as well as software, and other services.

Personally?

I think Apple stopped innovating.

That’s not a good thing.

Just to give you an example?

The producers of American Horror Story have officially announced the air date for series eight, Apocalypse.

12th September, so you know.

I’m looking forward to it.

I’m ALSO looking forward to Sunday, 7th October, 2018.

The BBC have finally done the decent thing and announced it as the airdate for Dr Who’s eleventh series.

It’s an non-standard day of the week …

But it’s about bloody time!

Hmmmm … 

It’s my second day of unemployment … 

And … ?

Well, I’m thinking there’s tons to be doing.

I know that I’ve got — with the little bit of savings I have — to put some money onto my utilities meters: gas and electric, in other words.

And pick up some tinned food.   Stuff that’ll last.

Oh … 

There’s ALSO a couple of places in Brentwood High Street after staff: I’ve myself a remainder to take my CV into them, too.

I can only hope this helps …
