Is that I’ve caught more episodes of various TV shows.

Frankly?

Series two of Blacklist looks good: but is starting to pale, after binge watching Slow Horses, and catching the opening episode of Silo series three.

Still, I can’t complain too much.

They’re entertaining, after all.

I’ve a mental image of the Swedish Chef, done up as a Borg … 

… and the phrase “Resistibonk is flumpty” banging through my head.

If I knew that, I’d be earning a fortune.

Is a mysterious beeping noise.

One that’s been going on since the power cut a couple of days ago, and is coming from a flat over the road.

• Has something serious happened?
• Is the tenant really OK?
• How much Italic lettering can I use?
• What on Earth is going on?

I’m sorely tempted to head over and ask …

My nephew, Jude, was over, last night.

Yes: fish, chips, chicken nuggets and onion rings were eaten.

After Jude managed to upload some videos.

As a final, final thought?

One I know I’ve mentioned a time or two?

Somewhere out there is a games company called Steve Jackson Games: best known for Car Wars, and GURPS.

GURPS, so you know, saw a generic role playing game.

You bought the main rules, and designed whatever background world, adventures and additional rules, as needed.

But you could also get pre-prepared backgrounds, and adventures.

Unfortunately for Steve Jackson Games?

They ended up getting severely raided by the US Secret Service after releasing GURPS Cyberpunk: during what the Service called Operation Sundevil.

The raid?

In delaying the release of GURPS Cyberpunk, the raid did Steve Jackson Games substantial financial damage.

The ensuing court case?

Over a raid on a games company?

Has made the Service look stupid, to this day*.

5th July, 2024: News of the World.

It’s officially official: it’s Friday.

And the day after the election.

Britain now has a Labour government: as the party won a landslide in yesterday’s election.

Personally?   I’m just glad that — here in Brentwood*? — the extremely right of centre Reform party came second.

Thankfully!

And, whilst I really didn’t want the local MP to regain his seat … ?

I couldn’t be happier with a result that left a Tory in charge.

It meant not having a Reform MP!

5th July, 2023: The National Health Service.

Right … it’s now officially Wednesday!

And … ?

I’ve managed to reschedule the assessment I was due to have, for a couple of week’s time.

As it clashed with the engineer’s visit: the engineer who’s due to replace my gas meter.

I can only hope the installation is quick: and the meter, itself, easy to top up.

That’s the important bit.

Yes: my nephew, Jude, was over, yesterday.

And, on top of my review of Guns for Hire?

We managed to get a couple of videos done: including one of Mikey the Rabbit!

Right … I’ve now officially had the engineer’s visit.

There’s a problem: he can’t install the gas meter.

Without installing a communications hub on the electricity meter.

He couldn’t do that … without wiping the credit on the electricity meter.

I’ve phone my supplier, SSE: they’re going to contact me within twenty-days, to book up a new appointment.

Right: it’s officially Tuesday.

And the repair man’s due, today.

To fix a washing machine that — after the repair on Friday — is not functioning as it should.

Hopefully?

I’ll have a working washing machine.

From what I’ve seen of the place?   The USA can be a fine place.

But does have its issues.

Frequent mass shootings seem to be cropping up a lot, recently.

Despite President Biden signing new gun control laws?

Yesterday — Independence Day, American’s best known holiday, the day that celebrates the nation’s founding — saw a man identified as Robert E. Crimo III shoot six people with a high powered rifle.

In Chicago.

You’ve heard of the Second Amendment to the US constitution?   The one that guarantees the US Right to Bear Arms?

It strikes me that the Second Amendment, the one that effectively allows anyone in the US to buy a weapon, the one that effectively allowed someone to buy a gun and shoot innocent people celebrating their nation’s founding … 

Should be, like 18th Amendment the prohibited alcohol sales, repealed.

The USA has a problem.   Repealing the Second may help.

He’ll have found something I can apply to!

I’ve got the training course the Job Centre’s put me on.

Forty minutes of Zooming fun, in other words.

Which reminds me: once I’ve done the next batch of Teaser videos, I really need to do the next bit of That Health and Safety course: you never know when that’s useful …

Oh … Romance scams … 

Have you heard of them … ?

It’s when a malicious person pretends to be someone else: who’s fallen in love you … and then asks you for a ridiculous amount of money — cash, or gift vouchers — so they can fly over to marry you.

Or pay hospital bills for they sick mother.   Or buy an army uniform.   What have you.

I used to get a few on Instagram: they’re usually easy to spot, as they’re private messages that come out of the blue.

Instagram’s gone quiet on me: although I’ve one follower I have my doubts about.

At any rate?

Romance scams on Instagram have gone quiet … then I had at least two crop up on Facebook Messenger.

Including a person claiming to be called ‘Diane Boyd’.

Except, according to her profile link … ?

She was called Emmanuel Udo.

Yes: it’s official.

At least one romance scammer doesn’t know how to disguise their real name …

I’m going to be taping Channel four series, Humans, tonight.

You’ve probably worked out that I’ve got an AppleTV.   And love it to bits.

I’m ALSO aware that Channel 4 has a good reputation for drama.

That’s certainly true.

My only problem?   Is simply that, while every other major TV channel in the UK has a catch up app available for the AppleTV, Channel 4 doesn’t.

Bit of a flaw, Channel 4.

I think that’s sort of what I had in mind, possibly.

Right now?

I’ve got Machine Age Voodoo, by Australian noise band, SPK.

Mostly because I can remember seeing one song — Metal Dance — on The Tube, many years ago.

Top of the Tops, the BBC’s long running music show?

Was relatively mainstream: featuring whatever happened to be in the charts, mimed by the artists.

The Tube?   Could be really way out: live

Which is why Metal Dance stuck in my my mind.   

The band did it live, looked like they walked straight off the set of a Mad Max film, were decidedly odd … 

And had live angle-grinders as part of the gig!

Odd doesn’t even start!

Hmmm … 

I have good news … 

And I have bad news.

On the upside?

I’ve had a tax rebate!

And they’re like getting blood from a stone.

It is, admittedly, not much of a tax rebate.

But, in theory?

Let’s me pay for a new pair of glasses, maybe a week or so’s rent: and possibly some shopping.

Possibly a copy of Lion that I’ve been promising myself for a while, now.

On the downside … ?

I’ve seen my hours for next week.

Minimal enough that I‘ve warned the main manager at work that my resignation could well be on the table.

Not something I want to do.

On the other hand … ?

Can I make a confession … ?

I’m feeling slightly nervous.

Not seriously nervous: but nervous enough.

You see … I’ve got an interview, today.

Although whether I’ll get the job concerned is a whole other matter.

It DOES come at a good time.

I’m not unhappy at work.

But we have a change in manager, this week.

On top of that … ?   On top of that, there’s always people one doesn’t get on with: something that’s been boiling for a while, but that’s seriously starting to bother me, recently.

Either way … ?
