1st July, 2026: New Brunswick.

I think it’s official.

No, I know it’s official.

It’s Wednesday!

Although quite why I thought it was Tuesday, I don’t know.

I spent most of Friday, just gone, convinced it was Saturday.

Why do people’s brain do that?

Tell them it’s Day A, when it’s actually Day B?

I wish I knew.

It would possibly explain a lot!

On other fronts?

I had a letter, the other day: from the NHS hospital that had carried out my most recent stool sample tests.

The letter told me I was — thankfully! —   free of any issues.

I have to admit to mixed feelings.

On the one hand, ‘free of any issues’ means I have nothing that needs removing.

No polyps, no cancerous bodies.

It also means I’ve avoided a colonoscopy.

Which is a good thing: as effective as they are, they’re not exactly comfortable!

On the other hand?

I’ve got the worry that the test has missed something.

And that — as uncomfortable as the procedure is — having a colonoscopy means I could be certain I’m free of bowel cancer.

It’s … well … 

It’s a mixed result, I think.

1st July, 2025: Quebec.

Right … 

It’s official.

It’s just gone 7:30 on a July morning.

And … ?

The thermostat in the hallway is telling me it’s 26.5℃ in here.

The weather’s going to get warmer.

And … ?

I think I’m going to get sweatier, today … !

Ho … hum … !

You know, tech news is something that interests me.

So does the gossip.

Something that did catch my attention?

Is the gossip that says that Apple are potential going to be introduction a model of MacBook Air — their lightweight laptop — with an A18 processor.

The processor that powers recent models of iPhones.

There’s possibly a couple of points, there.

I know that — when he rejoined the company in the 1990s — former CEO, Steve Jobs, culled a lot of Mac models: so the company could reduce manufacturing costs

Will this leave the company vulnerable?

I don’t know: but it’s something the management team may need to keep their eyes on.

The other?

Is that the possible model is supposed to be the new low-end, cheap, option.

Roughly equivalent to the current £999 option.

Will that work for them?

Would that appeal to those who would otherwise buy a cheap Windows machine?

Or a Chromebook?

We’ll have to see: a lot of that appeal will come down to price-point …

Yes: it’s that day of the week, again: which means I’m up early.

I did catch one of the extra features, last night: The Escape Room*.

In case you didn’t know, an escape room is a type of puzzle game.

You lock a handful of people in a room.

To get out?   They have to solve a series of puzzles†.

Watching Peter Purves, Maureen O’Brian and Lisa Bowerman, trying to solve a lot of Dr Who themed puzzles was rather fun!

But I’ll tell you what: Maureen O’Brian’s impatient!

It’s written in Gibberish that’s supposed to sound like English.

But — as catchy as it is? — it was the dancers that caught my eye.

Right … it’s Friday: you’ve possibly noticed.

That means I’m due to be visited by Hotpoint: the company that made my washing machine.

I’m told he’ll be here between 8:39 and 11:39: but have an all day window.

I hope he’s here soon: I’d like to get some fresh air!

I’m watching the Sky Max version of John Wyndham’s The Midwich Cuckoos.

The story’s been updated: as you’d expect.   The main character, Gordon Zellaby, is now Susannah Zellaby, and played by Keeley Hawes.

Three episodes in?

It’s looking rather good.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-7-2021: Canada Day

1st July, 2021.

Yes: I’m annoyed.

I was due to have a diabetic eye test, yesterday: at a local surgery in Warley, rather than my usual surgery.

I missed it.

And not through any fault of my own.

I got the the relevant bus stop, in time: but missed two direct bus.

So caught the 72, instead.

What I didn’t realise?   Was that the 72 goes up Avenue Road, then down Woodman Road, rather than straight up Warley Hill — the B186, so you know — to get there.

Which is where the problems started.

The bus got held up on Woodman Road: as it couldn’t get past a couple of badly parked cars.

Two.

Badly.

Parked.

Cars.

I was fuming.

And, when the driver asked if I’d rather get off, to walk to my appointment?

I took the chance: not realising quite how long it could take.

By the time of the appointment?   I was further down Woodman Road, the bus had zoomed past me, after taking a diversion … and, three minutes after the thing was due to start?

The surgery had phoned me to tell me I was latte, and they would be sending me a letter to rebook things.

I spent most of yesterday?   Swearing on social media.

The only upside to the day?

I got the rat trap set up … and won three pounds* on the lottery.

I hate that, when that happens!

I managed to cut my finger, on an especially sharp knife, last night.

Whilst washing up.

In case you were wondering.

That especially lurid plastic was tricky to put on.

I’m left handed … so you know … !

You’ve possibly read, yesterday, that I’d emailed the Department for Education: about digital poverty in schools, and a scheme they have in place.

I’d also written — here — about how various providers had answered me, when I asked about this.

You’ll note I’ve updated the piece, when TalkTalk reconnected with me: to let me know they couldn’t match BT’s Basic + Broadband prices.

Which is sad, but about what I was expecting.

One positive things I could do?

Was contact Vigin, Sky, and the Post office: to see if they’d like to comment.

Right to reply, and all that … 

This text is the one I sent to the Post Office: with re-worded versions going to Sky and Virgin

Dear Sir,

I recently wrote to you: to let you know I am a blogger, planning an article on digital poverty.

And wondering if you were able to match BT’s Basic + Broadband offering.

I’m also curious to know if the Post Office offers help to the unemployed: or to organisations that support them.

Either as cheap ’Net connections, or free prepay devices.

I’ve also put the same questions to EE, TalkTalk, Virgin Media, and Sky.

I’ve heard from EE: who were able to tell me what they were doing to help vulnerable customers, and of a donation of pre-pay tablets they’d made.

I’ve ALSO heard from TalkTalk.   Whilst they weren’t doing as much as EE, they were able to tell me their couldn’t match BT’s deal, and point me at their cheapest deal.

However?

I’ve not heard back from Virgin, or Sky.

I’ve had a very incomplete response from your company.

Something I’ve felt bound to mention in the third of my articles about digital poverty.

With that in mind … ?

I would like to ask whether you would be able to match the BT price I mentioned. (£10.07 per month, a router, no connection fee and a strict download limit.)

I would also like to know what efforts you’re making to work either with charities, or directly, to help the unemployed.

I have to admit, I owe my sisters a big thank you, there: they know why.

At any rate … ?   I’ve an oven due to come on the 17th, a new microwave, and a new TV.

A haircut is comparatively cheap.

And yes: it’s a Sunday night where I’ve cleaned my pants.

Which I think is something I think you’d rather not know, but there you go.

At any rate?

It’s Sunday.

I’ve got Kraftwerk’s Autobahn on in the background.

And I’ve just seen a movie: the 2018 release, Black Panther.

And, yes: I am impressed, thank you!

Yeps.   It’s a Sunday!

Which means … well, frankly, not a lot.

Bar the odd bit of cleaning, and maybe — just MAYBE — shopping.

And doing some Teaser videos: I’ve a couple of interesting, shorter, themed videos to do.

Well … 

I think they’re interesting.

I wrote the blessed things.

You know, there are some websites you can’t get too.

Mostly?

Where they’re blocked under various UK court orders.

Demonoid, for example.   Pirate Bay, another.   ExtraTorrent, a third.

All of them let you access illegally shared copyrighted material, online.

You try getting to either, with your regular browser?

Your Internet Service Provide sends you to a list of sites it has to stop you going to.

You’d need a copy of TorBrowser — or something like it — to get to sites like those.

I have to admit, I got bored at work, yesterday.

And randomly went to have a look for Demonoid: fully expecting to be blocked by the IT department.

Long story.

But I’d expect the IT department to have a block in place.

I got through.

With Internet Explorer.

God knows how!

There’s questions.

Why didn’t the IT department block Demonoid?

Why didn’t my workplace ISP block Demonoid?

Why on the gods green earth did I go looking?

Oh … 

And how much trouble am I in … ?

To be frank, though, that’s my own fault.

I will insist on staying up late, watching TV.

Which will probably tell you a lot.

Or, at least, that season one of American Horror Story is worth watching.

It’s a Saturday.

And it’s the last Saturday that Peter Capaldi will be appearing as the Doctor.

Bar the Christmas special, his era is over.

Which is something of a shame: Capaldi’s era, with it’s Hincliffe and Holmes era feel, it something I’ve found very watchable.

Talking of the special?

There’s been rumours that the Christmas special won’t just see a regeneration.

But the return of the First Doctor: played by David Bradley.

Capaldi’s regeneration?

Sounds interesting … !

You know, it’s not often I miss a trick.

But I’m thinking I missed a trick.

Frankly … ?   When writing a Teaser for today?

I totally overlooked the fact today … is the 100th anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Somme.

So I won’t be marking the battle with a Teaser.

But … ?

But I’ll be listening to the various bits of news coverage, as far as I’m able.

And?

I’ll be quietly hopeful the battle’s like won’t happen again.
