Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-7-2026 — Eunomia

29th July, 2026: Eunomia.

OK … bloody Amazon … !

I’ve got another box of diet colas on order: which was supposed to be delivered, yesterday.

And is now coming today, for some reason.

Why?

I don’t know: but I’ve sent off an annoyed email … again … !

~≈🏬≈~

Oh … and I’ve got an earworm!

BA Robertson’s “Knocked it Off”.

Why … ?

I don’t know.

But if I get a chance, I’ll put something on repeat to get rid of it!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-7-2025 — The Dwarf Planet

29th July, 2025: the Dwarf Planet … !

It’s official: there’s some Charlie Parker on in the background, it’s Tuesday morning …

And I’m up early: and have managed to avoid the word “Groovy”.

Why … ?

I’ve got repairmen due: to lower my kitchen cupboards.

Hopefully?

The process won’t take long.

I’d really like to go back to bed … !

~≈🥱≈~

Did I mention my washing machine’s having issues?

My washing machine’s having issues!

According to the repair people I spoke to, over at Mackfields … ?

It’s a blocked sump: which is going to cost me sixty pounds (£60).

I should be able to cover some of it …

But if anyone would like to help?

My PayPal account is here.

It would be very appreciated … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th July 2024

29th July, 2024.

Right, then … Mondays … !

I am, as you can imagine, up early, again.

Yep: it’s weight management class day.

I gained a little, last week: even though the general trend is still downwards.

Hopefully?

I’ll’ve lost something!

I do know I’ve a colonoscopy, next Tuesday.

And that I have to start taking the laxatives, today.

I’m not looking forward to that.

To nick an idea from Orwell?

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th July, 2023.

29th July, 2023.

Right …

I can safely say that things … have happened.

I’ve now had my new, smart, utility meters — new gas and electricity meters— put in.

And have to admit, I found the process … quite stressful.

The actual engineer who did the installation?

Was fine: he was both polite, and seemed very efficient.

Which, for me?

Was reassuring.

The stuff that wasn’t … ?

Was the consequences.

I now have what my suppliers call an in-home-display.

It’s a little widget that lets me monitor how much gas and electricity I’m using, when I’m using it.

AND shows my current credit balance.

Can I make a confession … ?

Setting up the phone app, registering my payment cards, and waiting for all this to be acknowledged?

Was even more stressful!

As was topping up: after all, I’ve never actually used this new — and comparatively slow — process.

That slowness?   Is due to the fact that payments go onto my new meter over the ’Net: rather than by plugging a key or card, directly into the meter.

That slowness is not reassuring.

Especially as I’m used to the instant response from the old meters.

It’s …

Well, the old Newspeak term seems to fit.

It’s Ungood.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th July, 2022

29th July, 2022.

Yeah: yesterday was a bit of a day.

For a start … ?

Actor, Bernard Cribbins died.

I remember him from many things.

Right Said Fred and Hole in the Ground were a hell of a lot of fun.

There were film appearances, TV appearances, the most Jackanory appearances by any one given performer.

Personally?   I remember seeing him as Tom Cambell in Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D, the second Dr Who movie.

I think the man’s biggest legacy?   Was providing the narration — and voicing every single character — in The Wombles.

The show was the only one at the time that talked about recycling stuff: at a time when no other show — with the possible exception of Blue Peter — did so.

Legacy doesn’t even start …

~≈♽≈~

Yesterday … ?

I was up early: I had a Zoom meeting to attend, at ten, and wanted to make sure I’d done my usual stuff done, first.

I didn’t notice the yelling from up the road: at around 7:20ish.

There’s always someone having an argument, around here!

I also didn’t consciously notice the emergency ambulance, trauma team, and half a dozen police cars, turning up

Or know about them, until;
  • Someone asked what was happening on my street’s Facebook group.
  • At least three people contacted me — through Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp — to ask if I was ok, and what on Earth was happening!
Which is me all over!

At any rate?   A resident of Torville Court, the block next to mine, had been attacked: and seriously injured.

According to the Essex Live reports?   A 28 year old man had been arrested on charges of Actual Bodily Harm, and for assaulting one of the ambulance staff.

From other things I’ve been told?   And if the victim is who I think it is?   (Which seems likely, from descriptions I’ve been given.)

The victim is said to have all sorts of dodgy dealings.

And last got stabbed back in 2015.

I know no more than that: but will be keeping an eye peeled.

No one’s said anything about murder, as yet …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29th July, 2021.

29th July, 2021.

It’s sunny, for once.

Sunny!

Which is good.

It means I can complain about the sunshine, AND the lack of rain.

After complaining, a few days ago, about a distinct lack of rain.

Don’t you just love it, when I get contradictory!

~≈☀️≈~

One of my favourite bands, when I was younger?

Were American blues/rockers, ZZTop.

I’d never seen them live — I’m told they were fantastic — but know they did some fantastic albums, singles and videos.

You’ve possibly noticed I’m saying were, and did.

Sadly, bassist Dusty Hill, died last night: at the age of 72.

He’ll be missed: by legions of fans, by lovers of Texas Boogie … and by anyone that appreciated the fact ZZTop were that rarest of things: a band that survived, with the same lineup, for fifty-one years.

RIP, Dusty: you’re going to be missed.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 28-7-2020: International Tiger Day

29th July, 2020.

Yes: it’s officially official …

Stuff’s happening.

But that’s always the way, isn’t it?

I do know I went into town, yesterday: to follow up on the O2 situation.

And, at least, managed to talk an escalation manager.

Who’s advised that there’s not much they can do until the 31st — Friday, in other words* — when the system is due to be updated.

Frankly?   130 Kings Road’s still being gutted, the two extra floors haven’t even started, there’s no sign of anything resembling a phone mast … so I’m assuming we’re going to get a pigs dinner of a weekend.

~≈†≈~

On other fronts … ?

I don’t know what happened, there …

But we’ve just had a power cut: a very short one.

Why?

I don’t know, I know it’s hit the people in Railway Square, around the corner from me.

Frankly, I’m hoping it’s a brief glitch, somewhere.

I’d hate to think it’s deliberate … !

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-7-2019: Pakal

29th July, 2019.

Right … I’m officially off out, today: to have lunch with my sister.

Or, at least, visit the library.

Complete with my nephew in two: who’s possibly going to need … a library ticket.

Which could be fun … !

If he’s got no ID …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-7-2018: NASA

29th July, 2018.

It’s got to reiterated: it’s a Sunday.

I’m up WAY too early: but that’s what I’m getting paid for!

But I have to say … I actually got some sleep, last night.

Well …

After reading a few more pages of a book.

The book at bedtime at the moment?

Is LeGuin’s The Other Wind.

And … ?

My word, the woman’s prose was gorgeous!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-7-2017

Hmmm …

It’s a working Saturday …

And one where I’m thinking ‘tired,’ doesn’t necessarily cover how I’m felling at the mo!

But there we go.

We want the overtime, we do the hours!

~≈Â≈~

Going totally off the subject of knackered?

I’m not a big one for video games.   Bar the odd casual game: things like Tetris and Pacman.

But I’m very aware that there’s all sorts of gamers and games.

And that sometimes?

People like to watch.

Which is why the BBC’s decided to stream an e-sports tournament on BBC3.

Frankly, it’s not my sort of thing.

But … ?

I’ll be honest, I have no idea how televised sports work.

But hope that, internationally, the BBC can make some cash off of it.

And/or get more people logging onto BBC3.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 29-7-2016: Boy Scouts Out Camping

Oh, I HATE that when it happens!

I had to take the day off, ill, yesterday!

And guess what … ?

With a set of playing up guts!

Frankly?

Frankly, I managed to drag my ageing carcass into town: so I could make a much needed doctors appointment.

AND?

Well, given that I’ve felt this week’s set of flare-ups were due to the cooking oil I’ve been using?

I got a different brand: which seems to have helped with last’s dinner.

~≈Ê≈~

Oh, JUST as a quick additional thought, here?

I mentioned, on Wednesday Weekly Teaser, that the Gazette had dropped the Teaser for the week: at least the print version.

Disappointing, obviously.

Which got me complaining to the Editor, Alan.

According to him?

It and the letters page, got replaced at the last minute: to make way for an advert.

And MAY not be featured as frequently.

Something I’ve already told them may be a bad idea.

I’m already thinking I should get in touch with the Brentwood Recorder, to see if they need a quiz.

Wish me luck on that front.

And if you’d like to ask the Brentwood Gazette’s editor about the Teaser?

Feel free to get in touch with him: he’s Alan Woods, on alan.woods@gazettenews.co.uk.   (You can also use editorial@gazettenews.co.uk.)
