Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1/4/2018 — April Fool’s Day!

1st April, 2018.

Yes, we do … just a bit …

Feel silly, that is …

Well …

Especially when you consider that’s it’s ALSO Easter Sunday … and, as ever, I’ve done nothing especially special — Teaser wise — for it.

Still … it could’ve bee worse.

I could’ve worn a silly hat!

On other fronts … ?

On other fronts, you’ll remember I mentioned — yesterday — that I’d updated to macOS 10·13·4.

Apparently, one of the things built into that update?

Was the ability to plug in an external graphics card.

Hmmm …

I know that’s something that’s aimed at high games designers: but it’s ALSO something I’d not mind.

I can possibly find a use for that: being able to plug a seriously BIG extra monitor could come in handy …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 26-9-2016

Yay …

I’ve got another interview, today!

And another one on Wednesday!

But you already knew that, didn’t you … ?

Frankly?

Frankly, I’m looking forward to both.

But right here, and now?

Right here and now, I’ve got the feeling that I’m in for the long, slow slog.

Most of the interviews I’ve had?   Have been as a result of the initial rush of running around, posting CVs through doors.

That’s slowing down: money’s obviously shorter than it was.

Right now?

‘Slog,’ is about the size of it.

Which reminds me …

A couple of potential employers — Sainsburys and Aldi are the two big offenders, off the top of my head — use various shades of online testing.

Those two spring to mind as they use similar ones.

Basically?   They give you four options: you have to pick the best choice, and the worst.

Apparently?

I did badly on both: and got told I’d not be taken through to the next stage: that of an interview.

I can understand why companies do it: they want to filter out no hopers.

But … ?

Frankly, it’s depressing: and gets me wondering if there’s anywhere online I can practice these things.

The Daily Teaser — 26-9-2015

Well, THAT’S an embarrassment … !

Doubly so, in fact … !

Not only have I not made a slideshow for today’s Teaser — something I’ve done religiously for year — but I’ve found out what’s caused the problem with my monitor: after buying a new one … !

First off, the slideshow … ?   Sorry about that, but I managed to miss making it, in the midst of doing a large batch of them.

The other embarrassment … ?   The monitor?   Remember me saying, yesterday, that I was getting some weird ghosting?   Static … ?

Turns out it was caused by interference from an internal drive that I have: one plugged into an enclosure, that I’m intent on using as overspill storage.

Realising that turning the thing off, when I’m not using it, means no static on my second monitor is a good thing.   It’s just a  shame I realised that after I’ve gone and bought a new one.

Cie la vie!

Now, before I move on … ?   Does anyone need a new monitor … ?

The Daily Teaser — 26-9-2014

Hmmm …

Has anyone out there got an Apple TV … ?

You know, the little set-top box Apple make?   You plug the thing into your TV, and it let’s you stream content from your computer: or from the ’Net, or an iOS device.

I’ve got one of the 3rd generation ones: or Revision A 3rd generation ones, and found it very handy.   If you’re out of a job, a good range of something to watch comes in handy.

Mine is working acceptable well.

But, for some reason … ?

Is refusing to download and install the most recent update.

That’s … not frustrating: as the things working well, as it stands.

But it’s mildy annoying.

And leaves me wondering whether it’s something to do with Apple’s other recent troubles.
