Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-1-2026 — Na-Na Na-Na Na-Na Na-Na Na-Na Na-Na Batman!
 (Ten Questions)

12th January, 2026: Batman.

Right, then: today’s Monday: so I’m off to my weight loss group.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed: and hoping I’ve lost a little.

Here’s hoping!

In other news?

My nephew, Jude, was over, yesterday.

No pizzas were injured in the process.

But videos were uploaded.

The second one, the FIFA one?

Had an issue: as one of the sounds effects Jude used for it, refused to transcode.

And thus, caused the rendering process to hang.

The solution was simple.

Force quit iMovie, dump the incomplete video, re-open iMovie and re-export the project: after removing the offending effect.

Job done: the resulting video is now the second of the two I’ve embedded, here.

Quite why the effect played up?

I really don’t know.

As a final thought … ?

I caught this news-piece on The Register, yesterday.

One that tells us the European Commission — the European Union’s highest decision making body — is encouraging the use of more open source software.

If I’ve read the piece, correctly, that’s partly on the grounds of cost: the commission thinks there’s long term savings to be had.

But it also thinks there’s digital sovereignty issues.

In other words that the EU’s not in charge of their technology: US companies are.

I’ve long felt have European companies making software for use by European countries would be a good thing.

I’ve felt that, for as long as I’ve felt British software companies making software for the people and government of the UK, is a good thing.

I can only hope Brussels persuades EU members — and the EU’s apparatchik — to adopt more open source software.

Just as I hope the UK does.

It can only be a good thing.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th January, 2025.

12th January, 2025.

It’s officially official: it’s Sunday!

And … ?

The day after I managed to batch cook some stew.

Stupidly, though … ?

I forgot to include the celery I’d bought for it!

If anyone needs a packet, they’d be welcome to it!

We know there’s wildfires in Los Angeles, at the moment.

And we’re sympathetic to those who’ve lost lives and homes.

What’s strange for me … ?

Is simply the fact that the swish LA suburb of Brentwood is being threatened: and under evacuation orders.

Which is odd to me.

Not “Gosh, wildfires, that’s weird”.

No: it’s just the simple coincidence that seems odd.

I live in the Essex town of Brentwood.

Where we’re getting sub-zero temperatures …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th January 2024.

12th January, 2024.

Yay!

It’s Friday!

Which, frankly … ?

Is yet another day of the week!

Exciting Fridays are usually something that happen to other people.

Personally?

I’ll be writing quizzes, possibly watching a movie …

And maybe seeing what happens.

~≈ß≈~

One thing I do know I’d love to do … ?

Is buy the latest box set of classic Doctor Who adventures.

It seems the latest — series 15 — is now available for pre-order on Amazon.

I’ll have to think about saving up for that!

Whilst enjoying the trailer: Louise Jameson’s back as Leela!

West Side Story (2021) — A Review

12th January, 2023.

Right.

It’s a Thursday night.

And, frankly?

I have a quandary.

Or possibly a problem.

I’m writing this on an evening with little to do.

Bar fret.

And wonder what to watch.

Frankly?   I’m thinking the Spielberg cut of West Side Story looks attractive.

As does the documentary about 1996 made for TV, Dr Who movie: imaginatively named Dr Who Am I.

Or do I start watching the third season of Apple TV+’s For All Mankind?

Before the start of Picard’s third series, in February?

At any rate?

I’m going to watch something, tonight: and tell you about it, tomorrow night.

Here’s hoping I make my mind up.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th January 2023

12th January, 2023.

Yes: it’s true.

It’s Thursday.

And?   I’m a little concerned: as I’ve not had this month’s Cost of Living Voucher.

The sooner that — and the £20 voucher I’m expecting from the ONS — gets here?

The happier I’ll be.

Did I mention I’ve got a man up my back passage?

Maybe I should clarify that.

Right night one of my neighbours — on the top floor of the building — need their boiler replacing.

So?

There’s a scaffolder out the back, putting up scaffolding.

Heigh-ho!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th January, 2022

12th January, 2022.

I have to say, I think I’ve got a quiet day ahead.

One where I don’t have to tramp up to the surgery, have a phone or video meeting, have to head for Chelmsford …

Or discuss my weight with someone.

Well … not until tomorrow, anyway.

That might just give me a chance to — metaphorically — put my feet up.

And possibly watch a movie.

We’ll have to see.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-1-2021: Dynasty

12th January, 2021

I’ve got to admit, Britain’s undergoing a spate of weather, at the moment.

Brentwood, my home town … ?

Has rain.

I know that for a fact, because I can hear the sloshing noise of cars going past.

The only upside … ?

It’s comparatively warm.

At least … warmer than Finland!

~≈🌧≈~

Oh, about the US … ?

We know that President Elect Biden is due to be sworn in, next Wednesday.

Which is worrying me.

Given the situation in the US, I’m half expecting someone to take a potshot at Mr Biden.

I’m not the only one who’s worried, from what I can see.

The FBI have warned — on much better evidence than I could get hold of — about the potential of armed protests over the weekend.

Armed ones.

Outside every state capitol.

I’m assuming some of the more right wing protestors will tell us these are going to be peaceful protests.

I can’t see how: if protesters are armed.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-1-2020: All in the Family.

12th January, 2020

Hmmm …

I’ve got an interview, tomorrow.

And — on Friday just gone — went to the Job Centre to arrange for ticket money.

I got told it would be in my account, by close of play on Friday.

It’s still not there, this morning.

I’m …

I’ll be honest, I’ll be having another look, tomorrow morning.

And raising merry hell if it’s not there …

~≈†≈~

Just as a thought … ?

I managed to catch a film, last night: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children!

Which isn’t too bad: although it could’ve been better.

But … ?

Frankly, I’m thinking I should explore a few more films and TV shows: assuming I’m in the right mood.

Frankly?

Messiah looks interesting.   As does The Mandalorian and For All Mankind.

We’ll haver to see.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12th January, 2018

You know, ever-so-often?

I get the urge to actually look around and see what’s happening.

And, as a result?

I occasionally see a sign.

Like the one around the corner.

Near me, there’s a road called Saint James Road.

And, on the corner, there’s a patch of land that’s been the subject of a lot of debate, over the past few decade.

It’s had — with a lot of opposition from residents, myself included* — planning approval for various shades of flats, offices or assorted mixed developments.

As I recall, the most recent approval, was a couple of years ago.   Indeed, building — or, at least, the groundwork — had started in the past few months.

Last night?   I finally noticed the sign on what’s supposed to be a building site.

It seems the site is to be sold.

Quite what any new developers will do with it?

I don’t know.

But think we’re going to get a lot more arguments.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 12-1-2017

It has to be said, I had the night off, last night.

And am back to work, tonight.

In the middle of all that … ?

In the middle of all that, I know I managed to not watch a film.

Yes, I know: both Debbi and Olga have been waving suggestions at me for some time.   All of which sound good.

But found myself in a funny old mood, last night.

Instead … ?

I found myself hankering after … a TV show!

And managed to catch the first episode of series one of Mr Robot: something I’ve had in my collection for a while.

Personally?

I’m glad I did.

That pilot episode was quite something to see.
