I was online, yesterday.

Which you’d possibly guessed.

I was online, after posting the day’s Teaser: trying to answer a question on Quora.

When I got this message;

Quite what happened there?

I didn’t know.

But I was getting the same sort of message from X, DownDetector, and a few other sites.

I was getting those messages from those sites in every browser on my computer.

And getting them after restarting my computer, twice, and restarting my router.

What I did find, after checking with the BBC’s news site?

Was that Cloudflare, the infrastructure provider the sites used to connect to the ’net, was having issues.

Something known as a configuration file had stopped working correctly: and was causing problems with Cloudflare’s security checks.

And refusing to connect people as a result.

The panic is now officially over.

Until the next time this happens … …

Just as a thought … ?

You’re probably very aware the opening episodes of The War Between the Land and the Sea is due to start airing on the 7th December: at least, start airing in the UK, on 7th December.

The BBC have since announced that an edited version of The Sea Devils — the Dr Who story that introduced the creatures — will also air on the 7th.

Yes, I am going to watch that.

But it’ll probably go on the back burner.

It’s officially Tuesday: and … ?

I’m officially helping my mum drop a batch of electronic waste at the local tip.

It’s been a while since I’ve gone, I know that.

So it’s been mildly surprising to find you now need an appointment.

An appointment … on a day that’s looking cold, wet, and increasingly nasty.

Something that — up until now — he’s denied to them.

Russia, of course, is doing a lot of sabre rattling.

What get’s me?

Is the simple fact America’s been happy to provide the missiles … whilst, effectively, telling Ukraine “You can’t use them.”

It seems counter-intuitive.

Yep: stuff’s happening … 

Firstly?   I’m going to thank Matt, over on Facebook.

He was as good as his word, and managed to drop off an old monitor to me, last night.

Something I’ve been wanting to use for my old Mac mini, the one I nicknamed Bruce, for a while now.

The thing works.

It’s just a shame I get the dreaded folder/question mark symbol that tells me the hard drive’s got issues!

It may just mean I need to do a lot of jumping about to see what I can do about it: or, at least, whether I can get hold of a powered optical drive, to reinstall the operating system.

It’s not why I’m busy, today.

I’ve got to get hold of kidney beans, today: and some chopped tomatoes.

I’m planning to make chilli con carne, at some point.

I got everything, yesterday.

Bar chopped tomatoes and kidney beans!

I’ve got to do that, after eleven today.

First off?   My landlord’s pest controller’s due at ten.

AND I’ve got a phone meeting with the Job Centre: about a mandatory scheme they want to do.

THEN I have to buy the beans and tomatoes: and be back by three.

When Apple’s due to phone about my MAIN Mac’s inability to announce the time … !

The Today Programme’s interviewing various talking heads: about the lack of staff in the NHS.

Frankly?

Rejoining the EU — so we can hire/rehire all of the medical staff whose qualifications we used to recognise, only a few short years ago — seems like a bloody good idea.

Right, it’s official the case: I’m expecting deliveries, today.

A couple of bits courtesy of Amazon: or, at least, the Office of National Statistics.

I volunteer for their Covid 19 testing program: and get an Amazon voucher, as a thank you.

So, those are due, today … 

I’m also expecting a laptop.

I’m due to start a computer literacy course, next week, have the assessment, tomorrow … 

So my landlords are loaning me a Windows based laptop: it’s due, today.

I also know I’ve got to put up some medication, today.

I just hope I can get to town and, in time!

You’ll remember an old friend, Phil, died a few days ago … ?

I sent his widow a condolence card.

You have to, don’t you?   My sadness was nowhere near his immediate family’s … but needed expressing.

As did my sympathies: and the usual offers of help one makes at these times.

It has to be said, she sent a reply, bless her.

Not something I was expecting, to be honest: but nice to get.

Nice … and heartbreaking.

It was possibly the saddest thing I think I’ve read in years.

But also the happiest.

Phil, it seems, had a good, full and happy life: even if it was drastically shortened.

What can I say, bar that?

It’s true: I had an interview, yesterday!

At a local phone shop.

I thought it went fairly well: although I though I should have mentioned extended warranties in the role playing* section, rather than the case I did discuss.

However?

The decision’s ultimately not down to me: much as I’d like to get the job …

While I was prepping various bits and bobs for the episode of Mr Robot I caught, last night?

I got a call from another potential employer, last night.

I’ve got another interview on Monday …

Google’s released its Stadia games streaming service, today.

Along side the micro console it can be played on.

Personally?

I wouldn’t mind a go at that: and think it possibly could be a good birthday or Christmas present for my nephew.

Possibly.

Unlike Netflix, you don’t pay a subscription for the service, and get access to a lot of free games.

You pay a subscription … and, with a basic subscription, have to pay extra for games.

Frankly?

I don’t know if that’s going to generate big sales for Google.

Yep: it’s a Monday: which means it’s another day, gloriously job hunting.

Where I’m not, you know … thinking about job hunting.

Or trying to access the internet — here or at Brentwood Library — so that I can, you know

Right at the moment, I do know I’m worrying about the basics: food, gas, electricity, what have you.

Which, granted, wasn’t necessarily the strongest episode: but still one that was rather good.

Oh, well, that’s THAT done … 

I was working last night: which is all well and good: and gets me paid.

It also meant I managed to avoid watching the biennial Children in Need charity telethon on BBC1, last night.

Which I’m grateful for, actually.

The fundraiser brings in a lot of cash for the charities it serves.

But the mix of sketches, demands for money, songs, more demands for money, jokes, some more demands for money, explanations of where the money’s going, all wrapped up in demands for money.

The appeals, and the comedy?   Usually get a bit tedious.

The only thing that does grab my attention about the whole shebang?

Is the simple fact it usually airs a clip from the upcoming Dr Who Christmas special: as it’s done, this year.

All I CAN say?   Is “Thank Heavens for Youtube … !”
