Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9th April 2026.

9th April, 2026.

Despite what everyone says, there isn’t a war going on.

No, really, there’s not.

Whatever it is that’s going on between the US  and Israel on the one side, and Iran and Lebanon on the other, isn’t a war.

As Old Peculiar regular, and recovering lawyer, Debbi Mack, will remind us?

Wars have rules.

Or, at least, something that vaguely resembles legal standing.

The current situation?

Isn’t a war: more, as President Putin put it, a ‘special military operation’.

Whether it’s a war, or not, apparently, a two week ceasefire has been arranged.

One that’s lasted for about ten minutes, if I’ve understood things correctly.

I have to ask … how naïve do we have to be, to not get cynical, to not laugh, when someone uses the word ‘ceasefire’?

A ceasefire is a very good example of a thing that doesn’t work.

Laughing, in between a ceasefire’s declaration, and its collapse?

Is the only response to its use.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9-4-2025 — Paul Robeson.

9th April, 2025: Paul Robeson.

Right then …

Yesterday, I officially had a visit from an occupational therapist: from Essex County Council.

They were very efficient: and, hopefully, will be able to help with the cupboard situation.

And — possibly — help with some deep cleaning.

It was also — on a personal front — something of a pleasure.

Turns out the therapist was a bit of a Mac fan!

~≈🍎≈~

On other fronts?

It’s something of a busy week.

As I have a meeting with my Job centre case worker, today.

Thankfully, by video!

That’s a lot easier on my knees!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9th April, 2024.

9th April, 2024.

It’s official: it’s Tuesday.

And I’ll possibly turn the radio off, at some point.

There’s only so much of the Today programme a body can deal with!

At any rate … ?

I — hopefully — will be looking after my nephew, this afternoon.

If I know Jude … ?

There’s a possibility of chicken nuggets: and further adventures of Mikey the rabbit!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9th April 2023.

9th April, 2023.

It’s Easter Sunday.

And frankly?

It’s a time for … well … avoiding chocolate, if you’re a type two diabetic.

Which is a shame: I’m found of the odd Yorkie Bar.

But there you go!

At any rate … ?

I’ve got the radio off: as today’s Sunday service is a bit too High Anglican for my taste.

Instead … ?

I’ve got some Dread Zeppelin.

Elvis-impersonating, reggae-tinged, versions of Led Zeppelin tunes match my mood far more closely …

~≈🪇≈~

At any rate … ?

It’s the day after I posted my review of ‘Surrender’: the eighth episode of Star Trek Picard’s third and final series.

I hope you enjoy it.

Saturday, 9 April 2022

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9th April, 2022.

9th April, 2022.

Yes: it’s Saturday.

And I suspect that I’m going to be mildly bored.

Or, at least, twiddling my thumbs.

I’ve had a busy week: so a Saturday where nothing’s happening — bar writing quizzes and finishing of a review — seems …

Well, par for the course …

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9th April, 2021.

9th April, 2021.

It’s officially the case … that I’m thinking about watching a movie, tonight.

Thinking about it!

I might not: I might just end up reading a book, again.

Frankly, The Lathe of Heaven is coming to a climax: and Johnny Alpha’s JUST made sure the incredibly evil Sadan The Demon Maker can no longer cause problems!

It’s amazing what you can do with a second hand, lead lined, nuclear fall out shelter.

~≈Ê≈~

Did I mention I had a phone call, yesterday?

I shouldn’t’ve done: as I actually had two.

One from my new Job Centre case worker.

Which went well, although she wanted to put me on a Work and Health scheme, similar to the one I’m already on.

I think my previous case worker should maybe have added that to my notes!

The other call?   Was from O2: my mobile phone provider.

To be frank?   I was angling for more compensation: given that the local mobile phone mast is STILL not up.

I had no luck.

O2 are taking the line that they’ve taken every step they can to restore normal service.

And that they can do no more, until Brentwood Council approves their planning applications.

Hmmm …

~≈Ê≈~

Just as a final thought?

I’ve just heard on the Today programme, that Laurie Anderson’s to re-release her seminal Big Science LP.

Cue the music … !

Star Trek Picard — Series 1 Episode 10 — Et in Arcadia Ego, Part 2 — A Review

9th April, 2020.

You know, I think I’ve just got the Clap …

I’m being very metaphorical, here, I should add!

For the past few weeks, the idea of clapping — at 8 o’clock on a Thursday evening — to show ones appreciation for the keyworkers of the National Health Service.

I have to admit to feeling a little bit uncomfortable about it, myself.

Yes: it’s a nice gesture: one that shows our support for a service that is Britain’s finest.

But I can’t help but think it’s exactly that: a gesture.

One we don’t do under normal circumstances, when, maybe, we should.

And a gesture that should be replaced.

By proper funding for their places of work, a more than generous pay-rise for still living staff, good pensions …

And equally good arrangements for the families of NHS staff who’ve died as a result of Covid-19.

~≈®≈~

All this happened of course, just as I was sitting down in front of the TV.

Gesture, or otherwise?

The least I could do was hold on for five minutes, whilst the applause was going on.

Before I watch the last episode of Star Trek Picard, series one …

9th April, 2020.

You know …

Stuff occurs …

It usually does!

Some of the stuff that occurs?

Is yours truly, browsing the ’net.

Late at night.

And managed to find a news piece — from Macworld, no less — telling us that people were having issues with macOS 10.15.4 Catalina.

Something I can believe: I think Catalina’s been having issues ever since it was released.

The last kernel panic I saw, was in February!

So that should tell you something.

At any rate, macOS 10.15.4 has been causing issues, in and of itself.

Enough that Apple’s released a supplemental patch, today.

Am I surprised?

Nope!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9th April, 2019

9th April, 2019.

Yep: it’s going to be a long, quiet day, today.

One where I’ve actually got little to do.

I’ll manage: of course I will.

But the day I find a job?

The day I get the good news I’ve been hired for something?

Can’t come a day too soon!

~≈§≈~

Something that DID put a make yesterday a bit better: and got a mention in last night’s Westworld review?

Remember me mentioning that I had a visit for a repairman due, to sort my cupboard door out?

Due between eight and one?

He actually turned up any quarter past nine: just as I was finishing yesterday’s post, and publishing on line.

And had the job done, in side of ten minutes.

AND rehung the cupboard doors under my kitchen sink.

That went well!

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9th April, 2018

9th April, 2018.

Yep: I’ve officially got some thing of a big day ahead of me.

And, wouldn’t you know it?

My innards are playing up!

They should — hopefully — be able to persuade them to calm down: in order to get on with my day.

Right now?

Right now, I’ve an appointment, today: at Basildon Hospital.

For a CT scan, to make sure of my arterial function.   The veins and arteries going into and out of my heart.

I’m …

Nervous: I’ve never actually had this sort of scan, although I’ve seen something of what happens on TV.

Here’s hoping it goes well.   I may just take a book.

Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 9-4-2017

Oh, well, that’s a result …

I went to work, yesterday.   And I’m back, again, today.

All good.

Ever better, though?

Was the phone call I got on the way to work.

From the shop repairing my sister’s laptop.

Seems they’ve managed to replace the graphics card: both ahead of the predicted time, and on budget.

So Ruth and I won’t get charged any extra.

All I have to do now?

Is pick the thing up.

Oh …

And talk my sister into buying some sort of back up solution …

The Daily Teaser — 9-4-2016

You know, I got home, last night.

Did my usual thing of going to bed …

And did my equally usual thing of waking up, this morning.

And found out that that the Reverand Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, is a bastard.

No, literally.   It turns out that his reverence had a family best described as confused. His mother had an affair with a chap she worked with: who turned out to be the last Private Secretary to Winston Churchill.

~≈†≈~

Oh, something else I’ve found out … ?

Or seen?

Is the new trailer for Rogue One, the Star Wars spin-off movie due out in December of this year?

Stars Felicity Jones as main character, Jyn Erso.

Who turns out to have been playing Emma Grundy in The Archers for many years.

Amazing what you find out, listening to Radio Four.

Small Town Murder Songs — A Review: Blood, Guts and Hillbilly Noir …

9th April, 2013.

OK …

I’m going to be frank, here.

Or, at the very least, be honest enough to tell you I’ve rented a film from iTunes, tonight.

The 2010, Ed Gass-Donnelly directed, Small Town Murder Songs.

As tired As I am, after a marathon session of Teaser slideshow assembly, and the consequent late night … ?

I thought that making a start — at the very least — on the write up for it would be doing the film a courtesy.

Or, at least, let my regular readers know I’ve found something interesting.

Back in the morning … !
