The Babadook: Wow!

Do you believe the hype?

No, that’s a fairly honest question, there.

Do you believe that, if you hear something getting talked about — very favourably — that it’s something you should have a look at?

Or are you, like me, who’s prepared to take the hype with a pinch or two of salt?

I think that, at my age, a pinch of salt is usually worth having.

Sometimes, though … ?

Sometimes, it turns out favourable hype — or favourable word-of-mouth — turns out to be justified.

The film I’ve just sat and watched, tonight?

Was the 2014, Jennifer Kent directed film, The Babadook.

And yes … 

‘Wow’ is justified.   I think we can believe the hype about The Babadook.

The Daily Teaser — 2-3-2015

You know, I’m glad I spent most of yesterday — at least, when I wasn’t working — indoors.

Tidying, mostly.

But also … humping furniture around … !

Basically, the second-hand Mac Pro I bought, last year, isn’t wi-fi capable: so I’d had it on a dining room table, near to the router.

Which got a bit … cramped.

So, yesterday … ?   Yesterday, I manage to move a spare set of mini-shelves I’d had for years.

Handily … ?   Handily, that’s freed up a bit of space.

But, boy … did I find a lot of dust … !

But sleep feels … tempting …

I’ll be honest … ?

I had a nice quiet night in, last night.

In … making videos … !

And actually got finished at about one in the morning.

Personally … ?   Personally, I hope they get some appreciation.

There’s a lot of effort gone into them …

The Daily Teaser — 28-2-2015

You know, THAT’s … upsetting … !

When I was young, the BBC only showed two science fiction shows.

Dr Who was one.

And, in between Dr Who seasons?   They’d show the original version of Star Trek.

I remain a lifelong Dr Who fan as a result.   And someone who’s thoroughly enjoyed Star Trek, ever since watching the repeats growing up in the 1970s and 80s.

So yesterday’s news — that actor, Leonard Nimoy, who’d played Commander Spock — was both saddening … and something I found genuinely upsetting.

After all … the man who played the one visibly alien — and friendly alien, although I’m sure Spock would raise an eyebrow at the word — was iconic: and helped make both the role, the series, and the genre, the winning things they are, today.

RIP, Leonard Nimoy.

Earth is a lesser place, after your death.

So getting news, today, that Leonard Nimoy, the actor who played Spock, has died … ?

Is saddening to hear.
