Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 2nd September, 2020.

2nd September, 2020.

Right …

It’s official: I have another meeting, today.

With my temporary case worker* at the Job Centre: as my regular case worker is on holiday.

I messaged them, yesterday, to find out more about a Department of Work and Pensions scheme called the Flexible Support Fund.

That — in theory — I could use to by a laptop.

I can also see if putting in some sort of complaint about the Shaw Trust would be appropriate.

Or doable …

We’ll just have to see.

~≈É≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor†, Olga‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 2nd September, 1965, saw the birth of boxer, Lennox Lewis.   He was a three times champion in which weight class: flyweight, welterweight or heavyweight?
Q2) 2nd September, 1838, .saw the birth of Liliʻuokalani: the last monarch of where?
Q3) 2nd September, 1945, saw Japan unconditionally surrender to Allied forces.   This saw the end of which war?
Q4) 2nd September, 1912, saw Arthur Eldred become the USA’s first Eagle Scout.   How many Merit Badges did he have to earn to do so?
Q5) Finally … ?   2nd September, 1901, saw who say “Speak softly, and carry a big stick.”?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) The invasion that started World War 2 occurred on 1st September of which year?
A1) 1939.
Q2) 1st September, 1960, saw the British Government announce that what would be allowed to open in 1961: brothels, betting shops or casinos?
Q3) 1st September, 1939 saw Hitler order the mass extermination of the mentally ill.   And who else: Jewish people, Romani or the disabled?
A3) The disabled.   (Apparently, it was seen as a mercy killing.)
Q4) Uzbekistan declared itself independent from the USSR: on 1st September, 1991.   What’s the capital of Uzbekistan?
A4) Tashkent.
Q5) Finally … ?   1st September, 1896, saw the birth of A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.   What was the name of the religious group he founded in 1966?
A5) They’re informally known as the Hare Krishnas: but their full name is the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.
Here’s a thought …
“I always insist on my jeans being ironed. Is that a problem?”
Jimmy Connors, born September 2, 1952.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I’ve got two regular case workers.   One at the Job Centre: who seems genuinely on the ball.   The other is on the Shaw Trust’s Health and Work Programme … who seems equally on the ball … but seems to have access to less resources than the chap at the Job Centre.

†        Yeah, I’ve managed to get that corrected, Trevor!

‡        Yeah: Banks uses the idea in a lot of his Culture novels, Olga.   All Culture citizens have a thing called a neural lace, which lets them access Culture computer systems, amongst other things.   It’s a bit like the Universal Translator in Star Trek: you don’t notice it, until someone mentions it.
Maths … !   What can I tell you … ?   Except Jude’s Mum, my sister Ruth, specialises in teaching Maths.
Either way … ?   Elon’s pet pigª, and Maths are interesting subject.

^        Yeah, sorry, Debbi: I meant ten out of ten!   That’s what happens when you’re rushed!   At any rate, the whole Neuralink thing Musk’s promoting is interesting.   I’m just not going to be able to get rid of that image of Mr Sin, for a while.

ª        Apparently, she’s called Gertrude …

Q1) Heavyweight (we always seem to hear more about heavyweight champions than those in other categories. It seems unfair, not that I particularly like boxing, but it happens in all sports. Even in team sports, some positions get much more attention than others).
Q2) Hawaii
Q3) WWII
Q4) At least 21 (Michael Moore was an Eagle Scout! Some of the people on the list are quite surprising, others not so much.)
Q5) Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt. Now we have somebody who speaks loudly and threatens with a big stick…
Good luck with the meeting. I hope whatever you decide works...
