4th November, 2023: Tonga!

It’s now, officially, Saturday morning.

And … ?

I’ve very little planned: bar writing a quiz or two.

And, maybe, watching some TV.

I’ve been watching the Apple TV+ series, Silo, recently: and, while I’m not reviewing it — I’m heading for a busy patch, with Dr Who anniversary stuff, and season four of For All Mankind, due up — I am enjoying it.

It’s beautifully designed, very well written, and — like Foundation and For All Mankind — beautifully designed.

Talking of TV?

You’re very aware it’s the sixtieth anniversary of Dr Who’s first broadcast.

And that, as a result?

Near enough every episode of the show — with a notable exception — are on the BBC’s iPlayer service.

An Unearthly Child is missing.

As is The Five(ish) Doctors Rebooted!

How DARE they!

I managed to catch Talking Doctor Who on Wednesday.

And thought you might be interested in my review.

Oh … you’ll be aware that I’m a Doctor Who fan: one keeping an eye on the sixtieth anniversary stuff.

I caught Talking Doctor Who: as you’ve worked out.

And very aware the BBC’s iPlayer service is showing the Tales of The TARDIS.

Omnibus editions of six classic Dr Who stories: with added intros and outros.

I have to say: those intros are rather good.

On other fronts?

There’s going to be a sketch in this year’s Children in Need telethon.

On top of that … ?

The Daleks — the first appearance of the iconic creatures — has been edited and colourised: and due for an iPlayer re-release on the 23rd November, itself.

That could be interesting.

1st November, 2023: Talking Doctor Who.

It’s officially Wednesday.

And, frankly?

I’m roasting a potato or two: in anticipation of dinner.

‘In anticipation of dinner’ … ?

That’s possibly a little too pretentious, even for me.

At any rate: I’m doing dinner: one that shouldn’t take too long.

As I want to catch Talking Doctor Who — on BBC Four — tonight.

Without having to worry too about how much time I’ve got.

Right … I now have new spectacles.

Or, at least, new computer spectacles: ones I use working at my computer.

Not that you’d notice.

They’re pretty much the same frames as the last ones.

I have an excuse: I was on a budget!

1st November, 2023.

Right … it’s the 1st November.

And?

The BBC’s introduced it’s new ‘Whoniverse’ branding.

Which is nice.

And … ?

Has its Tales of the TARDIS spin-off up and ready to go, on the iPlayer.

Quite what’s happening with international, or blu-ray, releases, I don’t know.

I also can’t see them on sites like Pirate Bay: and am wondering when or if they’ll show up, there.

In slightly more personal news … ?

I’m due one last pair of spectacles, today.

I’m — assuming I’ve got the diary entry, right! — due to pick them up, today … 

Hopefully?   They’ll fit!

Finally … ?

The BBC were reporting on a site — that it did not name* — that promoted suicide, and openly discussed methods for, committing suicide.

The BBC news pages now tell us that two internet service providers — Sky, and TalkTalk — have now blocked the site: customers just need to leave the standard filters on.

I think that’s a good thing.

But I’ve noticed a couple of things.

One?

My ISP, BT?   Don’t seem to have blocked the site: I can get through to it, in my default browser.

Two?

I can also get through to it, using TorBrowser: the one browser I know of that can get around all sorts of restrictions.

I can’t help but wonder how effective such blockages are …
