Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th July 2025

24th July, 2025.

It’s officially official: I went shopping, yesterday.

And … ?

I got everything I need.

Except washing up liquid.

There’s always something, isn’t there?

~≈🧆≈~

On the upside … ?

I’ve finished my reviews of Strange New Worlds’ second episode.

The episode’s got me wondering about Lieutenant Ortegas, I know that … !

~≈🖖≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum†and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s unthemed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Mary Queen of Scots was forced to abdicate on 24th July, 1567. She was replaced by her one year old son.   Who was he: James 6th and 1st, Charles 1st or Charles 2nd?

Q2)        Boris Johnson became Prime Minister on 24th July, 2019.   As a result of winning a what: a general election, leadership election or by-election?

Q3)        Writer, Robert Graves, was born on 24th July, 1895.   His Count Belisarius was about a general from where: the Byzantine Empire, the Chinese Empire or the British Empire?

Q4)        Jennifer Lopez was born on 24th July, 1969.   She dated a Hollywood star between 2002 and 2004, married him in 2022 and divorced him in 2025.   Dated, married and divorced whom?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Bluenose II launched on 24th July, 1963. It’s a what: racing car, sailing ship or locomotive?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Daniel Radcliffe was born on 23rd July, 1989.   He came to fame, playing which fictional wizard?
A1)        Harry Potter.

Q2)        Paul Wesley was born on 23rd July, 1982.   Who does he play in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds?
A2)        Captain James T. Kirk.

Q3)        NASA announced the discovery of Kepler-452b: on 23rd July, 2015.   The star the planet orbits, Kepler-452, is in which constellation?
A3)        Cygnus.

Q4)        Michael Wilding was born on 23rd July, 1912.   He made many films with who: Anna Neagle, Peter Cushing or Elizabeth Taylor?
A4)        Anna Neagle.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Marshal Pétain’s war trial started on 23rd July, 1945.   He’d been the leader of what was known as Vichy … where … ?
A5)        Vichy France.
Here’s a thought …
“The United States appear to be destined by Providence to plague America with misery in the name of liberty.”
Simón Bolívar, 24 July 1783 – 17 December 1830.
And a clue …

The next ten question set is about Galicia: it’s tomorrow.

Comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Strange New Worlds is worth a watch, Olga: it’s very good!   It’s a prequel to the original: so there’s enough familiar characters for many to feel comfortable.   James Kirk’s a minor character in this: so the Enterprise’s Captain is Kirk’s predecessor.
Ozzy will be a hard person to replace: he was quite a character!   As for Bruce Willis … ?   It’s a shame to hear what he’s going through: the last I heard, he’s seriously non-verbal.   I can’t help but think his death would be a mercy.   On form?   Moonlighting could be hysterical.

        Hello, Mum!

Ha!   Cinemas!   Cinemas, Debbi, aren’t as hard to get to as you’d think: there’s a couple in Romford that are near the train station, so they’re relatively accessible.   But buses to places?   The big companies hog the major routes.   Whilst the smaller companies find it hard to run the subsidised routes: there’s not enough money in it, even with local government help.   (Some of the really rural routes have one bus an hour.   Brentwood Station to the High Street?   There’s at least two buses every fifteen to twenty minutes.)
I believe the Digital ID thing is at the very early stages, at the moment: the stage where they’re discussing the blue-sky thinking needed, prior to discussing about proposed meetings in the run up to further possible discussion about forming a committee to study ideas …
I also believe this.   Being in a position to choose to use a smart phone is nice: especially if you have other ways of accessing online services.
But being forced to use a smart phone you can’t use?   That you have no idea how to switch on?   Is like giving a dyslexic a pencil and paper and asking them to write their address down.

Q4) Ben Affleck

I remember Moonlighting with affection. He could play characters with a sense of humour, that's for sure.
Oh, about the digital ID, there is a version here, but after trying to use it for certain things (and it is a bit tricky to get there), I discovered that it is not valid for some stuff in any case. Here we have the physical ID everybody must have, but these days, with everything being done online, it is not so easy to do certain things. And yes, a lot of people will never be able to use it, for a variety of reasons. (When I got my new ID when I moved here, they gave me something that was supposed to be a certificate you could use online, but, at the time, you needed to have one of those card readers on your computer...)
