Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 1-6-2024 — Dorset

1st June, 2024: Dorset.

Right then: it’s Saturday!

Which would normally mean frantically running around like a wild thing.

But instead?   This week, as others?

Means I’m going to be complaining about a late night: after reviewing the last ever episode of Star Trek Discovery.

Quite why it took forty-five minutes to upload?

I really don’t know!

~≈Ω≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        1st June is the traditional day of Dorset: marking the county’s patron saint.   Who is that saint: Saint George, Saint Wite or Saint Sithney?

Q10)        Finally … ?   Portland Bill is in Dorset.   It’s famous for its three what: football teams, lighthouses or biscuits?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

From The Wife a-lost, from Poems of Rural Life in the Dorset Dialect (1879), by William Barnes.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

Cheers, Olga.   Given it didn’t trigger Autocorrect, or a red line?   That means ‘Puigdemont’ lodged itself in my iMac’s onboard dictionary: and transferred over when I set up the mini.
The Spanish Judiciary sounds as much of a mess as the USA’s: their appointments can be murder, as well.   I don’t know that the UK’s is any better, though: it just manages to keep the appointment system, quiet!   (By the sound of things?   Spain’s right-wing politicians live by the phrase “Do what we say, not what we do”.)

‡        Battleships and a role player game are very different, Debbi: it’s like comparing chess to football!   But, yes: the fact GURPS The Prisoner was adaptable, made the source book very useful!
Actually, the GURPS range were very well known.   The GURPS Discworld game was co-written by Sir Terry, himself: he’s been a Dungeons and Dragons referee, many years previously.
Then there was GURPS Cyberpunk.   I’m sure I’ve mentioned it before.   Steve Jackson Games, the game’s makers, got raided by the Secret Service, who were convinced GURPS Cyberpunk was a genuine Crackers handbook.   Needless to say, sales went through the roof!
(Actually, mixing genres came up in a short story collection I read, many years ago: called Temps.   It’s about a British league of superheroes … working for a Government department called the Department of Paranormal Resources.   The head honcho was a wizard who’d been to Eton, then Oxbridge.)

You're right about the judiciary here., Paul. Sorry, but they asked me to cover an event some ONG organisations have set up today in conjunction with a fair organised by the local shops, so it's all go. I hope to have a bit more time to join in tomorrow.

I realize they're quite different. Role playing games, if I understand correctly, are more about the adventure, not winning or losing. There can be bad guys, I guess, but not competing so much as overcoming them? I'm just guessing based on what little I know about RPGs. At least, I know what RPGs are. :)

1. Saint Wite
2. the English Channel
3. Dorchester
4. Bournemouth
5. Kent
6. Norfolk
7. 2019
8. the First World War
8, biscuit
10. lighthouses

Then, there are single-player RPGs and multi-player RPGs. I think. :)

Dual-player RPGs?
