Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5-11-2024 — The Gunpowder Plot

5th November, 2024: The Gunpowder Plot!

It’s officially official: I have a busy morning, today!

I’m due a phone appointment with my GP.

And the washing machine is due to be installed, today: around 12, 12:30.

Hopefully?

They won’t clash!

Oh, it’s election day in the US.

Frankly?

I’m hoping Donald Trump doesn’t win: outside of the fact I find the man objectionable, I feel he’s no friend of the United Kingdom’s.

And I’ve heard some of his campaign rally statements.

They strike me as the sort of empty statement that Orwell would steal and use in 1984.

One that stuck in my mind?

Was Trump’s repeated statement that he’s going to end inflation.

I’m no economist … but, as far as I know, that’s an impossible job.

Trump … is making empty promises that make some of Big Brother’s statements sound reasonable …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everybody scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        The Gunpowder Plot was foiled on 5th November. Of which year: 1604, 1605 or 1606?

Q2)        It was foiled when who was arrested: Robert Catesby, Robert Wintour or Guy Fawkes?

Q3)        The arrested man was trying to blow up where: the House of Lords, Saint Paul’s Cathedral or Buckingham Palace?

Q4)        The criminal — and his co-conspirators — was trying to kill the then king of England. Who was that king?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The explosion was supposed to occur during what: a Royal Wedding, the State Opening of Parliament or the Coronation?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        4th November, 1956, saw the USSR invade where: Hungary, East Germany or Poland?
A1)        Hungary.

Q2)        4th November is the feast day of Saint Emeric of Hungary.   Traditionally, he’s believed to have been killed, hunting what: a boar, a fox or a stag?
A2)        A boar.

Q3)        La Belle Otero was born on 4th November, 1868.   She was a noted actress from where: Portugal, Spain or San Marino?
A3)        Spain. (She reached the grand old age of ninety-six: I’ll have what’s she’s having!)

Q4)        Ken Hensley died on 4th November, 2020.   He was a member of which band: Iron Maiden, Uriah Heep or Black Sabbath?
A4)        Uriah Heep.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The last armed uprising in one country of the UK, took place on 4th November, 1839.   Where: England, Ireland, Wales or Scotland?
A5)        Wales.
Here’s a quote …
“Hearing that the plot had been discovered, most of the conspirators fled from London while trying to enlist support along the way.”
From the Wikipedia entry on the plot.
A Lulu song …

And a rocket-powered earworm …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        La Belle certainly had a long life, Olga.   She was 96 when she died: that}s a very good innings!
I don’t know if the UK’s royals do anything similar: donate to organisations like the Red Cross, that is.   I suspect that they — and the Spanish royals — have some sort of foundation that does these things on their behalf: and that they don’t advertise.   That’s a shame, that publicity could be useful for them in times like these.

        Hello, Mum!

I figured it might be, Debbi!   :D
