Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 20th February 2026

20th February, 2026.

It’s officially official: it’s pay day, today.

Or, at least, the day I receive my PIP, my Personal Independence Payment.

I would love to go get some shopping.

But … ?

I’m expecting an engineer to turn up, today, between eight and one.

He’s the chap who’s here to see to the communal aerial.

Hopefully, he’ll be here, soon: and able to do something, quickly.

Given what I think the issue is, he should just have to change a cable.

But I could be wrong.

~≈📺≈~

Right or wrong … ?

It’s annoying: for a couple of reasons.

One … ?

Under normal circumstances, I occasionally have to re-tune my TV, if the signal goes funny.

Under normal circumstances, I only need to do that, once every, what?

Every three or four weeks, or so.

At the moment?

I have to do it, every time I switch on the TV: or switch from the AppleTV signal, to the aerial signal.

A dozen times or more, since reporting the problem.

It’s frustrating.

More so, than you think, actually.

Usually, when writing these posts, I have the TV turned off.

It’s intrusive.

But, at the moment, I’ve got Radio Four on: and the TV on mute: because I don’t want to retune it, again..

That’s still loud enough to be distracting, however quiet it may be and however mild a distraction others may find it.

Frustrating?

You bet: it’s an itch I can’t scratch.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Megalosaurus was named on 20th February, 1824: by William Buckland.   The Megalosaurus is thought of as the world’s first non-avian what to be named?

Q2)        The act that set up the US post office, was signed by the then US President: on 20th February, 1792.   In other word, it was signed into law by whom?

Q3)        The Metropolitan Museum of Art opened on 20th February, 1872. In which east coast, US city?

Q4)        The first American to orbit did so on Friendship 7: on 20th February, 1962.   Who was that American: Alan Shepard Jr, John Glenn or Neil Armstrong?

Q5)        Finally … ?   20th February is the feast day of Saint Eleutherius of Tournai.   Where is Tournai: France, Belgium or Switzerland?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        19th February, 2021, saw Mya Thwe Thwe Khine become the first protestor to die.   In protests against a coup, where: Myanmar, China or Laos?
A1)        Myanmar.   (Her funeral, on the 21st, was attended by several thousand people.)

Q2)        19th February, 2001, saw an Essex abattoir quarantined: after a suspected case of what, was found?
A2)        Foot and mouth.

Q3)        The Treaty of London and Zürich was signed on 19th February, 1959.   It provisionally granted independence to where: Corsica, Cyprus or Sardinia?
A3)        Cyprus.   (Cypriot independence was finally proclaimed on 16th August, 1960.)

Q4)        Smokey Robinson was born on 19th February, 1940.   For many years, he was the frontman for which band: the Miracles, the Four Tops or the Supremes?
A4)        The Miracles.

Q5)        Finally … ?   19th February, 1945, saw American troops land on which island: Iwo Jima, Okinawa or Sarushima?
A5)        Iwo Jima.
Here’s a thought …
“There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs.”
Ansel Adams, February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984.
And a Nirvana song …

The next three ten question sets are on the 27th and 28th of February, and 1st of March: they’re about Pokémon, Andalusia and Nebraska.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

My grandma had one of those toilet rolls covers, Olga: with an ornamental figure on top.   Some sort of Edwardian little girl, if memory serves.   Quite what the thing would look like, as a hat …
And old friend used to knit: but never got the hang of crochet.   Sue’s a left-hander, like me, and could never find left-handed crochet hooks.
As for the TV?   The sooner the engineer gets here, the better … !

Can I suggest getting a pouffe, Debbi?   It sounds like you need to put your feet up!   (If I recall?   The late Roger Delgado claimed, several times, that the most memorable line he ever had was “Come in, and put your feet up on the Algerian pouffe”.   Which can be misinterpreted, I think … )

Right: it’s 10·03.

The engineer’s have just looked in to let me know the aerial is now working.

Apparently, it was a loose connection

Well, it sounds as if the repair was easy enough. I hope everything works all right now.
I might have told you before already, but tomorrow the radio station is at a book fair organised by the father of the president of the radio station, and I'll be talking to author, guests, and publishing companies from morning to night. I'll try to visit on Sunday, although I also have one of the monthly walks on Sunday, and it sets off from a place quite far from my home, so although I'll take the underground to get there, it will be quite a long activity altogether.

Glad to hear your aerial has been fixed.

I was laughing so hard at your remark about the pouffe, I could barely type this. :)
