Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 19th February, 2026.

19th February, 2026.

Yay!

Money’s turned up!

OK: ten pounds (£10) has turned up.

I bought a new toast, last week: ending up with a free one, as a result of Amazon not telling me there was a backlog on the cheaper one I’d ordered.

I’m not complaining, too much: Amazon’s good will gesture — a £10 gift card — turned into two gift cards.

Which, along side the refunded £4·99 gift from the last mistake Amazon made, meant I got a toaster worth £19·99 for free.

Complete with a warming rack, I should add.

All I had to do, after that … ?

Was wait for the associated cash refund.

That turned up, yesterday.

Which is handy timing.

I could do with a loaf.

Prices in Brentwood are ridiculous … !

On the down side … ?

I noticed, on Tuesday, that there seemed to be some minor issues with my TV.

Stuttering sounds and signal cutout, listening to Radio Four, for the most part.

It got worse, yesterday: more cutting out, and serious pixelation, watching the BBC News channel.

I’ve also had to retune my TV about half a dozen times: more, in the last day, than in the last year.

So … ?

I sent a WhatsApp message to the neighbour, to ask if anyone else was affected.

There’s at least one.

So I was able to phone my landlords, and report it as a communal repair: an urgent one, as there’s vulnerable adults in the building.

That, I’m told, is going to be some twenty-four hours from the time of my call.

I think I know what’s happened: I believe rain water, from the past few weeks worth of bad weather has got into the cabling that goes into the Junction box on the top floor..

Hopefully, the engineer will be able to diagnose the problem, and repair it, quickly.

This is as frustrating as it ever was.

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        19th February, 2021, saw Mya Thwe Thwe Khine become the first protestor to die.   In protests against a coup, where: Myanmar, China or Laos?

Q2)        19th February, 2001, saw an Essex abattoir quarantined: after a suspected case of what, was found?

Q3)        The Treaty of London and Zürich was signed on 19th February, 1959. It provisionally granted independence to where: Corsica, Cyprus or Sardinia?

Q4)        Smokey Robinson was born on 19th February, 1940.   For many years, he was the frontman for which band: the Miracles, the Four Tops or the Supremes?

Q5)        Finally … ?   19th February, 1945, saw American troops land on which island: Iwo Jima, Okinawa or Sarushima?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        18th February, 2026, marks the start of Ramadan.   Ramadan is celebrated by whom: Muslims, Jews or Christians?
A1)        Muslims.

Q2)        People marking Ramadan will be doing what: fasting, singing or having sex?
A2)        Fasting.   (The fast lasts from dawn ’til dusk.   From the little I know, you’re encouraged to stay sexually abstinent for the duration.)

Q3)        Ramadan is a period in its faith’s calendar.   How long a period: a week, a month or a year?
A3)        A month.

Q4)        A meal called Iftar is eaten after sunset on each day of Ramadan.   The meal traditionally starts by eating what: figs, dates or raisins?
A4)        Dates.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Marking Ramadan the traditional way is one of the religion’s Five Pillars.   Name one of the other four.
A5)        The Shahada, or Declaration of Faith, Salah/prayer, Zakat/almsgiving and the Hajj, the Pilgrimage to Mecca.   That’s the Sunni list: from what I can see, they’re the ones common to Sunni, Shia and Sufi Islam.
Here’s a thought …
“As far as I’m concerned, Motown was a once-in-a-lifetime musical event. Nothing like that happened before. I seriously doubt anything like that will ever happen again”
Smokey Robinson, (born February 19, 1940.)
And a song …

The next three ten question sets are on the 27th and 28th of February, and 1st of March: they’re about Pokémon, Andalusia and Nebraska.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (I’m afraid wisdom’s not on the list, Mum!)

I thought you’d appreciate it, Olga.   (One of these day, I’ll have to get a cosy: just so I can wear it …)

        Bad day, Debbi … ?

Right: I’ve told everyone about the next three ten question sets.

There’s a fourth on the 25th March: about Greece.
