Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 24th February 2026.

24th February, 2026.

Right … it’s officially official.

I’ve lost weight!

As long term readers will know, I’m overweight: and on a weight management programme that’s designed to help me lose weight.

I was at my most recent meeting, yesterday, in fact.

Usually, I’d join the Warm space hub, next door to the weigh-in room: but it was a bit noisy, yesterday!

At any rate: and after the wait?

I had myself checked by the volunteers who run the service: to find I’d gone from 100·1 kilos, last week, to 98·5, this week.

A loss of some 1·6 kilos, in other words.

Considering I’d done up, last week?

And had a cheeky fish supper, on Friday?

I was pleasantly surprised … !

It’s also official: that I’ve had a delivery from Amazon.

One that’s turned up when they said it would.

Which is nice.

Part of the delivery?

Is a bluray copy of The War Between the Land and the Seabeing copied as we speak, some leather cord for my waistcoat, and a leather cutting blade for the cord.

The blade?

Was advertised as a skiving knife, I should add.

I’ve not heard the word, ‘skiving’, for a long time: and it’s the first time I’ve heard it in that contest.

The last time I heard it?

It was getting used very differently!

Oh, just in case you’ve seen today’s introduction video, at the top of this post?

I made it with the rentable version of Final Cut Pro, Apple’s pro-level video editor.

It’s not as good as the ones I’ve made with DaVinci Resolve, or iMovie.

But, in my defence?

I’ve a lot of experience with iMovie: and, despite its steeper learning curve, plenty with DaVinci.

At the moment?

And right now?

I have some learning to do: especially about Final Cut’s transitions, and colour-correction.

As a last thought, before moving on … ?

Yes: I have seen another episode of Stranger Things: episode three, “The Turnbow Trap”.

And, yes: I’ve finished reviewing it.

Feel free to hit the YouTube version’s ‘Like’ button!

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        24th February, 1809, saw the UK capture where: Martinique, the Canaries or Belle de Jour?

Q2)        More to the point: the UK captured the island from whom: Spain, France or Portugal?

Q3)        24th February, 1916, saw the Governor General of Korea open a clinic for sufferers of Hansen’s Disease.   Hansen’s Disease is better known how: AIDS, leprosy or schizophrenia?

Q4)        24th February is National Artist Day.   Where: Japan, Thailand or China?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Labour Party won a slim majority: in an election held on 24th February, 1950. Who became Prime Minister as a result?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        23rd February is the feast day of Saint Serenus the Gardener.   He’s the patron saint of whom?
A1)        Unsurprisingly?   Gardeners.

Q2)        In Japan, 23rd February is the Emperor’s Birthday.   Who’s the current Japanese Emperor: Naruhito, Akihito or Hirohito?
A2)        Naruhito.   His father, Akihito, abdicated in 2019.   Naruhito’s grandfather, Hirohito, is now known as Shōwa: as the emperor’s names are changed, after death.   Hirohito is controversial: as his knowledge of, and responsibility for, WW2 era Japanese war crimes is disputed.

Q3)        US troops raised the US flag on Mount Suribachi: on 23rd February, 1945.   Mountain, troops and flag were on which Japanese island?
A3)        Iwo Jima.

Q4)        23rd February, 1455, is the traditional publication date of the Gutenburg Bible.   It’s publisher, Johannes Gutenberg, was from where: Magdeburg, Mainz or Mannheim?
A4)        Mainz.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Werner Heisenberg sent a letter to Wolfgang Pauli: on 23rd February, 1927.   In it, Heisenberg outlined his what: theory of evolution, uncertainty principle or Grand Unified Theory of Everything?
A5)        His uncertainty principle.   (Pauli was never sure about the thing …)
Here’s a thought …
“I’m not a guy who needs to read motivation books.”
Lleyton Hewitt, born 24 February 1981.
And music by Fathead Newman …

The next three ten question sets are on the 27th and 28th of February, and 1st of March: they’re about Pokémon, Andalusia and Nebraska.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!   (It was the Uncertainty Principle, Mum, rather than Evolution.)

Oh, hello, I’m Pete, again, Olga!   🤣
Skiing!?   Jordi sounds like he’s keen on keeping fit: the best I can manage is a brisk walk.   Downhill!

As I recall, Debbi, his character was James 6th and 1st … and tried chatting up Toisin Cole’s character.   (The only other person who got chatted up, more, was Jo Grant … )

Sorry, Paul. Still trying to recover from the weekend. I haven't managed to catch up on everything, but good for you on the weight front. Take care.
