Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 8-1-2017

Oh …

Right …

Think I lost that bet.

Over the past few days, I’ve been waiting for a new HomeHub from BT: after my old one contributed to a net failure on Tuesday night.

I’d been told the thing would get to me by Monday: after being told it would get to me by last Thursday.

It actually turned up — and got set up — yesterday.

So far … ?

So far, web pages seem to be loading up slightly more rapidly than they were: which is all good.

And the one use I’ve had of my Apple TV?

Seems to have gone well enough: at least, the one episode of QI I’ve watched on iPlayer?   Didn’t stutter, slur, buffer, disconnect or fall over.

Here’s hoping that keeps up.

~≈Ÿ≈~

Let’s move on, though, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) A Boeing 737 crashed on 8th January, 1989.   On which British motorway?
Q2) The African National Congress was founded: on 8th January, 1912.   In what’s now which country?
Q3) Ella T. Grasso became Governor of which US state: on 8th January, 1975?
Q4) The world’s (then) largest passenger ship was formally named by the Queen: on 8th January, 2004.   What was that ship called?
Q5) Finally … The USSR’s Luna 21 probe was launched: on 8th January or which year of the 1970s?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Italy used its what, for the first time: on 7th January, 1797?
A1) Flag.
Q2) The Georgetown IBM Experiment took place on 7th January, 1954.   It was an experiment into what: robot flight, auto-piloted cars, or computerized translation?
Q3) Which leader was voted into office: in an Indian General Election on 7th January, 1980?
A3) Mrs Indira Gandhi.
Q4) The Sakigake probe — the first space probe not launched by the USA or USSR — was launched on 7th January, 1985.   Which country was it launched by?
A4) Japan.
Q5) Finally … one-time head of the Haitian secret police, Roger Lafontant, led a coup on 7th January, 1991.   Those secret police were known as the what?
I’ll leave you with this assertion …
“I wasn’t naked, I was completely covered by a blue spotlight.”
Gypsy Rose Lee, January 8, 1911 – April 26, 1970.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*        That it is, Olga!   The setting’s an underground city in the far future: run by an artificially intelligent computer.   That’s got … well … serious personality issues.   Oh, and thinks the Commies are out to get it … (In Paranoia, the Computer says people who join secret societies, or have a mutant power, are traitors.   Treachery is punishable by death.   Oh … your character has a mutant power … and is a member of a secret society.   Oh, and is surrounded by people with laser guns … )

†        One HELL of a role, Debbi.   Although I think I preferred him in Analyse This … !   The scene where he shoots the cushion still makes me smile!   Going TOTALLY off the subject?   Remember the Twelfth Doctor talking about the bootstrap paradox, way back in the day?   I’ve got Moorcock’s Behold the Man on order: it’s supposed to be one of the best takes on the idea …

Wow! With the many games they adapt to screen, that one sounds like a great TV series, but of course it would have to be done well. Fingers crossed for your new rooter.
