13th January, 2025: Saint Mungo’s City.
Right … it’s officially Monday: and?
I’m off to Brentwood, for my weight management meeting.
Given I lost about four hundred grams, last week? About 9/10th of a pound?
I’m hoping to have lost more.
It would be nice to have a win, in the new year.

Talking of weight … ?
It seems that tonight’s episode of Panorama covers weight loss drugs available on the National Health Service.
Given a recent report that says supplying the drugs could well bankrupt the NHS?
I’d be interested in seeing that … !
Let’s move on.
Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga† and and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.
Let’s see how everyone does with today’s [insert number here] questions, shall we?
Q1) 13th January is the feast day of Saint Mungo, the patron saint of where: Edinburgh, Glasgow or Inverness?Q2) The city is in which of the UK’s home nations?Q3) More to the point, it’s on the banks of which river: the Clyde, the Ness or the Tweed?Q4) Saint Mungo is on the city’s coat of arms. As is which bird: a robin, a crow or a chough?Q5) Finally … ? The city is famous for the ‘Old Firm’ rivalry. Name either one of the two football teams that make up the Old Firm.
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 12th January, 1971, saw the debut of which series: All In The Family, Batman or Dynasty?Q2) 12th January, 1981, saw the debut of which series: All In The Family, Batman or Dynasty?A2) Dynasty. (I’ve done a set about that, too. The fact Americans pronounce the title, DIE-nasty isn’t a recommendation …)Q3) 12th January, 1966, saw the debut of which series: All In The Family, Batman or Dynasty?A3) Batman. Guess which TV show I haven’t done a set about?Q4) The Taal Volcano erupted on 12th January, 2020. The volcano is where?A4) The Philippines. (Neither volcano or the Philippines, are TV shows.)Q5) Finally … ? Emperor Zeno fled his capital: on 12th January, AD475. He’d been ruler of where: the Byzantine Empire, the Roman Empire or the Ottoman Empire?
Here’s a thought …
“In Wales and England, this saint is known by his birth and baptismal name Kentigern.”From the Wikipedia entry on Saint Mungo.
And a song …
The next ten question set on 29th January: it’s about Desert Island Discs.
Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.
Decisions about scores are final.
Thank you for coming: have a good day.
* Hello, Mum!
† I know, Olga, I know! Oh, did I mention this piece, from about fourteen years ago … ? The LA fires kept reminding me of it …
‡ That’s, what a UK size nine, Debbi: I think! Is now a good time to mention Bigfoot … ?

I remember you've talked about that a few times, although not especifically about the regulations. One wonder about that in LA as well. It seems they don't have enough water, but we sometimes watch some of these programmes where people build and renovate houses, and I'm sure they mention having people come and check that they are complying with the regulations before they can carry on with the work. Mind you, how good or bad the regulations are, and how much they have been adapted to the current circumstances and the problems with droughts and extreme weather is anybody's guess.
Oh, I forgot to comment about the medication. I guess one of the main problems is that we are talking about big numbers of people who would (theoretically) qualify for the medication, and taking into account that, at least at the moment, all these meds are very expensive, and they need to be taken in the long term (you don't give a "course" of the medication, because once you stop taking it, you put weight on again), it would mean a lot of money. And, they also keep coming up with more possible indications for it (all kinds of addictions as well), so the problem might escalate even more. More and more drugs are being investigated (of course, because there is a big market and a lot of money to be made), and they don't seem to be getting any cheaper. There would be an argument for saying that if people lose weight, many of the health problems that come with obesity would be avoided and there would be money saved, but this is always something difficult to account for. Long-term gains are hardly ever taken into account in times of crisis.
