Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th August, 2021

5th August, 2021.

Yep: it’s official.

I’m up early, today.

Mostly?

Because I’m looking after my nephew, Jude, today.

That should be fun …

~≈👦🏼≈~

JUST as a thought … ?

You’ve heard of earworms, yes?

It’s a song, playing it’s way through your head.

I don’t have one.

No: I’ve got the word popty ping, the alleged Welsh word for microwave, floating through my head.

Why?

I have no idea!

~≈🧅≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Mum†, Olga‡ and Debbi^ and putting in their answers: with Trevor, Olga And Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        The UK’s Plaid Cymru were formed: on 5th August, 1925.   The party are the what: Welsh Nationalist, Scots Nationalists or Cornish nationalists?

Q2)        5th August, 1975, saw the Forestry Commission admit what was spreading: Dutch Elm Disease, Fungal Rot or Bovine TB?

Q3)        5th August, 1862, saw the birth of Joseph Merrick.   He’s occasionally been called John Merrick … but better known how?

Q4)        5th August, 1964, saw the birth of the late Adam Yaunch.   He found fame as a member of which band: the Beastie Boys, the House of Pain or BTS … ?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Racer, Colin McRae, was born on 5th August, 1968.   What type of vehicle did he race: a car, a bike or a plane?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        NASA launched its Phoenix spacecraft.   On 4th August of which year: 2005, 2006 or 2007?
A1)        2007.

Q2)        It landed at its destination on 25th May, 2008.   What planet was it going to: Mars, Venus or Mercury?
A2)        Mars.

Q3)        That planet is the what planet from the sun: the first, second or fourth?
A3)        Fourth.   (The third planet is Earth.)

Q4)        Phoenix operated for 157 of that planet’s days.   What are those days called: days, rays or sols?
A4)        Sols.   (It’s 24 hours, 39 minutes and 35 seconds long.   I’d LOVE to see a Martian clock!)

Q5)        Finally … ?   NASA’s most recent launch to the planet was in which year: 2013, 2016 or 2020?
A5)        2020.   (It was the joint Perseverance/Ingenuity mission: that landed in February of this year.)
Here’s a thought …
“The need of work is in me.”
Guy de Maupassant, 5 August 1850 – 6 July 1893.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I was wondering where you were, Trevor …

        Hello, Mum!

‡        It sounds like you need a holiday from the holiday, Olga … !   But at least you got something sorted out!   Talking of reading … ?   I’m just finishing Homage to Catalonia: there’s something quotable in every chapter!

^        That’s the chap, Debbi: Guinness is supposed to have based his version on Sir Maurice Oldfield, the former head of MI6.   Oh, did you know Patrick Stewart played Karla, Smiley’s Soviet arch-enemy, in the BBC version of Smiley’s People?   He only did it so he could work with Guinness.

Q1) Welsh Nationalist

Q2) Dutch Elm Disease

Q3) The Elephant Man

Q4) Beastie Boys

Q5) A car
Yes, you've got it right. I will try and take it a bit easier for a bit (the last week of August, if there are no changes due to the usual suspect, the annual festivities in the neighbourhood (la festa major) will be taking place, and the radio not only reports on it but also organises quite a few events, so things should be busy (even if not quite as busy as usual), so I'll better try to get a few things done and a bit of rest before then. I love the Welsh word for microwave (it is very descriptive)! And enjoy your day with Jude!

A4 Beastie Boys
A5 A Car.

Welcome back Olga

I am sat with the big window open and am hearing the muffled sound of a pneumatic drill. Not as loud as the old drills. May take a wander later to watch the men at work.

Can be entertaining watching other people work.

I see that you missed the person who died in her Brentwood home back in 1962 :- Marilyn Monroe.
