The Daily Teaser — 12-10-2014

You know, I’ve said it for years, now: Radio 4’s a gift.

No, really.

I don’t know if there’s anything else quite like it outside the UK: but it’s mix of news, comedy, analysis, documentaries and whatever else you can find on the station.

And … ?

And very soothing, first thing on a Sunday morning.   Granted I’m agnostic, at best: whilst occasionally having found prayer useful.

But I find its religious programming’s worth a listen.

Strange … but true.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring four out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 12th October, 1875, saw the birth of the man Britain’s press called the ‘wickedest man in the world’: who was he?
Q2) 125 years later, 12th October, 2000, saw at least six sailors killed on the USS Cole: when it was attacked by suicide bombers.   The ship was docked in the Middle-Eastern port of Aden.   Aden is in which country?
Q3) 12th October, 1773, saw the first US hospital for the mentally ill, open: in which US state?
Q4) 12th October sees the Church of England honour Bishop Wilfrid of Ripon, along side noted nurse, Edith Cavell.   They ALSO honour which prison reformer?
Q5) Finally … 12th October, 1968, saw Equatorial Guinea become independent: from which European country?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

A1) James: after one of the chains co-founders, James Cash Penney.
Q2) 11th October, 2001, saw which camera company apply for bankruptcy?
A2) Polaroid.
Q3) 11th October, 1967, saw The Move apologize to Britain’s then Prime Minister: after publishing a scurrilous cartoon  of him to publicize a new single.   What was the song?
Q4) More to the point, who was the PM … ?
Q5) 11th October, 1968, saw NASA launch it’s first manned Apollo mission.   Which Apollo mission was it?
A5) Apollo 7.
Q6) Finally … 11th October is the Catholic feast day of which late Pope: John 23rd, Paul 6th or John Paul 1st?
A6) John 23rd.
I’ll leave you with this song …

And this thought …
“In youth one believes in democracy, later on, one has to accept it.”

Ramsay MacDonald, 12 October 1866 – 9 November 1937.
Have a good day!

*        Actually, Debbi†: I don’t know if they’ve released it to iTunes: but they HAVE issued it to YouTube: in a compilation of interesting snippets from series 8.   That bit with Peter Capaldi glowing seems … interesting … (It’s the wrong colour for a regeneration scene, I’m sure.)

†        Oh, the other thing, Debbi?   Look out of the cuneiform in Mummy On The Orient Express …

Cuneiform

How do you like my new FB pic? Kind of a combo of Doctor Who and crime fiction. Sci-fi and crime. A good combination.
