The Daily Teaser — 2-4-2015: The Death Of A Pope

Right … the election’s getting interesting …

Possibly …

Frankly, I’m working tonight — that’s assuming I’ve read the rota correctly! — during the Leader’s Debate, on ITV: complete with quite a lot of party leaders.

OK, that’s not going to grab everyone’s attention.

But it’s something I fancied seeing live.

Still … I’ve got a TV than can record things: and a USB stick.

There’s a lot you can do with a USB stick …

~≈Ï≈~

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring four out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 2nd April saw the death of Pope John Paul 2nd.   In which year of this century?
Q2) What name was John Paul 2nd born under?
Q3) More to the point: in which European country?
Q4) John Paul 2nd was the first non-Italian Pope since Pope Adrian 6th: who died in 1523.   Which European kingdom was Adrian 6th from?
Q5) John Paul 2nd canonized — or made — how many saints: 383, 483 or 583?
Q6) While we’re on the subject, what name did the Roman Catholic Church give to the lawyers who argued against someone’s canonization?
Q7) Who was John Paul 2nd’s immediate predecessor as Pope?
Q8) John Paul 2nd had the second longest reign of any Pope.   Who had the longest reign: Pius 9th, Celestine 8th or Urban 7th?
Q9) Which Pope had the shortest reign: Pius 9th, Celestine 8th or Urban 7th?
Q10) Finally … The Pope is head of the Holy See, monarch of the Vatican City-State and bishop of which Italian city?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 1st April, 2014, saw King’s College, Cambridge, announce they were replacing boy sopranos in their choir.   With men who’d inhaled what?
A1) Helium.   You ca see the video, here.   (My first thought on watching it … ?   “Oh, get off” … !!)
Q2) An April Fool’s Day joke — also on 1st April, 2014 — saw who show a 20-minute video of frying bacon?
A2) Netflix.
Q3) The Internet Engineering Task Force — which builds and maintains the ’Net —  publishes its RFC: that specify how the ’Net works.   Its RFC for 1st April, 2014, detailed how to make what on the ’Net?
A3) Tea.   Despite being named for the Hyper Text Coffee Pot Control Protocol, The ‘Hyper Text Coffee Pot Control Protocol for Tea Efflux Appliances’ is about making tea.   (Apparently, getting a 418 error indicates that the ‘pot’ part of a given URI is a teapot: RATHER than a coffee pot, or other type of pot.)
Q4) 1st April, 1982, saw the South China Daily Post announce that Hong Kong’s water shortages had been solved: by the introduction of what?
A4) Powdered water.
Q5) Finally … Frank Sinatra in 1945, Michael Bublé in 2008 and Bryan Ferry in 1973, all covered which 1936 song?
I’ll leave you with thought …
“Every truth—if it really is truth—presents itself as universal, even if it is not the whole truth. If something is true, then it must be true for all people and at all times.”

John Paul 2nd, in Fides et Ratio, 14 September 1998.
And this music, a version of which was used at His Holiness’s† funeral …

Have a good day …

*        I’ve never needed to use it, myself, Debbi: but you can find the basics, here.   You should ALSO be able to find out a bit more about Speech Recognition — at least, in Mavericks — here.   (If I’ve understood things correctly, you’ll need to train it, to get it used to your voice, but once it’s up and running, I’m told these things are very handy … )

†        I’ve just had a very unlikely image: of His Holiness being carried to the strains of Ian Dury’s Plaistow Patricia.   Which could’ve caused a bit of an incident …

Thank you so much, Paul! David T really held his own! I just love the guy, as Doctor and otherwise! Wish I could see him play Hamlet.
