The Daily Teaser — 31-1-2016

Lordy, but don’t you just love working on a Sunday … ?

Actually … and on a personal level?

I don’t mind working on Sunday.

Where I — sort of — have an issue … ?

Is the fact today is also a staff meeting.

At 8:30.

I hate early starts when I’m working … !

The Daily Teaser — 30-1-2016

Well, that’s the handy thing about pay day …

I’ve managed buy something from Amazon.

Well, to be frank … ?

I’ve managed to pick up season three of the Netflix version of House of Cards.

I don’t know if you’ve been watching it: but I think it’s worth your time.

Although, saying that … ?

I’m also going to be keeping my eyes peeled for Penny Dreadful.

Series three … is something I’m getting impatient to see!

The Friday Question Set — 29-1-2016

Right …

That’s the bills paid and the shopping done!

It’s Friday: so on top of everything else?

That means it’s payday.

And bill paying day.

If there’s any left over for shopping … ?

That’s a bonus!

~≈Â≈~

The Daily Teaser — 29-1-2016: The VC

You know, I do like to make sure I’ve got the radio — at least, my TV’s digital radio channels — on, at this time of the morning.

I like to hear other human voices, most morning: and find the TV news channels, along with everything else, distracting.

Radio 4’s Today programme?   Has just mentioned Storm Gertrude.

Most of Britain?   Usually has fairly mild — ish — weather.

At least … certainly not as bad as some parts of the world.

But right now … ?

Right now, I’m glad I don’t live in Scotland.

Storm Gertrude looks like it’s putting the ’87 Hurricane into the shade …

The Daily Teaser — 28-1-2016

You know, what with selling the laptop?

I managed a cheeky take-away fish and chips on Tuesday.

And topped that up with an even cheekier kebab, last night.

Forgetting, of course, the two things that really mean I shouldn’t.

For one thing … ?   I’m meant to be trying to gently lose weight.   I’m not exactly Mr Skinny, so my GP’s always making sure I’m trying — healthily and slowly — to lose the pounds.

The other reason?

Is, as much as I was rushed, after worked, and as much as I like a kebab, now and then … ?

The other reason is simply that …

Well …

Let’s put it, this way: having one means I’m going to be sat on the loo for one HELL of a long time … !

Now …

Has anyone got the number for Kebabs Anonymous … ?

The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser — 27-1-2016: Holocaust Memorial Day

Right …

I’ll admit it …

It’s Wednesday again … !

Which mean’s it’s time for the Gazette’s Teaser.

But ALSO time for me to feel slightly rushed: I’m back at work, today, after all!

With that said … ?

Let’s move on, shall we?

~≈Ÿ≈~

The Daily Teaser — 27-1-2016

Ah-HA!

I’ve done it!

I’ve officially sold the laptop I was selling.   To a local hairdresser, to be honest, and for a reasonable good price.

Enough for Ruth to get an amount of cash she was happy with.

And for me to treat myself to take out fish chips and a movie.

It’s all good!

Howl: The Return of the Little Indie Direct to Video Brit Flick

26th January, 2016.

OK, I think I’ve had a little success, today.

Really.

Remember I told you — a few days ago, now — I was trying to sell off my sister’s old laptop?

I managed to do so, today.

Picking up a tidy sum, in return.

My sister, Ruth, got her share: I got a fish supper and a movie.

Didn’t I just … ?

The film in question?   Was the straight to video 2015, Paul Hyett directed, Neil Marshall penned, Howl.

And ‘straight to video’ … ?   Isn’t necessarily bad.

~≈Â≈~

The Daily Teaser — 26-1-2016

You know, you can tell it’s a Tuesday, can’t you?

At least, I can: I only have to look at the date on my computer screen, to see the calendar.

The other reason I know … ?   Is that yesterday was Monday.

Which means I’ve got last’s episode of Gotham on.

Complete with Cameron Monaghan doing his thing as Jerome …

Riveting stuff … !

~≈Ï≈~

Monday, 25 January 2016

The Daily Teaser — 25-1-2016: Robert Burns

Hmmm …

You wouldn’t believe the research I’ve done … !

Well, ok, maybe you would …

At any rate … ?   A couple of friends at work, have been discreetly asking me if they Can … ahh … borrow some of the films I’ve got in my electronic collection.

Something I don’t mind doing, even though it’s dubious, legality wise.

But, BOY … !   You need to do some digging: finding out what machine plays what file.   Honestly, one chap’s Xbox plays one standard but not others: another co-worker only has a DVD player, which plays DVDs … and a third file format.   JUST the third file format …

Boy, but you have to juggle balls!

~≈É≈~

There’s something else, as well.

One of my co-workers — let’s call him James, shall we? — is right handed.   But was born, as I, a left-hander.

Turns out that, whilst at a private primary school, he was forced into becoming a right-hander.

James is nineteen.

And says this happened when he was about six.   Around about 2002/2003, if my basic sums are right.

Personally?   I was glad to hear he got taken out of that school by his dad: who’d been treated the same way by the same establishment.   And ALSO glad to hear the place had been closed down.

Personally, I’ve met a few older left-handers who’ve had the same thing happen to them.   I’d always though that sort of Victorian behaviour was long since dead: as it should be.

Finding out something like that went on as recently as 13 years ago?   Left me bloody angry.

I call that child abuse.

~≈É≈~

The Daily Teaser — 24-1-2016

Hmmm …

Looks like I’ve got a comparatively long day at work, today.

From 12 ’til 8:30, so you know.

There’s pros and cons.

OK, I’m doing to be woking, all day: which can be fun, and can be a drag.

But?

Being at work all day means I’m saving money on my electricity bills at home.

And, frankly, I’m grateful for is the fact that we get free food if we work more than so-many hours.

That’s dinner sorted … !

~≈∑≈~

The Daily Teaser — 23-1-2016

Blimey, there’s a thing.

You’ve probably worked out, over the years, that I’m a fan of Dr Who.

It’s possibly hard to miss the fact.

So, getting home from work, last night … ?

I found the big announcement on Facebook, and backed up by one on the BBC News site.

That show runner, Stephen Moffat is to leave the Executive producer role, once the show resumes after a 2016 Christmas special.   He’s to be replaced by Broadchurch creator, Chris Chibnall.

Frankly … ?   I’m thinking good luck to them both.

I think we all need that.

~≈Ê≈~

Friday, 22 January 2016

The Friday Question Set — 22-1-2016

Right …

I’m VAGUELY rushed …

Well … as much as someone who’s due to do an evening shift CAN be!

Vaguely rushed …

And looking for a quick sale of a Dell laptop.

If you know anyone … ?   Get ’em to contact me, would you … ?   Ta!

~≈Â≈~

The Daily Teaser — 22-1-2016

Right …

That’s THAT done …

I mentioned, yesterday, that I’d be putting a version of Ubuntu onto my sister old machine: then selling it on.

I’ve got the first half done: I’ve now got a laptop running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, sitting in the hallway.

What’s surprised me … ?   Is the amount of interest I’ve had in the thing: even running an obscure OS. Although I’ve had to turn down at least one person: who wanted to use it to back up her daughter’s iPhone.

Hopefully, though … ?

Hopefully, I’ll be able to match it to to a buyer who doesn’t need specific Windows based software.   And get a good price, for it.

Keep your fingers crossed for me, folks.

The Daily Teaser — 21-1-2016: Monte Carlo or Bust

Ohh … but I’ve got a day off.

Although, frankly … ?

I’m thinking that I’ve given my mother my old Mac mini — most of my old friends will be saying “Oh, he’s rehomed ‘Bruce’” — then I’ve an extraneous laptop sitting around.

So long as I can get permission from my kid sister?   I’ll be wiping the hard drive, plonking Ubuntu OS on the thing, and selling it on.

Either privately, or to my local CeX.

We’ll have to see what happens, won’t we?

~≈∂≈~

The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser — 20-1-2016: Wannsee

Right …

I’ve got to admit to being at work, today: in a couple of hours time.

In the meantime?

That 4th generation Apple TV is paying its way: frankly … ?

Well frankly, the fact it’s got the BBC iPlayer on its AppStore is a blessing.

Means I can catch up with the Tracey Ullman Show!

~≈†≈~

The Daily Teaser — 20-1-2016

Right, here we go …

I’m back to work, today.

After a couple of days off that went rather well.

At least, as far as I’m concerned.

The staff christmas do on Monday: which was fun.

And I managed to catch Future Shock! The Story of 2000AD, last night.

Nice to get some of the history behind the comic that was and is the modern equivalent of The Eagle: and see the face of Brian Bolland, one of my favourite artist on the title.

Future Shock! is quite something to catch!

Future Shock: The Story of 2000AD — Zarjaz

19th January, 2016.

You know, on a free Tuesday night, I’d usually be watching …

Well …

All sorts of things.

Just recently?

TV box sets like Penny Dreadful or House of Cards.

Occasionally … ?

I’d be watching a movie.

Tonight?

Tonight, a couple of Teaser videos done, and nothing — as yet — grabbing my attention on my iTunes store wish list?

Well, I went shopping for documentaries: and managed to rent …

~≈‰≈~

The Daily Teaser — 19-1-2016

Well, that was fun.

Did I mention last night was the official staff Christmas do, last night?

We had the official staff do, last night.

At a bowling alley in Romford: ironically, next to Kidspace, one of my nephew’s favourite places.

I think I did rather well for myself.   I’m blowed if I can remember my score for the first game, but did manage 108 on the second.   I think switching to heavier balls — and occasionally using my off-hand — helped.

I’m pleased with that score.

And with the evening, overall.

I think we can safely say everyone had a good night.

~≈Â≈~

The Daily Teaser — 18-1-2016

Amazing …

It’s Monday …

AND ITS STILL NOT SNOWED … !

Which I, personally, am grateful for: although QUITE what my five-year-old, Jude, would be telling you at the moment, I don’t know.

Probably that it’s a stinky poo-head, if I know him!

At any rate, it’s possibly good news: it means there’s less chance of problems with public transport.

Tonight … is the official Works Christmas do: bowling in Romford, so you know.

Frankly … ?

I’m looking forward to the night out …

~≈Â≈~

Sunday, 17 January 2016

The Daily Teaser — 17-1-2016

Oh, well, that’s a result.

We’re not snowed in …

The UK can be something of an odd beast, sometimes.

Especially when it comes to the weather.

As you’ve possibly worked out, we’re in the northern hemisphere: and therefore enjoying winter.

Well, I say enjoying …

At any rate, it’s winter: and you’d expect snow, at some point.   Wouldn’t you?

Parts of the south-east — the part of the UK which includes my home town — have been hit with snow.

Apart from my bit.

I’m thankful, to be honest.

It’s going to be freezingly cold, out.   But at least I’m not going to go end over end, over snow!

The Stone Tape — Retro TV

16th January, 2016: The Stone Tape

You know, it’s not THAT often I get a Saturday night off.

No, really …

But when I do … ?

If I’ve nothing else to do — or planned — I like to try and catch a movie.

Or possibly a TV series.

Dr Who is a perennial favourite: but I’ve been binge-watching Penny Dreadful and House of Cards, over the past few months.

I’m ALSO planning to catch series two of Gotham: week by week, as it’s aired on Channel Five, here in the UK.

Occasionally … ?

Just occasionally, I find a TV show that’s not a series: doesn’t get anywhere NEAR being a series, or pilot …

Or …

Can I be frank?

I’ve spent tonight watching an old ‘made for TV’ PLAY: the Nigel Kneale penned, Peter Sasdy directed, The Stone Tape.

And it’s rather hard to explain: unless you know a little history.

~≈È≈~

The Daily Teaser — 16-1-2016: Ivan Grozny

Oh, now, there’s a thing: I’ve actually got a Saturday night off.

Which is appreciated, if you’ve ever worked shifts.

I don’t know if I’ll be doing anything drastic with my time, though.

Well …

Beyond maybe eating.

Obviously.

Frankly … ?   Well, frankly, I’m saving a little of my cash for Monday night: this year’s staff Christmas party.

Tonight might just be the perfect chance to catch up with The Stone Tape.

As I’ve got a copy sitting around …

The Friday Question Set — 15-1-2016

That … seemed odd …

I’ve just got back from work: literally, just now.

And I’m posting up today’s Friday Question set as a way of putting my feet up.

But something’s bothering me.

We had one chap — in his early twenties, I’d’ve said — come in: after finishing his shift.

And asking for a job.

I didn’t actually get the chance to give him one of the forms for my work place website.

I have to confess, I’m not too sure I wanted to.

To be honest, the guy came in with a group of girls.   Not young women — believe me, it’s getting harder to tell, with some of the teens we get coming in! — but girls: a group of them, of about twelve to fourteen at the oldest.

It bothered me: enough to quietly let all three of the managers on duty, tonight, know.

I don’t know if anything was going on, there: but it didn’t look right …

~≈fi≈~

The Daily Teaser — 15-1-2016

Blimey …

Alan Rickman, as well … ?

I don’t know if you watch much of the news: but you can’t help but notice David Bowie died, recently.

Yesterday?

Saw the death of Alan Rickman.

That’s sad.

I have to confess, I never went out of my way to catch anything with him in it: bar the original Die Hard.

But hearing that one of Britain’s most known actors has gone?

Well, it’s sad …

~≈Â≈~

Thursday, 14 January 2016

The Daily Teaser — 14-1-2016: Titan, and Other Moons …

Oh, right …

That’s what happened …

Remember, yesterday, I told you I’d slept through my alarm?

Well, I think I can say I was wrong.

What I’d ACTUALLY done?   Was set it for the wrong time.

Which was kind of awkward.

ESPECIALLY … as it went off at three in the afternoon.

When I was at work.

Yeah …

That was awkward … !

The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser — 13-1-2016: Cash And Other Albums

Right: I’m vaguely rushing, at the mo: I’ve only a while before I head back to work, after a few days off.

Can’t say I’m THAT unhappy.

It means I can be doing SOMETHING with my day, apart from sitting around.

Although whether I’ll be saying that at The end of a long shift … ?

Is something I couldn’t tell you.

~≈‰≈~

The Daily Teaser — 13-1-2016

Arrrrgh … !

I HATE doing that … !

I forgot to put my alarm on … !

OK, I’m not up too late …

But doing on you first day back at work, AND when you’ve got to post up the Gazette Teaser … ?

Arrrrgh … !

~≈®≈~

The Daily Teaser — 12-1-2016

I have to confess, right at the moment?

I’m mildly distracted.

Mostly where I’ve got last night’s episode of Gotham: series 2 started on Channel 5.

I’ve got it on in the background, as I write.

Yes, I know it’s airing at a later date the in the US: but Channel Five have told us it will be aired in one complete go.

Something I’m happy to hear.

I’m also watching several of the inmates break out of Arkham.   Including Jim Gordon’s ex, Barbara.

It’s looking like one HELL of a hairy opening … !

~≈Ê≈~

Monday, 11 January 2016

The Daily Teaser — 11-1-2016

JESUS!

I don’t know if I was ever a music fan.

Or a fan of David Bowie.

I DO know I, like many of us, had grown up on the man’s music: and thoroughly enjoyed the singles he’d put out over the years.

AND the few albums of his I’d bought.

I’ve woken up, this morning, and been shocked when I turned on the news.

David Bowie died, overnight, after an 18 month battle with cancer.

Someone who’d only released his most recent album on Friday — his 69th birthday.

I’m …

Shocked.

Wilko Johnson survived pancreatic cancer: one of the nastier forms of the disease.

How on EARTH could David Bowie not?

Either way … ?

My condolences go to his family.

I know I’m in shock: their grief will only be greater.

The Daily Teaser — 10-1-2016

Did I tell you I have the TV version of The Martian Chronicles on order?

And frankly?

Frankly, I was a little concerned, when Amazon emailed me to say it was due to get to me, yesterday.

Well …

Sceptical.

Especially given the incident with the hard drive I’d ordered.

But it got here: at about six o’clock, last night.

I was pleasantly surprised.

And, as soon as I get the chance?

I’ll be glued to them …

~≈Ê≈~

Saturday, 9 January 2016

The Daily Teaser — 9-1-2016: Death and Taxes

You know, it’s just occurred to me: today is the last Saturday I’ve got off, before I go back to work.

On Wednesday.

Personally … ?

I’m intent on enjoying it.   Well … enjoying the chance to go shopping in a comparatively unrushed way.

And to take my time, making the next set of Teaser videos.

Which will be good, hopefully: I’ve a few stinkers planned.

At least, I THINK I’ve got a few stinkers planned.

I couldn’t tell you.

My left nostril’s still blocked …

~≈Ï≈~

House of Cards — Series 2: Episodes 12 and 13

You know, I have to confess to feeling under The weather, at the moment.

No, really.

I’ve come down with a cold.

And, to talk to … ?

You’d quite probably be sitting there thinking, “God, but Paul sounds rough!”

At least, rougher than usual!

It meant that last night, instead of what I’d been planning to do — watch the last two episodes of Series 2 of House of Cards — I got a SERIOUSLY early night.

I headed to bed about 8: stressed out after waiting around for a four terabyte hard-drive: and feeling distinctly unwell, to boot.

Tonight, though … ?

Tonight, I’m feeling a touch better.

Well …

I’ve had more sleep.   AND … ?   Well, frankly, I’ve had enough Lemsip and nasal decongestant to worry a rhino.

But at least leave me able to watch these last two episode: AND tell you about it …

~≈†≈~

The Friday Question Set — 8-1-2016

OK, it’s been a while since I’ve done this.

Posted up a Friday Question Set!

Sue me!

It’s been a while … ?

Well, mostly where I’ve been working: and had less time to put into the blog as I’d’ve like.

Well, beyond the Daily and Weekly Teasers.

So with THAT said … ?

~≈¥≈~

The Daily Teaser — 8-1-2016

Right …

It’s now official …

I now have a back-up drive: after the 4-terabyte internal drive I’d order from Amazon finally turned up.

Something I’m frankly glad about: considering The wait I had for the thing!
There it is, showing up on my desktop: the blue one, at the bottom.

I’ve even done a slide show, which you probably don’t need to know.

But I’m going to show you, anyway!

At ANY rate … ?

I’ve also worked out why I’m feeling a bit wonderful, this morning.

I think I’ve come down with a cold.

Lovely!

I’ve got one question, there.   Why on Earth, when we get a blocked nose?

It’s always just the one nostril that gets blocked?

What on EATH’s happening, there?

~≈Ç≈~

The Daily Teaser — 7-1-2016: Lucky Sevens

Ye mothering GODS, but I feel lovely.

He says, mustering up the kind of irony a body can only use, when it’s got up after a bad night.

Seriously bad night: I slept.

But only intermittently: getting up to go to the loo.

What the hell was going on, there, I REALLY don’t know.

Personally … ?   Personally, I’m just glad I’m off work, at the mo.   Quite how this would affect me, I don’t know: but suspect ‘badly’ would be the word to use.

The one thing I do know … ?   Is that whether or not I head back to bed, I’m indoors: and ready for the much talked of internal hard drive.

Here’s hoping the blessed thing turns up, when I’m awake!

~≈fi≈~

The Brentwood Gazette’s Weekly Teaser — 6-1-20156: You’re Fired

Right …

One or two bits have been delivered by Amazon.

Which is nice!

And no: these ARN’T one’s I’m going to tell you about, thanking you!

But, at any rate?

Stuff’s starting to come in.

~≈Â≈~

The Daily Teaser — 6-1-2016

Right, I think I use Olga a bit of a thank you: her giving me the email for Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos, has had a bit of a result.

As you’re probably very aware, just after Christmas, I managed to order a four terabyte internal drive: to use as a back up drive.

Which then got lost in transit.

!*

At ANY rate, Olga, bless her, managed to dig up the email address for Jeff Bezos: at least the one he uses so people can have a really GOOD whinge!

I sent Mr Bezos an email: explaining what had happened, and politely asking what on EARTH had gone on.

I got a reply, later that day: from a chap called Joe Ryan, working on behalf of Mr B.

Firstly?   He managed to reduce the delivery time: so, hopefully, the drive will be with me, by 1 o’clock, tomorrow.

Secondly?   He’s told that that, while he can’t pass on any results, he has passed on details of what happened to Amazon Logistics: the people who actually deliver stuff for the company.   That way, at least the company can say they’re doing something about the cock-up, even if it’s just asking what happened.

And as a final point … ?

They put twenty pound’s worth of credit onto my gift card balance.   Which frankly, has got me some bits already.

Either way … ?

That’s a result.   I don’t know if the blessed thing WILL turn up: but feeling a touch reassured about.

But will say this: Thanks, Olga!

~≈Â≈~

House of Cards — Series 2: Episodes 10 and 11

You know, I THINK I’ve had some interesting news, tonight.

Concerning the order I’d put in, for a four terabyte internal hard drive.

Let’s just say that — with a little help from a regular reader — I’ve had something of a result.

Including a £20 gift card.

At ANY rate … ?

That’s possibly something for the morning.

~≈Ú≈~

At any rate … ?

Something I know I’ve been meaning to do since before Christmas?   And only now — with some time off — been able to do is catch up with something I’ve been watching.

Series 2 of the excellent Netflix version of House of Cards.

Given it’s been a few weeks … ?

I thought it was about time I sat down down with the next two episodes: episodes 10 and 11 …

Well, I don’t know about you, but I’d like to know what’s going in Washington …

~≈Ú≈~

The Daily Teaser — 5-1-2016

Oh, now that is ridiculous … !

Remember me mentioning, yesterday, that I’ve been waiting for a package from Amazon?

An internal hard drive, so you know: one I’m going to use as a back-up drive, in conjunction with Time Machine.

It was supposed to finally turn up, yesterday.

But didn’t.

Because — get this — because the couriers had lost the package … !

How the HELL did they manage to lose the bloody thing?

I’ve a deeply suspicious side that’s wondering about the competence of the couriers.   One recently had to bang on my door, to ask me to keep hold of a package for my neighbour: he’d posted my delivery, that day, in her letterbox!

I’ve a deeply suspicious part of me wondering if a driver has … light fingers, let’s put it that way.

It could well just be a simple cock-up.

Frankly, I’m blowed if I know!

To give Amazon credit, Amazon are usually pretty good at delivering whatever it is we order, by the date they say will.

And in THIS case … ?   They’ve refunded me the money — as Amazon Gift credit — to enable me to get another.   One that theoretically, will be here between Friday and next Monday.

I’m — understandably — not impressed.

And will only believe it’s going to get here … when it finally turns up.

Sherlock: The New Year’s Day Special — The Abominable Bride

You know, I have to admit to feeling vaguely grateful.

Vaguely.

I’m grateful to have some time off at the moment.

I’m grateful to have a fourth generation Apple TV: complete with an onboard version of the BBC’s iPlayer catch-up app.

I’m bloody annoyed at Amazon: managing to lose an internal hard drive I’d ordered from them.

That latter … ?   Is something for another post, maybe.   Quite probably in the morning!

At any rate, gratitude?

Yes, I’m grateful to have much I otherwise wouldn’t have.

You see, working on New Year’s Day … ?

Meant I missed the seasonal special of Sherlock.

And frankly?

I’m glad — and grateful — that I caught it.

~≈Â≈~

The Daily Teaser — 4-1-2015

Again with the Amazon delivery … !

You know I’ve had an internal hard drive on order?

Since Tuesday, so you know.

And one that was supposed to get here, on New Year’s Eve.

And didn’t.

It got re-scheduled for yesterday.

And still didn’t arrive.

Amazon have assured me it’s due, today.

Are you feeling vaguely cynical?

I know I am … !

That’s a hell of a way to start some time off!

~≈fl≈~

Sunday, 3 January 2016

The Daily Teaser — 3-1-2016

Arrghgh!

Amazon still haven’t delivered!

I managed to get in touch with them, yesterday: to try and find out what sort of time my delivery — a four terabyte internal drive I’m going to use as a back-up drive — would turn up.

They couldn’t tell me.

It has to be said, I ALSO mentioned that I’d been in all day, Thursday: and not heard a thing from them.

Guess what … ?
