Mr Robot — Series 3: Episodes 3 and 4 — eps3.2_legacy.so and eps3.3_m3tadata.par2*

1st February, 2018.

Yes, exactly …

Games CAN be disconcertingly distracting.

EXTREMELY disconcertingly distracting.

Especially the two games featured in that introductory video: Armagetron Advanced and Pac the Man X.

That’s not what’s got me concerned, right now, though.

Nope.

The remote control on my TV set’s gone home!

Yes, I have changed batteries.

Yes, I’ve got work arounds.

But?

Bugger!

That’s distracting …

And frustrating.

~≈§≈~

Frustrating … because I think I know what’s happened.

I know I spilt some tea, earlier.   And think I’ve spilt it onto the remote.

Which is possibly what’s knackered the thing.

I’ll get by, for now.

Like I saw, workarounds: and I can always see if another, fresher, set of batteries will work†.

But … ?

Well, I have to admit: frustration isn’t something I cope well with.

Looking back at my history?

That possibly explains a few things.

~≈§≈~

At ANY rate … ?

At any rate, distractions and frustrations aside, tonight was a night off.

A night off where I was determined to catch up with an old friend …

Series three of an old friend.

Series 3 of …

~≈§≈~

Appropriately, given the title?

Episode 4 — eps3.2_legacy.so — is a flash back to series two: showing us exactly what Tyrell (Martin Wallström) has been up two, since the night of the Hack.

On the night?   Mr Robot (Christian Slater) tried shooting Tyrell: only to find the gun jamming.

And, following Elliot’s arrest and imprisonment?

Tyrell is effectively kidnapped: by Irving (Bobby Canavale) one of the Dark Army’s senior ops.

Kidnapped …

And eventually shooting Elliot (Rami Malek).

Episode 5 — eps3.3_m3tadata.par2 — back in the now?   Back in the now, Darlene (Carly Chaikin) is briefly warned by Agent DiPierro: that Elliot has found her safe house.

Darlene is reassured: to find Elliot is in charge, rather than Mr Robot.

Because … ?

Because she has spotted Elliot’s other self with Angela (Portia Doubleday) and Tyrell.

And deeply concerned that, somewhere along the line, things are going to go badly awry.

Her only hope … ?

Is to convinces Elliot that revenge is needed if things go wrong.

Now …

Good … ?

Oh, yes.

While I’m frustrated by the remote control going home, I am also still glued to Mr Robot: finding its central character‡ sympathetic, its premise entertaining …

And the fact the supporting cast are factionalising around our hero’s divided self seriously watchable.

Here’s hoping I can figure out the buttons for next time!

*       I’m not sure about the extensions, there.   But legacy code is older source code, applications, operating systems and hardware: usually kept if needed, but no longer supported.   Every file on a computer has metadata, data about the file: what sort of file it is — photo, audio, text file — stuff about the file — the author, the camera the took it, the bit rate — or structural: whether the audio is meant to be played with a video, whether the text is a set of subtitles, and how they’re synchronised.

†        If all else fails?   I can have a look at the model number of the TV: and see if I can pick up a Universal remote for it.   The basic functions I can access with the buttons on top of the TV set.   The only thing they don’t let me access?   Is the ability of my TV to record stuff.   that’s minor, considering there’s a lot available by various shades of catch up service, but still something I like to do.

‡        Both of him.
