Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14th April, 2021

14th April, 2021.

Right … I’m officially in a rush.

I’ve a job interview — via Zoom — this afternoon.

And a doctor’s appointment — by phone — this morning.

I’m not sure what I’m more nervous about: the appointment, the interview … or using Zoom for the first time!

~≈🚀≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Edith†, Mum‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, Mum on four, and Edith on two.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        14th April, 1561, saw phenomena described as an ‘aerial battle,’ occur.   Over which German city: Hamburg, Nuremberg or Nurnberg?

Q2)        14th April, 1940, saw the birth of actress, Julie Christie.   She played Lara Antipova in which 1965 film?

Q3)        14th April, 1935, saw the birth of embezzler and author, Erich von Däniken.   His Chariot of the Gods? claimed what had visited Earth: aliens, asteroids or aardvarks?

Q4)        14th April, 1932, saw the birth of the Queen of Country.   Which singer is she: Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette or Dolly Parton?

Q5)        Finally … ?   14th April, 1958, saw the birth of actor, Peter Capaldi. He won a Best Live Action Short Film Oscar for Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life.   In which year of the 1990s?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        13th April saw the birth of playwright, Samuel Beckett.   In which year: 1905, 1906 or 1907?
A1)        1906.

Q2)        He was born in which Irish city: Cork, Dublin or Galway?
A2)        Dublin.

Q3)        He lived for much of his life in the capital of France.   What’s that city called?
A3)        Paris.

Q4)        For many years, he worked with Billie who: Bunter, Bailey or Whitelaw?
A4)        Billie Whitelaw.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Vladimir and Estragon were characters in Beckett’s Waiting for whom?
A5)        Waiting for Godot.
Here’s a thought …
“If you put me in a real TARDIS, I dread to think what would happen to the universe.”
Peter Capaldi, born 14th April, 1958.
And a song …

And this …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I know what you mean about price, Olga.   The last cut I had was a touch more expensive: but absolutely fine.   It’s only where he was fully booked, I went next.   And Mum’s got a regular hairdresser who work’s from home: although I don’t know how soon Karen’s back in action!
I know what you mean about deliveries, too: Brexit’s done the UK some damage!   There’s been stories in the news, recently.   Quite a few Leave voting British expats in Spain are complaining about having to leave your country, as residency rules have changed.   They’re complaining that’s not what they voted for.   As you can image, there’s a lot of sarcastic comments doing the rounds …

†        Yes: I saw that, Edith!   Thanking you for the approval!   I do know Trevor’s worked out how to use his phone as a remote control for his TV.   We’ll see if he works out how to stream to it!

‡        Hello, Mum!

^        That’s him, Debbi.   He’s quite influential, usually gets a mention alongside Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.   The Nomad of The Time Streams is one of the steam punk novels.   And Dungeons and Dragons owes its alignment system to Moorcock’s ideas: most of his characters aren’t good or evil, they follow Law or Chaos.   Then there’s Elric … !   (He started writing in the 1960s: in fantasy and SF magazines.   Sort of a UK equivalent of R. E. Howard, H. P. Lovecraft … and Erle Stanley Gardner, if you want a courtroom drama.)

Oh, JUST as a last thought, Debbi. From what I’ve understood, some of the hardcore fantasy video games use an alignment system: picked up from Dungeons and Dragons.

Chickens coming home to roost comes to mind about some expats, but I'm sure there are plenty much more enlightened.
I hope your Zoom experience goes well. It is not too difficult if you're using the basics. When we had to do the lessons it was a bit more complicated, because there are many things you can do if you are the one setting up the call, and you have to keep certain things in mind. A one to one call shouldn't be too hard, especially for you. As long as you remember to have the microphone on (and the camera, if you're using it), you should be fine.
Zoom has a lot of videos and instructions explaining how to use it, but you won't need to use those, although you can always try (and you can record the videocall as well from your end, if that's of use to you).
All the best.
