Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th April, 2021.

5th April, 2021.

It’s officially official: I’ve got two books on the go, right now.

LeGuin’s The Lathe of Heaven: George and his lawyer, Helen, are meeting in a cabin in the woods.

One he didn’t own last week.

One that didn’t exist last week!

Ahem!

~≈📖≈~

The other one I’m reading?   Is actually a graphic novel; Strontium Dog: The Starlord Years.

It’s Johnny Alpha’s early adventures, taken from the character’s appearance in Starlord: and a hell of a lot of fun.

~≈📖≈~

As a final thought … ?

The first qualifying matches for this year’s Snooker World Championship take place, today.

Including one between veterans players, Stephen Hendry and Jimmy White: the only two men who’ve got through to seven — count ’em, seven! — World finals.

Hendry’s all seven of his.

White’s lost all his: four of them to Hendry!

I would love to see Jimmy White win this year’s final: hell, I think Snooker’s world body should just give the title to Jimmy!

Which isn’t going to happen, I know.

Jimmy qualifying will be shaky, I know.

But it would be superb to see him win this year’s final … !

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Trevor*, Olga†, Mum‡, Debbi^, Edithª putting in their answers: with Trevor, Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum and Edith on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        Philanthropist and slave trader, Elihu Yale, was born on 5th April, 1649.   The University named after him is in which US state: Connecticut, New York or California?

Q2)        Thomas Hobbes was born on 5th April, 1588.   His best known book is called what: Behemoth, Leviathan or Kraken?

Q3)        5th April, 1827, saw the birth of surgeon, Joseph Lister.   He introduced the use of carbolic acid to do what: sterilise wounds, clean glass or fertilise soil?

Q4)        Dean Kamen was born on 5th April, 1951.   He invented which form of person transport: the folding bicycle, the Sinclair C5 or the Segway?

Q5)        Finally … ?   5th April marks the usual start of the Hanshi Festival.   It’s a festival, where: China, Thailand or Japan?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Sir Robert Walpole was named as Prime Minister: on 4th April, 1721.   Which party was he from: the Whigs, Tories or Bolsheviks?
A1)        The Whigs.

Q2)        Strictly speaking, he was Prime Minister of where: the United Kingdom, Great Britain or England?
A2)        Great Britain.   Great Britain is what’s now England, Scotland and Wales.   The modern UK consists of Great Britain, and Northern Ireland.

Q3)        The PM is a member of what: the Toilet Council, Privy Council or Cess Pit?
A3)        The Privy Council.

Q4)        Who was King, when Walpole was PM: George 1st, 2nd or 3rd … ?
A4)        George 1st.   He also served under George 2nd.

Q5)        Walpole was the first Prime Minister.   Who’s the current Prime Minister?
A5)        Boris Johnson.
Here’s a thought …
“I think I have learned that the best way to lift one’s self up is to help someone else.”
Booker T. Washington, April 5, 1856 – November 14, 1915.
And a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Actually, Trevor, there’s probably an app for that … !   (Any idea if the Hendry/White match is being aired anywhere?   I’m blowed if I can find it on the Red Button schedules.)

†        It strikes me they had it rough, Olga: as did some of Sutcliffe’s victims.   I always feel his victims include their children, as well.   Wilma McCann’s son, Richard,  seriously takes after his mother …

‡        Hello, Mum!

^        I thought that video would go down well, Debbi!   :D   I think you mentioned your neighbours.   I just hope they’re not that closing related: don’t let them use you loo if they are.   Keith had this habit of dropping cherry bombs down them.   (That’s before you mention what he used to do with clingfilm … )

ª        Yeah, I never knew about Ferrer and Moon, either, Edith.   That’s something to find out!   Thanks for the tune, by the way.   Slide guitar’s a wonderful thing to hear, isn’t it?

Yes, the children always suffer, and I guess that's the case as well, even in a totally different way, for the children of the criminals involved, if they are caught.
Thanks for the link. Thankfully he managed to turn his life around, but one can only hope these days children in those circumstances would be given a bit more support, but things are far from ideal.
Enjoy the snooker (I never went to watch it in Sheffield, although I walked around often when it was taking place, and there was a buzz in the atmosphere, I must say).

For your snooker some times Quest shows events from Eurosport but I could not find any for today. They do have the EFL show on later in the evening.

Today I shall be watching 2 live soccer matches on Sky Sports Premier League channel.

Oh my phone told me that the outside temperature is -1C due to wind chill. Good job I am inside a well Insulated house with the central heating on low.
