Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 21st August, 2021.

21st August, 2021.

It’s got to be said, I’ve had a look out of the front door of the building: and the day is looking distinctly overcast.

With the BBC’s weather service telling us it could get wetter …

That’s nice: it’ll make buying some margarine a pleasure.

He says, layering on the irony …

~≈🌧≈~

I’m someone who likes a movie, occasionally: you might have noticed.

I might just watch one, tonight: we’ll have to see.

I do know, though, that No Time To Die — the much delayed James Bond film — is now getting its world premiere on 28th September: with a full release, two days later.

Frankly?   I’m looking forward to its VOD release.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a James Bond film.

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor†, Mum‡ and Debbi^ putting in their answers: with Olga, Trevor and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        Engineer, Robert Moog, died: on 21st August, 2005.   He’s credited with inventing the first commercially successful what: synthesiser, electric guitar or drum machine?

Q2)        21st August is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Knock.   This particular Knock: Ireland, New Zealand or Australia?

Q3)        What painting was stolen from the Louvre, on 21st August, 1911: the Mona Lisa, Guernica or The Last Supper?

Q4)        The Dumbarton Oaks Conference started: on 21st August, 1944.   The conference is seen as the start of what: the EU, UN or NATO?

Q5)        Finally … ?   21st August, 1765, saw the birth of William 4th of the United Kingdom.   He was King of the UK.   And of which German Kingdom: Hanover, Prussia or Bavaria?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        General William Booth died on 20th August, 1912.   He and his wife, Catherine, found what: the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Salvation Army or the Unification Church?
A1)        The Salvation Army.

Q2)        20th August is the Feast day of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux.   As head of Clairvaux Abbey, he lead which monastic order: the Cistercians, the Benedictines or the Jesuits?
A2)        The Cistercians.

Q3)        Nippon Hōsō Kyōkai was founded on 20th August, 1926.   It’s which country’s public broadcaster: Tibet’s, Japan’s or Mongolia’s?
A3)        Japan’s.

Q4)        Actor, André Morrell, was born on 20th August, 1909.   Who did he voice in the 1978 version of The Lord of the Rings: Bilbo, Aragorn or Elrond?
A4)        Elrond. The film saw John Hurt voice Aragorn, and Norman Bird as Bilbo.   The film also sees Anthony Daniels — C3-PO, himself — as Legolas. Morrell also played Quatermass.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Multi instrumentalist, Dave Brock, was born on 20th August, 1941.   He’s been the founder — and sole constant member — of which English band: Dumpy’s Rusty Nuts, Hawkwind or Marillion?
A5)        Hawkwind.   (Saying that … ?   The lead vocals on the band’s best known hit, Silver Machine, were sung by a Mr Ian Kilminster: better known as Lemmy from Motorhead.)
Here’s a thought …
“You don’t know who they are, you don’t know how old they are, you don’t know how many films they’ve seen. They’re all putting out these forthright opinions and I take no notice of them. They’re not to be trusted, I think.”
Film critic’s film critic, Barry Norman, 21 August 1933 – 30 June 2017.
Cheers, Barry!

As today’s Joe Strummer’s birthday?

There’s a Clash playlist …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        Isn’t is nice to see a Eurovision contestant do well, Olga?   About the only one I can remember, though, is Samantha Womack: she turned up in EastEnders, years later.   I’ve just looked it up on YouTube.   Dearie, dearie me …
At ANY rate, the meeting went well enough: my case worker’s suggesting filling in a Limited Capacity to Work form: which could be good, if it goes through.

I wouldn’t bet on it Trevor.   From what I can see, it’s getting slated.   Neil Gaiman’s compared it to “ … Batman, if he’s now a news reporter in a yellow trenchcoat with a pet bat.”   Which seems to sum it up.

        Hello, Mum!

^        Oh, very true, Debbi, very true!   (Saying that … ?   Evil of The Daleks looks like it’s better quality.)

Q1) Synthesiser

Q2) Ireland (Curiously enough, I visited it with my parents. There is an airport [Knock airport, of course] very nearby, and I couldn’t resist. An Irish friend told me to check flights there, and he explained that they had built the airport to cater to people visiting the site. Fascinating!)

Q3) The Mona Lisa

Q4) UN

Q5) Hanover
Oh yes, I remember. This is the Spanish singer (Catalan) I was talking about. She had done better than I remembered in Eurovision, actually.

Fingers crossed that your worker's suggestion has a good result.

Yes it is murky out there. And there is a Yellow warning of rain which may cause localised flooding.

3. the Mona Lisa
4. UN
5. Hanover

Oh, man. I'm learning so much European history here.

Honestly, this is stuff we never covered. How much history (other than strictly British geographically) do you learn in school?

It would be really interesting to compare history curricula among nations. I'll let someone else do it. :)
