Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-8-2021: World Wide Webbing …

6th August, 2021.

It’s official: I’ve got my bath towels washing.

Which you possibly didn’t want to know.

Frankly, I’ve put them through, a day or two earlier.

Because of spaghetti.

I made a batch of spaghetti sauce, last night.

And, as I usually do, made sure I filled the sink: so I could clean some utensils as I went.

And … ?

And, I hear you ask … ?

I took my eye off the metaphorical board.

And ended up with a soaked floor: that need two towels to mop up!

~≈🛀🏼≈~

I’m jobhunting: you’ve possibly noticed, if you’ve been following me for a while.

So you’re aware that — like others in my shoes — my budget’s tight.

The £20 uplift to Universal Credit, for example, is bloody helpful: but due to end in September.

So news that’s cropped up today. that Ofgem, the UK’s energy regulator, has effectively put up prices, by increasing the price cap …

Is decidedly unwelcome.

~≈🚽≈~

As a final thought … ?

Today’s guest on Desert Island Discs is lawyer, Nazir Afzal.

He’s chosen House of Pain’s Jump Around as his first record.

That’s one hell of a tune …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor†, Mum‡, and Debbi^ and putting in their answers: with all four scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1)        Tim Berners-Lee released the World Wide Web to the public on 6th August, 1991.   The first web server — the computer where website live, if you will — was where Tim worked.   Where did he work: MIT, CERN or JPL?

Q2)        WorldWideWeb is the name Tim gave to the first what: website, web browser or web page?

Q3)        A web address — a URL, or Uniform Resource Locator — usually starts with the letters, https. https stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol … what.

Q4)        A web page is written in a computer language called HTML.   What does the H stand for: Hyper, Head or Hieronymus?

Q5)        Finally … ?   Websites are accessed across what: the internet, fishing nets or electricity pylons?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        The UK’s Plaid Cymru were formed: on 5th August, 1925.   The party are the what: Welsh Nationalist, Scots Nationalists or Cornish nationalists?
A1)        Welsh Nationalists.   (The Scottish National Party, or SNP are the largest Scottish nationalist party. There’s various Cornish nationalist groups.   Irish nationalism is famously … complicated.   English nationalism is an ongoing argument.)

Q2)        5th August, 1975, saw the Forestry Commission admit what was spreading: Dutch Elm Disease, Fungal Rot or Bovine TB?
A2)        Dutch Elm Disease. (I almost wrote Bovine TV, there.)

Q3)        5th August, 1862, saw the birth of Joseph Merrick.   He’s occasionally been called John Merrick … but better known how?
A3)        The Elephant Man.   (David Lynch’s film version of Merrick’s life is one of the saddest thing’s I’ve ever seen.)

Q4)        5th August, 1964, saw the birth of the late Adam Yaunch.   He found fame as a member of which band: the Beastie Boys, the House of Pain or BTS … ?
A4)        The Beastie Boys.

Q5)        Finally … ?   Racer, Colin McRae, was born on 5th August, 1968.   What type of vehicle did he race: a car, a bike or a plane?
A5)        A car.
Here’s a thought …
“I think, in general, it’s clear that most bad things come from misunderstanding, and communication is generally the way to resolve misunderstandings — and the Web’s a form of communications — so it generally should be good.”
Tim Berners-Lee.
And a playlist …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Feel free to share today’s video Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        It’s sounds like you’ve got things in hand, then Olga!   Oh … if Sants3 are doing a quiz at that festival … ?   Popty Ping would possibly be inspiration!
I’ll tell you what, Olga, Jude’s getting tall!   (Trevor said “Hello,” so you know!)

Keep up, Trevor: I covered her, already …

‡        Hello, Mum … !

^        Isn’t it just, Debbi?   Oh, pointless trivia for you: le Carré worked for MI5 and MI6!

A5 Internet

Back in the early 1980’s my team and I created and ran a private network between multiple computers scattered all over the UK. We had small IBM 8100 range computers in broom cupboards in Tile works connected to the Title company head office in Reigate which it self was connected to Redland head office which was just up the road. Each remote 8100 had a minimum of 2 VDU’s and a printer all connected on the local loop.

I went to many tile works to help install the machines and software. Remember staying at an Italian owned hotel in Wigan when Installing at a works near-by. Great food especially Breakfast.

I can imagine! I'm not sure what they are planning to do this year for the festa major, but I'll keep your suggestion in mind. Oh, and say hi to Trevor as well. It's good to see you all around. (Here, the prices of electricity have skyrocketed. It's scary! I hope there are some good news on the job front soon).
