Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 14-9-2025 — Sam Neill (Ten Questions.)

14th September, 2025: Sam Neill.

Right …

It’s Sunday.

And … ?

I’m going to be working on a video, today!

Yep: my last review of a Star Trek: Star New Worlds episode — or, at least, of a third season episode — will be being worked on, today.

It has to be said, Anson Mount put in one hell of a performance … !

There’s a teacher in Southend called Jude Nzemeke: who teaches computer science to primary school children.

In a recent BBC News article, Mr Nzemeke has gone on the record to say he feels teaching computer games — or, at least, how to play computer games — would be a good way of interesting children in computer science.

Is he right … ?

I don’t know.

But playing a lot of Tetris could have made lessons fun … !

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Debbi† and Irene putting in their answers: with everyone scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Actor, Sam Neill, was born on 14th September.   In which year of the 1940s?

Q2)        He was born, where: Northern Ireland, New Zealand or South Africa?

Q3)        He played Ben Dawson.   In which Australian soap: Sons and Daughters, Neighbours or The Sullivans?

Q4)        Sam Neill played Dr Alan Grant in a 1993 movie.   Which 1993 movie: The Piano, Jurassic Park or In the Mouth of Madness?

Q5)        Neill played Richard Martin in Bicentennial Man.   Who played the Bicentennial Man, in Bicentennial Man?

Q6)        He narrated the 2005 documentary, Gallipoli.   The documentary is about a campaign that took place during what: World War One, World War Two or the Vietnam War?

Q7)        He played the villainous Damien Thorn in Omen III: The Final Conflict.   The film was released in which year of the 1980s?

Q8)        The Hunt for Red October saw Sam playing Vasily Borodin: the Red October’s First Officer.   Which former Bond played Marko Ramius, the sub’s Captain?

Q9)        He played Sidney Reilly in Reilly, Ace of Spies.   The real world Reilly was a spy for which country: the UK, the USA, France or Spain?

Q10)        Finally … ?   Sam Neill played Dr Weir in the 1997 film, Event Horizon.   Who played ship’s captain: Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne-Moss or Laurence Fishburne?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        13th September is the feast day of Saint John Chrysostom.   He’s a patron saint of what had been called what: Constantinople, Verulamium or Avenio?
A1)        Constantinople.   (The city is now Istanbul: and remarkably easy to sing about … )

Q2)        That city is now in which country: Turkey, the UK or France?
A2)        Turkey.

Q3)        13th September, 1898, saw Hannibal Goodwin granted the patent for film stock made from what: nitrocellulose, acetate or polyester?
A3)        Nitrocellulose.

Q4)        13th September, 1845, saw The Gardeners’ Chronicle announce a potato blight had hit which country of the (then) UK: England, Ireland, Scotland or Wales?
A4)        Ireland.   (At this point in history, the whole island of Ireland was part of the UK.   The central UK government’s mishandling of the Famine contributed to the rise of Irish nationalism: and the independence of what’s now the Republic of Ireland.)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Super Mario Brothers was first released on 13th September, 1985.   It’s what type of video game: a puzzle game, platformer or shoot-’em-up?
A5)        A platformer.   You have to jump from platform to platform, in other words.
Here’s an observation …
“I was christened Nigel.   It set me back for years.”
Sam Neill.
And an interview …

The next ten question set is on 21st September: it’s about the International Day of Peace.

Your comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        I can imagine, Olga: the html code that underpins Blogger post is equally odd, I think.   It’s certainly counter-intuitive, if you’re used to a human language!   There’s logic to it: just not the logic we’re used to!
A good time was definitely had, as well.   (It was nice that Connie, the regular chef at the local chip shop, was back on duty: her mother, Cath, who I’d not seen in years, had been covering for her, for a couple of months.)
I think fandango is one of those words: it’s a useful stand-in for anything else, even if the dance is nowhere to be seen … !

I’m surprised you’ve not seen the photo before now, Debbi: it’s been floating around for a while … !
I can see where you’re coming from, with The Italian Job
Did you ever hear “Embarrassment”?   Bit of a dark story, there.   It was written by Lee Thompson, the band’s sax player: and tells of his family’s reaction to his younger sister having a mixed race child.   There’s a happy ending to the story, it seems: the child has been welcomed, in the years since her birth.

Morning, Irene: how IS the day … ?

It is always worrying when somebody we know disappears for a while, but at least it was somebody known who took her place and she is back again.
