Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 22-10-2025 — Bankrobber

22nd October, 2025: Bankrobber.

Right … it’s official Wednesday morning … !

And, frankly?

I’m hoping the phone call I made — to a local food bank — will do any good.

Just as much as I’m hoping the application I put in, yesterday — for one of Southend Council’s prepaid debit cards — will go through.

The latter’s going to take a few weeks, I know that.

The food bank … ?

Is a different matter.

I’ll admit it: I’m overweight!

You’d possibly worked that out.

So, as a result of being overweight, I’m on a weight management course: so I can monitor how I’m doing.

And I’m on Mounjaro: partly to combat my type two diabetes, but also because the medication’s very effective at helping you lose weight.

I’ve also been on Ozempic/Wegovy and Trulicity.

Trulicity doesn’t seem as the other two named drugs: but that’s possibly a side issue.

The reason I mention this?

Is that I’ve seen the news that Novo Nordisk — the makers of Ozempic — have recently seen several members of their board hand in their resignations.

I don’t know what effects that will have.

I’m just hoping that won’t include supplies of both Ozempic and Mounjaro as a knock-on effect.

Here’s hoping …

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Mum*, Olga†, Irene‡ and Debbi§ putting in their answers: with Mum, Irene and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Olga on four.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Agents from the Bureau of Investigation shot Charles Floyd: on 22nd October. Of which year of the 1930s?

Q2)        Charles Floyd was better known as which bank robber: Pretty Boy Floyd, John Dillinger or Ma Barker?

Q3)        The Bureau of Investigation is now known as what: the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation or Pinkerton’s Detective Agency?

Q4)        The agents would’ve been nicknamed “G-men”.   The term is said to have been coined by whom: Charles Floyd, Machine Gun Kelly or Al Capone?

Q5)        Finally … ?   The agent that led the team who killed Floyd was Melvin Purvis.   Purvis was also involved in whose death: Machine Gun Kelly’s, Al Capone’s or John Dillinger’s?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        Dizzy Gillespie was born on 21st October.   Of which year: 1915, 1917 or 1919?
A1)        1917.

Q2)        He played a form of jazz.   Called what: Bebop, Cool jazz or Free jazz?
A2)        Bebop.

Q3)        In the 1940s, Gillespie worked with Charlie Parker.   Parker played what: upright bass, guitar or saxophone?
A3)        Saxophone.

Q4)        Gillespie played a famously bent what?
A4)        Bent trumpet.   (It wouldn’t be flat.   Be flat.   I give in …)

Q5)        Finally … ?   Gillespie has been described as the ‘sound of’ what: surprise, success or supper?
A5)        Surprise.
Here’s a thought …
“He was seen positively by the public because, during robberies, he burned mortgage documents, freeing many people from their debts.”
From the Wikipedia entry on Floyd.
And a Clash song … that’s currently earworming its way through my head …

The next ten question set is on 24th October: it’s about Zambia.

Your comments will be published, tomorrow morning.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Where possible, we avoid writing these questions with AI.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Hello, Mum!

That’s something I’ve noticed over the years, Olga: celebrity-owned stuff — shoes, suitcases, what-have-you — tend to fetch a premium.   They usually have to have some sort of documented history though.   (Guitars played by Pete Townsend are usually worth more if he’s wrecked them.)
Sorry about the score, by the way: but horns and trumpets are quite different.   The bore, the empty column of air that’s in the things, is a different shape.
Oh, I know ‘new’ ivory sales are banned: but I believe there’s still illegal sales happening.   How you stop those, I don’t know: but I imagine new pieces can be traced by DNA.

        Good morning, Irene: welcome back!

§        The handy thing, Debbi, is that you can (mostly) read the Discworld novels in any order you want: although it helps if you read the Witches, or Nightwatch, ones in some sort of order.   (I’m almost at the end of Night Watch, so you know!)
I read the Narnia books when I was younger: almost obsessively!   The Magician’s Nephew was a favourite: the series got a bit apocalyptic by The Silver Chair.
Did you know Lewis was an old friend of Tolkien?   The pair famously disagreed about religion: Lewis was an Belfast-born Anglican, Tolkien a devout Catholic: I think his faith shows up in The Silmarillion, if I’ve understood how the Catholic view of saints and angels works.

Q2) Pretty Boy Floyd

Q3) the Federal Bureau of Investigation

Q4) Machine Gun Kelly
Oh, don't worry about the horn thing. I saw it somewhere in the article about him and never checked any more. These days I always seem to be running around, although I don't seem to achieve too much.
Tomorrow afternoon I'm attending a session for carers, but this one is a bit different. I'll see if I learn something useful.
And I got a calle from the social services based at the doctor's surgery, and she suggested I ask for a revision of my mother's grade of dependency. She said it is always worth doing, because it might mean, if they increase it, that she would be eligible for more services.
I hope you hear from the food bank and everything else soon. The prices of everything keep going up and it is difficult to make the money last there days...

Q5) John Dillinger’s

I read that about them. They were friends, with religious differences.

The Narnia books really got into the whole Bibical thing, as I recall. :)

Of course, both series pit good against evil. In fantasy.
