Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 16th December 2025.

16th December, 2025.

That’s always a worry …

I’m diabetic: which you possibly already knew.

And, as such?

I have a blood sugar testing machine: and the testing strips, and lancets, that go with it.

And the associated sharps bin.

That bin … ?

Is something I have to ask Brentwood Council to dispose of: usually, through a website.

They usually phone me to tell me when the next pickup is, and I have to leave it out, the night before.

The worry?

Comes from the fact I’m convinced the collectors won’t turn up.

Or if one of the neighbours will complain: there’s one I’m convinced will!

Or that a neighbour’s dog will get into the bin, when it’s being walked.

The collectors got here at 06:39.

The neighbour hasn’t complained.

And, as far as I can tell, no dogs sniffed around my bucket.

That’s three less things to worry about …

~≈🪣≈~

Let’s move on.

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*,  Mum† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with Olga and Debbi scoring five out of five, and Mum on three.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video.

Q1)        Billy Gibbons was born on 16th December, 1949.   What was the name of the first band he was in: Moving Sidewalks, ZZTop or Billy Gibbons and the BFGs?

Q2)        Miranda Otto was born on 16th December, 1971.   She played which Lord of the Rings character: Galadriel, Éowyn or Lobelia Sackville-Baggins?

Q3)        16th December, 1955, saw the late Queen Elizabeth 2nd open what’s now called Terminal 2: of what was then called London Airport.   What’s that airport now called?

Q4)        16th December, 1977, saw the late Queen Elizabeth 2nd formally open a tube line.   To which London airport?

Q5)        Finally … ?   16th December is the feast day of Saint Adelaide of where: Italy, Australia or France?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1)        In the USA, 15th December is the Bill of Rights Day.   The Bill of Rights consists of the first ten amendments to the US what: the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independence or the Articles of Confederation?
A1)        The US Constitution.

Q2)        George Washington ordered how many copies of the Bill: thirteen, fourteen or fifteen?
A2)        Fourteen.   (One for Congress, and one for each of the then current US states.)

Q3)        Rhode Island was the last state to ratify one of the amendments in the bill: in which year of the 1990s?
A3)        1993.

Q4)        The amendment in question was the Second Amendment.   That amendment guaranteed what: the right to bear arms, the right to free speech or the right to a impartial jury?
A4)        The right to bear arms.

Q5)        Finally … ?   The Eighth Amendment forbids what: walking a pet dog, a jury trial for an amount over twenty dollars or cruel and unusual punishment?
Here’s a thought …
“In the presence of the computer, he found himself becoming stupid.”
From Vulcan’s Hammer, by Phillip K. Dick, 16 December 1928 – 2 March 1982.
A song sung by Billy Gibbons …

And an earworm …

The next ten question set is on 17th December, 2025: it’s about Ludwig van Beethoven.

Your comments, and today’s answers, will be published in tomorrow’s Teaser.

AI is avoided when writing these questions.

Answers are as accurate as possible: at the time of writing.

Decisions about scores are final.

Thank you for coming: have a good day.

*        Oh, I hate that when it happens, Olga§!   especially if I’m out, and can’t change my socks until I get in.
Yeah, the problem’s sorted.   The irony, though?   Is that I had the check-box ticked for several years: and only had an issue when this new update was installed.   Good grief!

Hello, Mum!   (It was fourteen copies and 1993, Mum, rather than 13 and 1991!)

You can possibly get some cheap, Debbi§: if it’s ever needed!   :D
I’m not going to end by tell you this … but did you see what the president said about The death of Rob Reiner?   That’s no way to speak of the dead … !
On a happier note … ?   Your mention is the first time I’ve heard of the film: but I believe Hammer used to make all sorts, before they worked out horror was where the money was.   (John Hurt was in one called The Ghoul, if memory serves.)
It looks like Morrell and Cushing weren’t the only familiar faces in Cash on Demand.   Richard ‘Slartibartfast’ Vernon was in it, and Kevin Stoney — Tobias Vaughan in The Invasion — crops up, as well.   (Stonrey’s in The Prisoner: he’s Number 6’s boss in “The Chimes of Big Ben”.   ‘No, he says?   Nyet!   Nyet!’)

§        Debbi, Olga, this might grab you both.   A woman called Blaise Metreweli has been appointed as C, as the first woman to head MI6.
She’s also the former MI6 Director General of Technology and Innovation: Q, in other words …

Wonderful about that woman! I straight away thought about Modesty Blaise. it's a busy day today, as I changed the date of Jordi's class due to the Marató and going to bed so late, and this afternoon I have to go to the radio to edit the item about what the local associations organised to collect money for the Marató as well (the charity event. So far they have collected in excess of 9 million euros, and there is time until the end of March for donations to come in).
I had to send you a note, because it has been raining heavily again overnight, and I normally walk to Jordi's (it's a 45 minutes walk, uphill in parts) so that I get some exercise in, and I carry a backpack with wheels, so I don't have to lift so much weight all the time. Well, apat from the rain it had been quite windy as well, so there were plenty of leaves on the way, and the wheels kept getting clogged with the leaves and the backpack wouldn't roll, no matter what, so I ended up having to carry it for big chunks of the way (so I did cardio and strength training in one). It reminded me of the usual derision when there were problems with the train line and cancellations due to rain and leaves on the railway line. Now, I appreciate what the problem might have been like...
