The Daily Teaser — 23-7-2013

Oh, now hang on … !   It’s official.

We’ve had thunderstorms … !

Which, it has to be said, went off at twenty to six in the morning … !

Still, I can’t complain too much.   It does mean things have cooled down a bit, which is nice: after all, yesterday was the hottest day of the year, thus far.

Which possibly has something to do with the new Prince of Cambridge’s arrival.

After all … I’d not be sticking around in a womb, in this weather … !

Let’s move on, shall we?

~≈†≈~

Yesterday’s teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: along with telling us she remembered Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens being kicked out out of the US, she also scored five out of five.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the ‘How To’, License and video …

Q1) 23rd July, 1840, saw the Act of Union which created the Province of Canada: name either of the provinces that the Province of Canada is now called.
Q2) 23rd July, 1961 saw the founding of the Sandinista National Liberation Front.   In which country … ?
Q3) 23rd July, 1970, saw Qaboos bin Said al Said, become Sultan of where … ?
Q4) 23rd July, 1913, saw the birth of English politician, Michæl Foot.   Which British political party did he lead … ?
Q5) Finally … 23rd July, 1962, saw the first transmission of trans-Atlantic TV pictures: by which satellite … ?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Named after General Moses Cleveland, 22nd July, 1796, saw the naming of which patch of Ohio … ?
A1) Cleveland.
Q2) 22nd July, 1797, saw the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife take place.   Which arm did Admiral Nelson have amputated as a result of this battle … ?
A2) His right arm.
Q3) 22nd July, 1983, saw the revocation of Martial Law: in which European country … ?
A3) Poland.
Q4) 22nd July, 1210, saw the birth of Joan of England: who (confusingly) was Queen Consort of where … ?
A4) Scotland.
Q5) Finally … 22nd July, 1793, saw Alexander MacKenzie and his team, become the first people to cross Canada: and reach which ocean … ?
A5) The Pacific.
I’ll leave you with this thought from the late Michæl Foot …
“The crisis afflicting this country, along with other countries of the Western world, is a crisis of capitalism. It is a crisis of the dominant economic system that prevails in all those countries.”
Michæl Foot, 23 July 1913 – 3 March 2010
And — given the day is Roxy Music’s Andy MacKay’s birthday — with this tune …

Enjoy the day … !

*        I’ll be honest, Debbi†, it still leaves me mildly annoyed: I mean, what kind of bureaucratic, ‘I Can’t Spell Yusuf’, idiotic jobsworth thought that was a good move … ?   Honestly … !   (Right, rant over … until someone else reminds me of it … !)

†         On  a more positive note … ?   One of my neighbours has just bought herself a 21” iMac: I spelt a bit of yesterday telling her other half where to get list of keyboard shortcuts, and how to use Migration Assistant …

Boy, it's hard to type with this splint on. Sorry I haven't been on Twitter or FB much lately. It's all I can do just to keep typing.

You're not blaming the prince for getting the thunder to herald his arrival?

Is it contentious or actionable to call political parties by names popularly used by hostile media?
