The Daily Teaser — 21-2-2015: Malcolm In The Middle

Did I tell you I know how to rip DVDs?

In other words, I can take a DVD or Blu-ray, and use various bits of software to transcode it into a form I can play on either my computer, iPod or AppleTV.

I use HandBrake on DVDs.   And a mix of HandBrake and MakeMKV on blu-rays.

For some reason … ?   Well, for some reason, using MakeMKV on blu-ray discs produces groups of video files that share the same name.

I believe that — because of the way the files are structured on a blu-ray disc, and on the experience I’ve had, thus far — that the metadata of such a group is collective metadata: and needs editing.

To avoid triggering mild annoyance in humble bloggers, if nothing else.

Thankfully?   Thankfully, I’ve found that using a metadata editor editor — in my particular case, MetaZ — can help, there.

Mostly by changing the names, to ones that are useful, can help.

Personally?   Personally, I’m thankful.

Especially as I can use MetaZ on the rest of my media library.

You have to love useable software, don’t you … ?

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 21st February saw the death of activist, Malcolm Little.   In which year?
Q2) How was Malcolm better known?
Q3) Malcolm was killed at the Audubon Ballroom.   The Ballroom is in which US city?
Q4) Malcolm was killed by members of the religious movement he belonged to.   Who were that group?
Q5) Finally … In the last years of his life, Malcolm undertook the formal pilgrimage to Mecca, required of all Muslims.   What name is given to this pilgrimage?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 20th February, 2013, saw the discovery of Kepler 37b: the (then) smallest what, discovered to date?
A1) Extra-solar planet.
Q2) The object orbits Kepler 37.   Kepler 37 is a star in which constellation: Draco, Lyra, Hercules, Vulpecula or Cygnus?
A2) Lyra.
Q3) 20th February, 2010, saw severe floods hit Madeira Island: in the Madeira archipelago.   The archipelago is part of which European country?
A3) Portugal.
Q4) 20th February, 1924, saw the birth of actress a20nd designer, Gloria Vanderbilt.   1976 saw her release a pair of designer what?
A4) Jeans.
Q5) 20th February, 1931, saw the US Congress approve the building of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge.  The ‘Bridge Trilogy’, about shady characters living around that bridge, was written by whom?
Q6) Finally … 20th February, 1988, saw the birth of singer, Rihanna.   Which Caribbean island was she born on?
A6) Barbados.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Any time you know you’re within the law, within your legal rights, within your moral rights, in accord with justice, then die for what you believe in.   But don’t die alone.   Let your dying be reciprocal.   This is what is meant by equality.   What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”
Malcolm.
And this tune: which should hand out a clue for at least one question …

Enjoy your Saturday.

*        You know, Debbi, I’m going to have to try and make more use of DuckDuckGo: I don’t know if making it the default will work with the version of Safari I use.

It's a nice search engine. Purportedly, it doesn't track you like Google.

1. 1965
2. Malcolm X
3. New York City
4. the Nation of Islam
5. the Hajj

Yes: I know.

I believe the Tor browser uses it as one of its default search engines, because of that.
