The Daily Teaser — 26-2-2015: All Jazzed Up

Oooh, but that’s better … !

Did I tell you I was working, on Tuesday?

I was: a fairly late shift, too.

And woke up, yesterday, feeling … well …

I think the best term is ‘Mildly ropey’: that’s the best way of putting it!

Well … mildly ropey, with a mild headache, all day.

Still … ?

I think I managed to help myself.   Simply by getting an early night.

Personally … ?   I’m feeling as spring as a spring lamb, bouncing around, bouncily, like a bouncy lamb.

Yes …

Quite … !

But let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 26th February saw the very first Jazz record, recorded: by the Original Dixieland Jass Band.   Which US city did they come from: New York, New Orleans or North Amityville?
Q2) One of the two songs on that single was called Livery Stable what?
Q3) The flip side was called the Original Dixieland …’ what: one-step, two-step or quick-step?
Q4) The company that recorded the record — the Victor Talking Machine Company — shared its logo, a dog listening to an old record player, with HMV in the UK.   What was the dog called: Nipper, Bonzo or Rosie?
Q5) Jazz is supposed to have originated in the area of New Orleans called Storyville.   Storyville was what: the New Orleans’ Docklands, red light area or financial district?
Q6) Which notably large-nosed comedian was one of the Original Dixieland Jass Band’s early fans?
Q7) The band also recorded a ragtime piece that’s since become a Jazz standard: and named for which stripy big cat?
Q8) Jazz also has roots in the marches held in New Orleans what: weddings, baptisms or funerals?
Q9) New Orleans was also the birthplace of jazzman, singer and trumpeter, Satchmo: better known, of course, as who?
Q10) Finally … which Miles Davis album is considered the best selling Jazz album of all time?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 25th February, 1870, saw Hiram Rhodes Revels become the first African American elected to the US Senate.   Which party did he represent?
Q2) More to the point, what State was he the Senator for?
Q3) 25th February, 1913, saw the birth of actor, Gert Fröbe.   Which James Bond villain did he play?
A3) Auric Goldfinger: in Goldfinger.
Q4) 25th February, 1947, saw the state of Prussia formally dissolved.   What was the Prussian capital city?
A4) Berlin.
Q5) 25th February, 1980, saw a military coup overthrow the government of Suriname.   Suriname is on which continent?
Q6) Finally … 25th February, 1873, saw the birth of Italian singer, Enrico Caruso.   Was Caruso a bass, baritone or tenor?
A6) Tenor.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“If you have to ask, you’ll never know.”

Louis Armstrong.
And this tune: another from the band’s back catalogue …

Enjoy your day.

*        Glad to hear it, Debbi†!

†        Oh, did I tell you I know how to rip DVDs and Blu-rays, Debbi: so I can watch them on an Apple TV?   I found an app — called MetaZ — that let’s me get my digital copies look rather good.   At least, my copies of The Prisoner look rather good.
