The Daily Teaser — 16-3-2015

Hmmm …

I’m assuming you follow the news from time to time?

I do.   And can’t help but notice that three young men — in their late teens — have been found: and sent back from Turkey.

After Turkish police detained them on their way to join IS, in Syria.

Personally … ?   It’s nice to know that at least some teens have been stopped.

However?   I’m going to be a little controversial, here.

I think we can’t let children go and fight for IS.   They are too young — I believe — to make a fully informed choice about this.

But I’ve healed the view, now that for adults — ADULTS — to go and fight in Syria — whether for IS, or with Kurdish forces — should be allowed to go.

I’ve only a half thought out rationale for this.   But, with the media storm around the actions of Jihadi John, and its apparent lionisation of volunteers fighting with Kurdish forces in the area … ?

And the fact George Orwell — possibly one of Britain’s best loved writers — fought in the Spanish Civil War?

I think we need to have a better balance of views of Brits fighting abroad.

But let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: and scoring six out of six.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 16th March, saw the first ever FA Cup final played: between Wanderers FC, and Royal Engineers FC.   Who won?
Q2) The game was played at what’s now which international cricket ground: the Oval, Lords, or Trent Bridge?
Q3) 16th March, 1244, saw the killing of Cathar heretics besieged at Montségur: in France.   The word Cathar meant what: Tall Ones, Pure Ones or Dead Ones?
Q4) 16th March, 37 AD, saw the death of the Roman Emperor, Tiberius.   What Roman dynasty did he belong to?
Q5) 16th March, 1912, saw Lawrence Oates say “I’m just going outside and may be some time.”   Oates was just one member of R. F. Scotts expedition to where?
Q6) Finally … 16th March, 1953, saw Marshal Tito become the first Communist head of state to make a state visit to the UK.   Which — now gone — country was Tito ruler of?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 15th March, 1892, saw the founding of Liverpool football club.   What colour is Liverpool’s home kit: red, blue or white?
A1) Red.

Q6) Finally … 15th March, 1974, saw John Poulson jailed: on corruption charges.   Was he a doctor, an architect or an accountant?
A6) An architect.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“If you want to accomplish something in the world, idealism is not enough--you need to choose a method that works to achieve the goal. In other words, you need to be pragmatic.”

Richard Stallman, born March 16, 1953.
And this song …

Have a good day …
