The Daily Teaser — 19-3-2015: Mars Needs Women … !

Do you read the Brentwood Gazette, at all … ?

Then you’ll know I write a weekly brain teaser for them.

And … ?   Well I mentioned in yesterday’s weekly Teaser — all about the Tolpuddle Maryrs — that I was looking out for a new phone.

Well … I managed to have a look in my carrier’s local shop: in Brentwood High Street.

As you can imagine?   FRANKLY, I’d prefer an iPhone: you’d possibly guessed, hadn’t you?

But right at the moment … ?

Right at the moment, I’ll be happy to get whatever cheap Android phone’s going.   So long as I can Tweet from the thing … !

But let’s get a move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* putting in her answers: AND scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how she — and you — do with today’s Martian questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video

Q1) 19th March saw the Mars Odyssey probe start photographing Mars.   How exactly: by thermal imaging, with a visible light camera or by gamma ray spectrography?
Q2) The imaging started in which year of this century: 2002, 2007 or 2012?
Q3) In which year was the probe launched?
Q4) Roughly how long is a Martian year: 676 days, 686 days or 696 days?
Q5) What name have scientists given to one Martian day: a day, sol or mon?
Q6) One system used by planetary scientists starts the Martian calendar on 11th April of which year of the 1950s?
Q7) Mars has what’s either the largest or second largest mountain in the solar  system, depending on how it’s measured.   What’s that mountain called?
Q8) Mars’ atmosphere is 96% what: nitrogen, oxygen or carbon dioxide?
Q9) Mars is also known as what: the red planet, white planet or blue planet?
Q10) Finally … name either of Mars’ moons.
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 18th March, 1982, saw the Attorney General of the UK — Sir Michael Havers — end Mary Whitehouse’s case against director, Michael Bogdanov, and the National Theatre.   Over a play called Romans in where?
A1) Romans in Britain.
Q2) 18th March, 1965, saw Major General Alexay Leonov make the world’s first spacewalk.   What’s the technical phrase for a spacewalk?
A2) Extra-vehicular activity.   (Sex in space is extracurricular activity.   According to the Wikipedia article, sex in space is perfectly doable.   Who on — or off — Earth wrote THAT one … ?)
Q3) 18th March, 1985, saw the broadcast of which Australian soap: Sons and Daughters, Home and Away or Neighbours?
Q4) 18th March, 1869, saw the birth of Neville Chamberlain, former British Prime Minister.   Which party was he leader of?
Q5) Finally … 18th March, 1909, saw the birth of winemaker, Ernest Gallo.   The Gallo family wine business is based in which US state?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Ladies and gentlemen, I have a grave announcement to make. Incredible as it may seem, strange beings who landed in New Jersey tonight are the vanguard of an invading army from Mars.”

Orson Welles, in his version of War of the Worlds.
And this tune …

Have a good day.

*        My pleasure, Debbi!   (Did I tell you I’m looking at getting a new phone … ?   I’d LOVE an iPhone — one of my sisters has the new iPhone 6 — but I’m going to go with whatever can Tweet†!)

†        Basically, I used to be able to send Tweets through SMS message.   Until O2 stopped it, in January.   BLOODY annoying, that … !
