The Daily Teaser — 2-8-2015

Now that’s given the me rampaging hump.

If you’ll excuse the phrase.

I have to confess to working, yesterday.   Which was a long, but generally ok, day.

The one BIG problem I had … ?

Was as I was due to clock off: I managed to serve one last customer.   It was a busy night, and I didn’t want to go, without trying to help get the queue cleared.

The till jammed on me!   At least, it froze.

With the result the customer’s order was wrong.   Not badly, but wrong.   As the screen that passed on the orders to the kitchen staff, and to the packers — who assemble, plate or bag the order as required — were seriously off.

The customer was pretty forgiving about things, as she’d seen what was happening as the till jammed.

The one big problem came, as I clocked off.

My till was some twenty pounds down!   I was not a happy bunny, understandably.   I pride myself on not making many mistakes: being able to take the blame, if I’ve made a mistake, and make good for it, as needed.

This … ?   Having a £20 shortfall in my till was unexpected: and roughly the cost of that customer’s order.

I can’t help but think I’ve gone wrong: and not taken the cash in the process.   AND could’ve saved some trouble by voiding off the order, and re-starting the whole thing from scratch.

That leave a bad taste in the mouth: but could well have saved me some trouble!

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Debbi* and Olga† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video …

Q1) 2nd August, 1939, saw Albert Einstein and Leo Szilard write to the President of the USA: urging him to build an atomic bomb.   Which President?
Q2) More to the point, the World War 2 project this kickstarted was called what?
Q3) 2nd August, 1984, saw the European Court of Human Rights issue a ruling against what: closed circuit TV surveillance, phone tapping or satellite photography?
Q4) During the Meiji Restoration, 2nd August, 1869, saw Japan abolish the Shinokosho system.   Was that Japan’s Shogunate, class system or tax system?
Q5) 2nd August, 1610, saw Henry Hudson reach what’s now called Hudson Bay.   He thought he’d discovered the Northwest Passage: to which ocean?
Q6) Finally … 2nd August, 1892, saw the birth of film producer, Jack Warner.   He, and his brother, Sam Warner, founded which Hollywood studio?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) Which F1 driver was hospitalised after a crash: on 1st August, 1976?
Q2) An uprising started, during World War 2, against Nazi occupation: on 1st August, 1944.   In which European city?
A2) Warsaw.
Q3) Vigdís Finnbogadóttir was elected as the world’s first democratically elected, female head of state: on 1st August, 1980.   She was president of which country?
A3) Iceland.   (Sirimavo Bandaranaike, Indira Gandhi and Margaret Thatcher don’t count as democratically elected heads of state: as female Prime Ministers of their respective countries, they were heads of Government.)
Q4) 1st August, 1960, saw Islamabad named as its country’s federal capital.   WHICH country?
A4) Pakistan.
Q5) Finally … 1st August, 1291, saw the signing of the Federal Charter of 1291.   The Charter saw the founding of the Old Swiss Confederacy.   What do we now call the Confederacy?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“Interviewing is doing what comes naturally.”

Alan Whicker, 2 August 1921 – 12 July 2013.
And this tune: as it ’s Cortex member, Freddie Wadling’s, birthday …

Enjoy your day …

*        Oh, tell me about it, Debbi!   Money’s extremely tight: unless you’re Jeff Bezos!   Oh, and I’ll be looking forward to Wednesday: I’ll be interested to see what tune it is.   Talking of tunes … ?   I THINK Bernard Cribbins always helps …

†        I think I might have missed you in the rush, Olga!   And, yes, I know what you mean: I’m more a snooker fan, than one for motor racing.   Rush certainly has some appeal, though.   Well, Natalie Dormer’s in it, and I’ve been keeping my eyes open for her, ever since I saw her in The Fades, a few years back.   (And, yep … Odd … !)

Sorry about the problem with the money at work. I guess if you weren't so conscientious it wouldn't bother you so much.
Loved Bernard Cribbins's song. It's one of a few songs that I can hear forever and they always make me smile. And of course it's right. In the UK everything is solved with a cup of tea.

Personally, Olga … ?

I’m just grateful for to my mum.

She’s managed to pick me up a new kettle.

Blow the cans of diet coke I’ve been all all summer: sometimes, you just HAVE to have a cuppa … !
