The Daily Teaser — 4-12-2015: The Dandy

Right …

I managed to picked up the Brentwood Gazette, yesterday: a day later than usual.

And … ?   It seems there’s more problems with any potential plans to build a cinema in town.

Apparently?

A supermarket that’s looking at taking out a tenancy on the site is kicking off about the lack — or excess — of parking!

On top of that … ?

The patch of ground around the corner from me — that I’ve always spoken against, as I feel further development would impede emergency vehicle access — has no had planning permissions given: for more flats.

The fact the flat opposite mine was raided by the police, last night … ?

Is practically incidental.

But let’s get moving on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw both Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring ten out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How ToLicense and video

Q1) The first issue of The Dandy was released on 4th December.   Of which year of the 1930s?
Q2) Who published The Dandy: IPC Media, DC Thomson or Harrier?
Q3) Craig Graham, Albert Barnes and Morris Heggie all served as The Dandy’s what?
Q4) The first of The Dandy’s annuals was released in which year of the 1930s?
Q5) 1963 saw the first Dandy Summer Special released.   The Special was a joint release: with which other comic?
Q6) Which rather feline character was one of The Dandy’s most popular?
Q7) The Dandy’s best known character was a cowboy called Desperate … what?
Q8) More to the point, that character’s favourite food is what sort of pie?
Q9) Which rock band took its name from a robot maid in The Dandy?
Q10) Finally … The Dandy is set in which very fictional town?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …
Q1) 3rd December saw the release of the first Laurel and Hardy film: in which year of the 1920s?
A1) 1927.
Q2) The film was called Putting Pants on whom: Phillip, Phyllis or Fred?
A2) Phillip.
Q3) The whom concerned, needed pants — or trousers, for those of us who aren’t American — as he was constantly wearing what: a skirt, a sarong or a kilt?
A3) A kilt.   (The earliest known ones have been dated to the 1600s: the modern ‘walking’ kilt was designed by a Quaker from Lancashire.)
Q4) Putting Pants was the first time Laurel and Hardy were credited as a team.   They first worked together on The Lucky Dog, when: 1920, 1921 or 1922?
A4) 1921.
Q5) Was Putting Pants a silent film?
A5) Yes.
Q6) Unaccustomed As We Are was one of the pair’s early talkies. When was it released: 1927, 1929 or 1931?
A6) 1929.
Q7) Their first feature film was released in 1931.   What was it called: Excuse Us, Pardon Us or Pardon Me?
A7) Pardon Us’.   (I’m not counting two earlier features — ‘The Hollywood Revue of 1929’ and ‘The Rogue Song’ — as the pair weren’t the headlining stars of the films.)
Q8) Laurel and Hardy’s fan club takes its name from what’s arguably their best film.   The film’s called The Sons Of The … what?
A8) The Sons Of The Desert.   (The club, itself, has some 150 chapters.)
Q9) Which of the pair was English: Stan Laurel or Oliver Hardy?
A9) Stan Laurel: the skinny one.
Q10) Finally … the other half of the pair was from which US state?
A10) Georgia.
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“The only time things would change would be when one of our older artists retired and we so would need to change artists.”Morris Heggie.
And this song …

Enjoy your day.

*        I have to admit, Olga, I’m nervous about checking my usage monitor: I’d HATE to what it’s saying … !   At ANY rate … ?   I’m on O2: Brentwood’s got enough free wi-fi for me to make use of, and they free texts I get are … well, the word ‘lots’ comes to mind!

†        Oh, I’ve left you a comment, Debbi: I got to see the video.   :D   (Oh, did I mention Wallace Sonky?   He was one of the Disc’s most important figures … )
