Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 11-2-2017: Turning Japanese

Drat.

At least, I THINK it’s drat.

It’s cold, this morning.

You’ve possibly realised that, if you’re in south-east England.

Right now?

Right now, here in Brentwood?

It’s been making a desperate effort to show … !

I’m not worried.   I’m planning to run up and down Brentwood High Street, in a mankini.

Yeah …

You’re convinced, aren’t you … ?

~≈§≈~

Oh …

Did I ALSO tell you I’ve taken a punt?

A bet, in other words?

I’ve sent a Valentine’s Day card.

Frankly?

I’m fully expecting to get a slap in the face!

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Debbi* and Olga† putting in their answers: with Debbi scoring five out of five, and Olga scoring zero.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s themed questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 11th February is Japan’s traditional foundation date.   In which year: 660BC, 663 or 666?
Q2) It was founded by Emperor whom?
Q3) Who’s the current Emperor?
Q4) The country’s flag is a white rectangle with a red circle on it.   The circle is said to represent the … what?
Q5) What’s the capital city of Japan?
Q6) Name any one of Japan’s four main islands …
Q7) What’s Japan’s currency?
Q8) The country’s equivalent to Parliament is the National … what?
Q9) Japan’s main staple food is what: bread, rice or the potato?
Q10) Finally … What’s the language of Japan?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) Glenn Miller was awarded the world’s first Gold record, on 10th February, 1942.   For selling how many copies: one hundred thousand, one million or ten million?
A1) One million.
Q2) Towards the end of the Catalonia Offensive, and during the Spanish Civil War, 10th February, 1939, saw Franco’s Nationalists close the border with which country: France, Germany or Portugal?
A2) France.
Q3) 10th February, 1861, saw Jefferson Davies named as President of the Confederate States of America.   Name either of the CSA’s capital cities.
A3) Montgomery,  Alabama or Richmond, Virginia.
Q4) Iridium 33 and Kosmos 2251, collided in orbit: on 10th February, 2009.   What were they?
Q5) Finally … 10th February, 1906, saw the birth of actor, Lon Chaney, Jr.   In which film did he play Lennie Small?
I’ll leave you with this thought …
“When poisoned, one might as well swallow the plate.”
Japanese proverb.
And this tune …

Have a good day!

*        It’s a heck of a tree, Debbi!   I mean, scaffolding!   Only in the UK.   (The US seems to make a habit of drive-through trees … )

†        You’re not wrong about things being out of sync, Olga … !   Looks like someone missed copying the answers … !   (Oh, I’ve picked up a blu-ray copy of The Cabinet of Dr Caligari: I was happy with the aspect ratio of the DVD version I ripped, and think this would make a better source.)

I give up. I got all the answers right and even mentioned two of my mother's uncles who escaped from Spain during the civil war and died, one tortured in France and one in Mauthausen. Perhaps I should go into hibernation, because evidently either I can't coordinate my fingers or your blog doesn't like me (I've always had a better relationship with Wordpress, to be honest). Here it has been snowing on and off for the last two days, although not enough to accumulate much. I'm going to be away from Tuesday for a couple of weeks. I should leave it until I come back see if there's any improvement.
