Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 4-2-2017

Oh!

I found out, last night, that the woman that lives next door, and who’s been living in the same flats as me for almost a decade, is moving.

She’ll be moving on to a new place in a few weeks time.

OK, there’s been times we’ve violently disagreed.

But I’m saddened a friend and neighbour is moving away: whilst pleased she’s found somewhere new.

Of course, the other side to this?

The other side to this?

The other side to this … is who on Earth will be moving in.

Social housing can be a bit of a mixed bag.

Most of the neighbours are fine.

Some … ?

Have been nightmares.

I just hope we don’t get the latter.

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring ten out of ten.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) The first radioactive metal to synthesized — man made, in other words — was made on 4th February, 1936.   What metal was it?
Q2) 4th February, 1998, saw an earthquake hit where: Afghanistan, China or Denmark?
Q3) Ceylon became independent of the UK: on 4th February, 1948.   Now called Sri Lanka, what’s the country’s administrative capital?
Q4) Who was named as US President: on 4th February, 1789?
Q5) Finally … the Codex Sinaiticus was discovered in Egypt: on 4th February, 1859.   The book is a version of what: the Koran, the Bible or the Talmud?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 3rd February saw the plane crash that killed three famous US musicians: known as the Day The Music Died.   The crash was on the 3rd February of which year: 1958, 1959 or 1960?
A1) 1959.
Q2) The crash took place in which US State: Illinois, Texas or Iowa?
A2) Iowa: near Lake Clear.

A3) The Big Bopper.   (Little Willie is a song by The Sweet: Medium Dave Lilywhite is a minor character in Terry Pratchett’s Hogfather.)
Q4) Richardson’s best loved song, Chantilly Lace is a phone call between him and his girlfriend. It opens with the words Hello … what: baby, dolly, or sweetie?
A4) Baby.   (Hello Dolly is a noted musical.   Dr Who fans will recognize Hello Sweetie as one of the catchphrases of River Song.)
Q5) The youngest star to die on that plane was Ritchie Valens.   How old was Valens, when he died: 16, 17 or 18?
A5) 17.

I’ll leave you with this thought …

“I did not get on the bus to get arrested. I got on the bus to go home.”
Rosa Parks, February 4, 1913 – October 24, 2005.

And this song …

And, given a tenuous connection to yesterday’s Teaser?   This …

Have a good day … !

*        What always struck me, Olga?   Is quite how young the three stars were!   Richie Valens, god rest his soul, was seventeen.   Seventeen!   That’s way too young, in anyone’s book!   (Good lord, the Big Bopper wrote Running Bear … !)

†        Oh, lord, yes!   Mind you, that’s David Lynch for you.   I’m just pleasantly surprised his version of Dune didn’t get too strange!   Did you ever see Jennifer Lynch’s Chained?   I think she got a few things from Dad!

Q1) Technetium (I think it’s this one but I’ve found different dates, even some that claim it was in 1937)
Q2) Afghanistan
Q3) Sri Jayawardenepura Kotte
Q4) George Washington
Q5) The Bible (I’ve recently finished reading a book called The Devil’s Prayer, where the Codex Gigas plays a big part. I don’t remember having heard about it but it’s a fascinating story… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Gigas

Yes, far too young. I have several collections of songs from the era, and although the quality isn't always fabulous they're such a joy! I must check Lynch's daughter. Perhaps it will become the era of the daughters of famous directors (I quite like Sofia Coppola, I must say, and thankfully she's much better behind a camera than in front of one).
Good luck with the neighbours. The neighbours in the next house have put their house on sale, so yes, here we're also wondering. Although I don't know if I'll stay here very long, they always kept an eye on my place when I wasn't here and that always helps.
