Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 6-3-2017

I seem to recall, a few years ago, that Peter Capaldi was announced as the man who’d be playing the 12th Doctor.

Fascinating to see: the series has been quite something to watch, too.

VERY Phillip Hincliffe, I’ve felt.

But also something that had presentiments.

As, a few weeks beforehand?

Bookies announced they were suspending betting on Capaldi being cast in the role.

Which wasn’t a bad move, as it turned out: it meant they keep their loses down.

The reason I mention it?

Is that history is — possibly — repeating itself.

As at least one bookie has has suspended betting on Kris Marshall.

Does that mean he’s a shoo-in?

I really couldn’t tell you.

But it will be interesting to see who get’s named …

After all, going by his IMDb page?

He’s the right height …

But let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) 6th March, 1991, saw researchers discover the Michelangelo computer virus.   Researchers in which country?
Q2) The Herald of Free Enterprise capsized on 6th March, 1987.   The ferry was just outside which Belgian port?
Q3) 6th March, 1340, saw the birth of John of Gaunt.   John was a major figure in which English dynasty: the House of Gaunt, Tudor or Plantagenet?
Q4) 6th March, 1882, saw the kingdom of Serbia proclaimed.   What is modern day Serbia: a kingdom, a theocracy or a republic?
Q5) Finally … 6th March, 1902, saw the founding of which football club: Real Madrid, Manchester United or Bayern Munich?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 5th March, 1872, saw George Westinghouse patent what: pneumatic tyres, air brakes or windscreen wipers?
A1) Air brakes.
Q2) Winston Churchill coined the term ‘Iron Curtain,’ when giving a speech: on 5th March, 1946.   The speech was in which US state: Missouri, Mississippi or Michigan?
A2) Missouri.
Q3) The Landsat 3 probe was launched: on 5th March, 1978.   Which planet did it photograph?
A3) Earth.
Q4) 5th March, 1936, saw the first flight of which iconic British fighter plane?
A4) The Submarine Spitfire.
Q5) Finally … What British computer was released: on 5th March, 1981?
A5) The ZX81.   (It, and the ZX Spectrum, help launched home computing in the UK.)
I’ll leave you with a observation from Frankie Howerd …
“Very clever, all those boys are, very clever boys. I think they should turn professional. They tell me now they’ve learned to put on make-up. Soon they’re going to use it on the stage!”
Frankie Howerd, 6 March 1917 – 19 April 1992.
And this tune …

Have a good day …

*        You know, Olga, now is possibly the time to do your own work out video!   That’s assuming you’ve not in a heap, somewhere!   (And thank you for the good wishes.   The day went quietly, but well.)

†        Actually, I had the ZX Spectrum, Trevor: heck of an improvement.   It had a whole 48K of RAM!   Did you ever play Mazogs?   It’s STILL out there.   Happy premature birthday: JUST in case I miss it!

‡        That it is, Debbi. I’m just going to see how an experimental rip works with my AppleTV: I want to see how well Handbrake’s new settings handles turning Power of the Daleks.

Q1) Australia (strange. The article I was reading said it was discovered in February 1991 but started affecting computers in 92…)
Q2) Zeebrugge
Q3) Plantagenet
Q4) A Republic
Q5) Real Madrid
You might laugh at this, but I've thought about it, although I think I'd need a proper camera and a good editing software (and some space. I think my kitchen is a bit limited, but I've seen some very interesting locations. I could always use the garden in the summer...)

Very cool. I'm thinking of trying my hand (or voice, I guess) at audiobook narration! :) Imagine the possibilities. So many books, so little time! :)

1. Australia
2. Port of Zeebrugge
3. House of Plantagenet
4. a republic
5. Real Madrid

BTW, I included a David Bowie song in my Simply Living blog for this week. It seemed to fit.

When the Daleks lift their weapons, boy, does that look like a Nazi salute or what?
