Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 18th February, 2018

18th February, 2018.

Well, yes: it’s going to be interesting!

For starters?

My birthday present turns up early.

Which means I’m going to have some über-geeky fun, setting the thing up …

It’ll possible take a while.

But I’m re-assured that I can at least migrate stuff over from my Time Machine backup drive.

Hopefully?

I’ll ALSO be able to transfer the two spare internal drives.

I’d HATE to lose my media library, after all!

~≈§≈~

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga*, Trevor† and Debbi‡ putting in their answers: with all three scoring five out of five.

Let’s see how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video

Q1) In the Gregorian calendar, 18th February is the 49th day of the year.   What’s the square root of 49?
Q2) 18th February, 675 saw the death of Saint Colmán of Lindisfarne.   Lindisfarne is of the north-east coast of England: and also know as what Island: Holy Island, Monk’s Island or Abbot’s Island?
Q3) Fox hunting was banned in the UK: on 18th February, 2005.   Fox hunting was traditionally done on horse-back: and with what?
Q4) 18th February, 1980, saw the birth of Kazakh-Canadian sportsman, Nik Antropov.   He plays what: field hockey, ice hockey or bandy?   (Ok, you say ‘Kazakh-Canadian’)
Q5) Finally … 18th February, 2017, saw the death of activist, Norma McCorvey.   She’d been the plaintiff in the court case that saw the US — effectively — legalize what: cannabis use, video piracy or abortion?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 17th February, 1977, marks the death of Father Janani Luwum: archbishop of the Church of Uganda.   Many believe his death to be a murder: a murder ordered by whom?
A1) Idi Amin.
Q2) 17th February, 1979, saw China invade where?
A2) Vietnam.
Q3) 17th February is the feast day of Saint Constabilis.   He’s patron saint of the town of Castellabate.   And of who else: tinkers, tailors, soldiers or sailors?
A3) Sailors.
Q4) 17th February, 1838, saw Voortrekkers in South Africa, massacred: by the forces from which tribe?
A4) The Zulus.
Q5) Finally … Myles Standish was named as the military commander of Plymouth Colony: on 17th February, 1621.   Plymouth Colony is in what’s now which US state?
A5) Massachusetts.
Here’s a thought …
“It’s an interesting question – whether you’ve contributed more to the vast store of human enjoyment by doing comedy or by being a doctor, but the answer for me is that I don’t think I would have been as successful or as happy being a doctor.”
Graeme Garden, born 18th February, 1943.
And a tune …

Interesting piano riff, there.

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I won’t bore you with ALL the details, Olga: but I’m hoping it’ll go well.   Oh … about the three monitor situation … ?   Boy, I’m glad I got the Thunderbolt cables …

†        You know, Trevor: it strikes me Nottingham Council must have one hell of a legacy code problem.   I’m thinking about why so many episodes of Dr Who got re-used: as you know, the BBC would wipe video tape that had ‘unimportant’ stuff on it, and re-use the tape.   Sounds like there’s a lot of code — and council records — that have gone the same way!

‡        Oh, the film business is hysterical, Debbi!   Out SIDE of blooper reels … ?   You have to wonder

Q1) 7
Q2) Holy Island
Q3) dogs
Q4) ice-hockey
Q5) Abortion (she sounds like a true mess, to be honest, but I guess we’re still talking about her).

It's good to know that it's not only the doors in my house and car that misbehave! All the best and enjoy the setting up!

It's a weird business, for sure. As weird as publishing, in its own way! :)

3. foxhounds or other scent hounds
4. ice hockey
5. abortion

I wrote about Abe Lincoln's contribution to blogging on my renewed Random & Sundry Things blog. Yesh, it's tongue-in-cheek!

Seems I can't stop myself from blogging stuff! :)

I also met three of my favorite bloggers because of Random & Sundry Things. The original! :)
