Nik Nak’s Daily Teaser — 5th February, 2018

5th February, 2018.

No, really, it’s true.

I’ve actually managed to see the Denis Villeneuve directed, Blade Runner 2049.

Last night, so you know.

Frankly, and for all it’s glorious imagery?

It’s just a bit too long: by about forty-five minutes.

There’s more: it occurred to me, while I was in bed — after I’d written my post, wouldn’t you know it? — that the focus of the plot was wrong.

It focuses on K — Ryan Gosling — in his attempt to find the impossible child of a replicant, in a quest to find his own identity.

When maybe it should have focused on Niander Wallace’s (Jared Leto) search for the same child.

Two hours and forty five minutes of Ryan Gosling wandering around looking bloody miserable …

Could’ve had a lot more plot.

And a lot more villain.

Just as an extra thought: I’ve got the radio on: as ever.

Set to Radio 4’s Today programme.

Who’ve just announced there’s snow warnings for the southeast: something I’ve double checked with my weather app.

It’s true, there’s warnings.

I’ve looked out of the window.

It’s looking bleak …

Let’s move on, shall we?

Yes, let’s …

Yesterday’s Teaser saw Olga* and Debbi† putting in their answers: with both scoring five out of five.

Let‘s how everyone does with today’s questions, shall we?

Here they are, along with the How To, License and video …

Q1) Moldavia and Wallachia unified on 5th February, 1859: as what was then called the United Principalities.   Those Principalities were the core or what’s now which European country?
Q2) Laker Airways went bust: on 5th February, 1982.   Owing how much: £270 million, £370 million or £470 million?
Q3) 5th February, 1953: rationing of what ended in the UK?
Q4) 5th February, 2017, saw Superbowl 51 won by the New England Patriots.   The Bowl was the first to go to what: extra-time, a draw or the moon?
Q5) Finally … which country adopted its current constitution on 5th February, 1917?
Here’s yesterday’s questions and answers …

Q1) 4th February, 1789, saw who sworn in as the 1st President of the USA?
Q2) 4th February, 1801, saw John Marshall sworn as US what: President, Chief Justice or Secretary of State?
Q3) 46 ronin committed suicide on 4th February, 1703: in what’s called the Akō incident.   Those ronin were a lordless type of which Japanese warrior?
A3) Samurai.   (You can read more about the incident, here.)
Q4) 4th February, 1895, saw the birth of actor, Nigel Bruce.   He played Dr Watson opposite whom, as Sherlock?
Q5) Finally … 4th February, 1968, saw ninety-six Asian people arrive in Britain.   After fleeing from where: Kenya, South Africa or Lesotho?
A5) Kenya.
Here’s a thought …
“The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.”
Nolan Bushnell, born February 5, 1943.
Here’s a song …

Today’s questions will be answered in tomorrow’s Teaser.

Have a good day.

*        I keep thinking of a Terry Pratchett character called Susan Sto Helit, Olga, when someone mentions monsters.   The character’s a governess: a combination of private tutor and babysitter.   Whenever her charges tell her about the bogeymen under the bed … ?   She grabs the suspiciously bent poker and … has words.   Mind you, it helps she Death’s granddaughter, and most bogeys are scared of her …

†        That seems a shame, somehow, Debbi: but I’d imagine, in your shoes, I’d’ve looked at everything, too!   (Bizarrely?   I’m thinking of a heavily dyslexic ex-girlfriend, at this point: one who was just as knowledgeable about her condition.   Apparently, dyslexia covers a range of related neurological faults that produce the same result.)

Q3) Sweets
Q4) Extra-time

I hope the weather doesn't get too bad. Here it has been snowing bits all morning but not heavily. I'm going to go to the shops before it gets worse, as the forecast for the rest of the week doesn't look too good either.

The brain is so complicated. They're still trying to understand it.

1. Romania
2. 270 million pounds
3. sweets or candy (I assume)
4. extra-time or overtime
5. Mexico

"Two hours and forty five minutes of Ryan Gosling wandering around looking bloody miserable … " I'll pass! :)
